Why? It's a professional environment. If Teague doesn't want the stress of potential replacements taking his job whilst he's employed, he should sign 1 year deals. Stiff sh*t.

Ok let's say Clarkson is a 10/10 coach, Teague is a 5/10 coach.

We currently have a 5/10
We'd love a 10/10
The 10/10 isn't available
The other candidates are all 4/10
Lucky we still have the 5/10, as that's better than the 4/10
If the 5/10 doesn't get to a 7-8/10 next year, then we chase the 10/10.
I would say that is an unprofessional environment that will further foster the poor culture at the club. Why would any player want to be surrounded by that

So what happens next year when Clarko changes his mind and doesn't come and we have wasted a year treading water?

Clarko might be a 10 out of 10 coach but he will be coming to a club with a 1 out of 10 culture (down from a 3 ). Doubt even he could fix that.

You want good culture, it starts with treating people fairly and with respect not screwing people over.

We whinge about carrying Murphy to 300 games at the detriment to the team, but it's looking after our people. Good or bad for culture?

You're assuming our culture will be 1/10 at the end of next year if we keep Teague. I think if we commit to getting him the help he needs then things can turn around quickly. FYI keeping Teague on would be treating him fairly & with respect, so unsure how that would drain the culture further next year? Sacking him this year would be screwing him over, you're advocating to sacking him thus advocating to worsen the culture - you're contradicting yourself a bit.

Nonetheless it looks like by tonights media reporting and B70's post Teague won't be kept around! So my assumption is likely wrong.

Keeping Teague on as coach without giving him 3 year contract would become a self fulfilling prophecy of failure. I think we have seen enough and Teague isn't a senior coach regardless of how much help we give him. Lets just thank him for his efforts and move on. Good culture can be ruthless but you still need to treat people fairly as well as you can under the circumstances.

Good luck to David Teague for the future. It didn’t work out at Carlton but we should have no ill will towards him.

His managers comments are his own.

Teague would have rightly learned fate before the members are told. His camp likley went public before Sayers has had a chance to notify you. Sound fair?
Should of announced it to BigFooty before telling Teague......

We would of got B70 to inform him

I feel for Teague. He should never have been appointed two years ago and now we have potentially ruined his Senior Coaching career.

Is the Board FINALLY going to go through the process they promised to go through two years ago or are they going to appoint Ross Lyon off the cuff and get it wrong again? If they appoint Lyon, he better deliver us a Premiership or 3.

The Board and CEO should be ashamed of themselves for creating this mess two years ago. Even their own Board member Chris Judd knew Teague wasn't the right appointment at the time. WAKE UP CARLTON!!

couldn't agree more with this. i always felt is was the wrong choice and but was made because there was a real dearth of options at the time.
It was made because they caved to the beat up of the “Teague train”. Players are just as much responsible for this after they also advocated for him but the accountability needs to be with the CEO and the Board. We are once again the laughing stock of the competition

As someone with a spot of OCD, the symmetry is beautiful.

In fairness, there weren't an awful lot of options out there for us at the time.

The CEO should go and half the board is going so the accountability is happening.

I wanted Teague to get the job. He instantly got us to the level we should have been, won 6 from 10 before we signed him.
I thought it would be too disruptive to our rebuild that had already blown 2 years to get in another coach and start over with a new game plan etc.

I was very wrong. Just blew another 2 years.

Teague had a crack, unfortunately it didn't pan out the way any of us would have hoped

Yep. Couldn’t have said it better. Don’t hate the guy. Hope he lands a job (possibly the Tigers). May even end up developing into a fine head coach 5 or so years from now.

Unlike most failed senior coaches who were highly rated assistants at the time of their appointment, Teague was never really considered in contention for a senior job before landing the carlton gig. Now this doesn't mean he wasn't a good coach as public perception isn't everything, but it does suggest he was probably not in the top handful of potential candidates available at that time.

I personally think he was in the right place at the right time, taking over from Bolton. Boltons midfield was Cripps plus 3 19- 20 year olds. Not hard to improve when you swap them out for Murphy and Curnow.

Whilst you could argue that Carlton ruined Teague's senior coaching career by appointing him early, you could also say Teague may not have ever become a senior coach if not for circumstances at Carlton. Potentially our clubs incompetence enabled him to achieve a life goal he never otherwise would have had the chance to experience?

There is a decent crop of young newbie coach candidates. You can guarantee we won’t be looking at any of them. Of the experienced coaches out there they all have their issues. But Ross, as far as I’m concerned, is the best of the crop (after Clarko of course).

Did I miss the part where David Teague actually accepted the job.
