Completely disagree. Adams has a great footy brain, reads the play to perfection and will only improve. Not to say he will or should play half back every week but he's a really good option to throw down there at times.

I don't get the Crisp across half back thing. He's shown a good knack to kick a goal, mostly last season. Plus he's a very good inside player, I'd leave him where he plays his best footy.

I hadn't thought of the goal kicking bit with Crisp it's an interesting counterpoint. I've not seen that from him this year at all though. One thing I'll say is that I've always found that Crisp underutilises his speed which is a shame when we play him as an inside mid because he doesn't have great breakaway speed, more of a good top speed he can use in space which is also more suited to a half back rebounder. And it's not like we have many great kicks in the back so his bullet passes would be welcome there.

With Adams he's improving but I wouldn't go as far as calling him a near perfect reader of the play. He does still take time to make a decision and often goes to a harder option than he should. Against Essendon we had plenty of time to make a decision so it didn't show, but I believe it will against better team.

At some point we will have to realise with 90 rotations per game we can't play 10 inside mids in the team and hope to get as much benefit out of rotations as we used to in 10-11 (Pendles Treloar Adams Greenwood De Goey Sidebottom crisp Swan is already so heavy in rotation for the core midfield group), so to build versatility I'm simply saying Crisp is better suited for more time at half back than Pendles or Adams.

Could be used to describe Adams.

It's staggering if you can't see a noticeable improvement in Tays kicking this season.
I think you've misunderstood me. I initially commented that I didn't see the need for jubilation over his skill by foot. That might have been a poor choice of word, but Monday was the only time this season that his skills have looked noticeably better and even then he still made mistakes plus it was the lowest pressure match we'll be involved in all year.

I also acknowledged that he has improved, but it's akin to the improvement we've seen in Williams' kicking aka it's gone from slightly above poor to a little better than below average. In other words he's gotten rid of the howlers, but is far from a "safe" user of the ball.

Definitely option 1! I want players taking the game on I think it's more about who's doing it and execution that concerns me.

Good points. Adapting to the 90 rotations cap and who can fill what alternate roles will take time, especially with such a youthful midfield group. I think we'll get a few surprises over coming weeks as players are trialled in various roles. Some, like Adams at HB Monday will work (even if only on that 1 occasion), some won't.

Back on Adams and his use of the footy, think there has been noticeable improvement and I think there is still capacity for more. Has just clocked into that 50-100 games bracket and already you see improved poise and confidence to take the game on. Won't peak till he's getting toward 25ish and 100 games plus.

We then also have examples where he was used as the outlet and under no pressure either kicked to a contest or direct to the opposition as he did on more than one occasion on Monday.

I'm certain that he's improved overall as he's developed greater consistency in his game and improved his transition running, but skill by foot isn't an area he's improved to a level of note, IMO.

Personally I'd equate his skill improvement to the development we've seen in Williams' kicking.

Give me the time stamps for these errors and I'll check for myself. No offence.

No sweat. Whilst we're at it I'm sure you won't mind providing the time stamps of his perfectly executed delivery by foot whilst under immense pressure considering it has illicited such a positive response from our BF brethren?

Considering I'll only be searching for the miskicks. No offence of course.

I'm not the one making the big claims, that's what you're doing. The burden of proof is on you to substantiate your claims, not on me since I haven't concocted any ridiculous theories about his perfect disposal.

Here's your claim:

"We then also have examples where he was used as the outlet and under no pressure either kicked to a contest or direct to the opposition as he did on more than one occasion on Monday."

We'll see how true that is or if it's an impressionistic remembrance by you.

Wow, just reading back over this thread, and the response here to what Adams did over his first two seasons compared to Toumpas...

There's some genuinely funny stuff in this thread, dotted around the genuine concern over his disposal in year 1 with us :drunk:
To be honest, I found it just as funny then as I do now...

Great performance on Anzac Day. Good start here. Have we finally found the leader we need back there to have the backline organised and keep opposition to low scores?
