Here is my team:

Milburn Scarlett Hunt
Wojak Egan Enright
Byrnes Bartel Djerkurra
Chappy Mooney Kelly
Jnr N Ablett Varcoe

R: Ottens Ling Corey

Int: Hawkins, Prismall, Selwood, Blake

Kelly gets a run on, due to looking very good in the preseason, plus he'd take over Gardiner's spot. Surely someone with a bit of class should get the run over CG.

Hawkins will get another go, but be prepared that he will shift back to the 2's in the next week or so. Just to keep the young lad fit for it. It is hard for him to step up to the level of an AFL athlete after schoolboy footy.

I've put Djerkurra and Wojak on opposing sides of the ground, as both have a massive amount of pace, and both can carry the ball well, giving us a two pronged approach coming out of the backline and up the ground.

We should be too much for the Demons, especially without Robertson. Like Brad Johnson he seems to be able to carve us up every single time. Nietz is a huge loss also; he also plays well against us.

Thoughts anyone?? I can also see the team unchanged, but thought with Kelly available and Djerkurra earning a spot, should they go in or wait another week??

Hey there.

My team is looking shot already, I'm thinking the Cats will roll us but the only team as unpredictable as our mob is your mob. ;) So there's some hope.

I'm actually looking forward to watching Hawkins, Nablett and Selwood play. I haven't seen them yet this year but I've heard good things.

I agree, our defense should absolutely dominate the game.

I don't think that Varcoe and Djerkurra will play in the same game together.

Yes I really like that side , I would like to see Brynes gone but I dont think that will happen for another week until Stokes is ready & Blake will hang around till King is ready , Although that wont be a long return with Kingys history.
Yes Gardner for Kelly sounds like the only change for me

SO mate how did you drop Djerkurra?

CG for Kelly - I think we all agree, accept for bomber on that one.
Who gets dropped for

J Hunt played well last week, might of done him some good going to get dropped, just hope he gets consist.

Mackie won't get dropped, I thought he played pretty well against Carlton.

He looks decent in defence.

I think that you're right in that Mackie won't get dropped. He played pretty well compared to his usual form but I still don't see him being an AFL player. He is too light, not good enough under pressure and turns the ball over too often. Bring back D. Johnson who is a not flashy but always gives his best in Mackie's place.

I have to disagree. Mackie and Woja tore it up against Carlton, he looked every bit the AFL player.

No question about Wojack, I thought that he was outstanding - best game that I have ever seen from him actually. I continue to have my doubts about Mackie though and really believe that Geelong are trying to force him into the team given that they have so much invested in him. I can remember at least one turn over on Saturday after a pass from Scarlett that directly resulted in a Carlton goal. Not good enough.

This is my team for the weekend

B: Hunt Scarlett Enright
HB: Milburn Egan Selwood
C: Mackie Bartel Wojcinski
HF: Chapman Mooney G.Ablett
F: Varcoe Hawkins N.Ablett
Foll: Ottens Corey Ling
Int: Blake Prismall Djerrkura Rooke/D.Johnson

In: Rooke/D.Johnson Djerrkura
Out: Byrnes Gardiner

I think with the wide expanses of the MCG, we need more runners, hence the reason Djerrkura is in. I don't think Byrnes is an effective forward, as his woeful conversion rate states, plus as mentioned elsewhere is pushed off the ball to easily, therefore Djerrkura is in to replace him as another crumbing/midfield rotation option with Chappy, Gazza and Bartel. I'd keep Varcoe permanently in the forward pocket. He seems dangerous as a crumber. I would bring Rooke or D.Johnson in solely to blanket Travis Johnstone, and niggle and harrass him at every opportunity. The guy seems to go missing when these tactics are employed against him. I'd prefer Rooke in this role as he would be more dangerous going the other way, but if the coaching staff want him to get match fitness in the VFL, then DJ would be an ideal substitute. Play Ling on Brad Green or Cameron Bruce.

I would have Ottens play 20 minutes of each quarter in the ruck, and the last 10 in the forwardline, with Hawkins to come off for Blake. I'd rotate Mooney and N.Ablett between CHF and the pocket just to mix things up a bit. Maybe push Mackie into the forward line at times to play the lead up flanker role that Gardiner had played.

Hard to say how we should match up in the backline, as I don't know who Melbourne will have up there since Robbo and Neitz are both out. Whoever's up there, I think we could handle them pretty well. The only real danger I can see in their forwardline is Davey, but even he pulled up a little proppy last weekend. I'd give Hunt first crack at him, and then maybe Wojcinski.

Is Max Rooke really Gary Senior in disguise? Why would he get a go after being out since Feb, Really?.....it baffles the mind.
Hawkins will not start. Ottens at full forward. Charlie would have to be to be a smidge unlucky to be dropped. Byrnes not dropped until next week.

No Change.

Thats a good line up :thumbsu:

Speaking of Wojac, the way he played against Carlton, i thought he was gonna do his knee again, TOUCH WOOD!! because i watched that game when he did it, running at full pace, and trying to sell like 3 dumbies, Touch wood, i just really **** myself when he kept doing it

Didn't anyone watch the Carlton game? What did that and the Footscray debacle teach us? I'll tell you............

OTTENS IS A F**KING RUCKMAN - NOT A FULL FORWARD.

I apologise for the capitals but it had to be said. Again. He should never be anywhere near the goalsquare unless we are desperate. Hawkins looked fine there last week and most definitely should start. Leave Ablett and Mooney as our other tall forwards.

Agree, Ottens should only be used out of the square if our other forwards are all getting comprehensively beaten or if we don't have any other options, which, if our current forwards are managed properly shouldn't be an issue.

Agreed. But you can't say that we have been in a position for a few years to have done any different than have him playing at FF, simply because having him in the ruck and Henry, Kent or Charlie playing forward is worse than having an inexperienced Blake and an unfit King tapping it.
Now that we have forward options, it becomes a no-brainer... earlier though, it wasn't.

True, until this year totally agree. But even without Hawkins in there you could argue that Ablett and Mooney offer sufficient height and marking ability to free him up. I just really, desperately hope that with our current setup we can afford to leave him on the ball. He looks a much better footballer there.

Agree with you Partridge that Ottens should be playing predominantly in the ruck, but with either King or Blake in the side then Ottens won't be playing the whole match on the ball. So when he's not resting on the bench a short stint deep in the forward line would be a good thing, could throw the opposition backline out and get the team an occasional one or two goals.

That's a case of a DUH!
If you haven't noticed Shazza is a little man. About somewhere in the 170's last time I checked. And he's not beefy either, so of course if someone bigger and/or stronger than him pushed him off the ball he'd go flying.

But i vote have Byrnes as a bencher, play for like at least 5 mins every quarter. Just to give other people a break. Espcially if it's Woja or DJ.

charlie will def play this week, his form hasn't been that bad ( hasn't been great but still doing enough to stay in the team ) . Lets drop players due to form not because we don't like them.

Bye bye, Byrnesy, bye bye. Good run, 3 or 4 chances for goal, 3 or 4 behinds. In a close match, we're shot with that sort of conversion.
