Rudd swung 23 seats, Abbott 18. Something in that range taken directly off Labor

Abbott was only 'deeply unpopular' with those that never would have voted for the Coalition anyway. If someone had said this time last year that Trump would win the election as well as the overall vote and both houses then you would have said they were crazy.
Expect a similar rout in Australia at the next election. And unlike the Democrats, Labor have been given due warning.
