For me the choice is obvious.

Renouf looks the goods, he is very mobile and athletic, can use the ball well by hand and foot, and is a good tackler too.

Taylor is probably the better hit-out merchant at this stage, but is worse than useless in all other categories.

Yet I see people here putting Taylor ahead of Renouf.

Renouf is a better ruck rover thats a given. But we need a ruckman to give our midfield first use of the ball.

Renouf is a non factor in the hitouts. Thats the ONLY reason Talyor is ahead of Renouf.

Ideally Bob would ruck 80% of the time and there one of the others 20%. We don't have that luxury at the moment.

I'm sorry but for what I've seen both of them have a few highs and a f-aton of lows in regards to everything other than rucking.

The difference is at this stage is Taylor can at least ruck whereas Renouf seems to have no idea whatsoever in this regard.

Therefore at the moment Taylor.

Agree with Buddster....voted Taylor ......him & Bob, when they are up & running are a pretty good ruck combo and a big reason we did so well last year.

Its a simple choice. Taylor by a mile.

Renouf is the more mobile ruckman. Problem being, Hawthorn doesn't play thru our ruckman making Renouf's mobility a waste.

Basically, the choice comes down to whom is the better tap ruckman, thats where the Tinman wins hands down.

Unfortunately both of there strengths is the others weakness.

Simon Taylor has terrible disposal and cannot read the play, but his actual ruck work is quite good. He wins front position and gives good taps to his midfielders.

Brent Renouf has good disposal for his size, can read the play and win some of his own ball. However, he is continually out-bodied in the ruck contests and does not win enough hit-outs.

That's why we desperately need Robert Campbell back in the ruck who has a balance of both.

I think Renouf will be a gun.

How's the mobility? Just needs to take a leaf out of Ryder's book and just leap at the ball and not worry about his man.

I made a thread on this a month ago, search before u start a thread dick

Oh no it's the end of the world.....

Back to the topic, I think Taylor is the better ruckman whilst Renouf is a better around the ground player which has been stated earlier. The extra experience that Taylor has had has given him a boost. However, I would love to see Big Max strut his stuff instead of these two!

It's a bit dissapointing I thought Taylor would have played with a bit more conviction this year having missed out on playing in the premiership. The word was that he worked is Tail (escuse the pun) off during the pre-season but unfortunately this maybe as good as it gets.

Taylor is the better ruckman at stoppages, I agree that Renouf shows alot of potential, but he still has a fair way to go. I don't think he has brought anything more to the table than a couple of glimpses that he showed late in the season last year.

Taylor for me, but at this stage I don't think either are the answer to our woes.:(

Renouf for me.

Everyone seems to want taylor in the ruck atm. I agree to some what. But most of you also say Renouf has alot of potential.

Why not put Renouf in over Taylor and lets see if that potential can be realised. The quicker we do this the quicker we may have a good ruckman on our hands. ATM Big bob is the only good ruckmen on the books.

Its a waste of time having someone like taylor rucking. He isnt learning anything anymore, what we see now is what we gonna get for another 5 -7 years. How soon we forget all the free kicks he gives away and turnovers etc.

GIVE RENOUF A CHANCE!

Taylor might get the tap but his opponents are exploiting his inability to provide a 2nd effort, and they're running off his and providing an option to get the clearance. Our ruckmen need to seriously work on their repeat efforts

I agree that Renouf is mobile & athletic. I am not sure he can use the ball well by foot, I actually can't remember him delivering a good foot pass ever!!
Not much difference between them, just need to get Campbell back in the ruck & whoever is left can come off the bench for 10 mins a quarter.
