Difficult because of the injuries:

Waite – quad, possibly available
Fisher – should be available, but would rather him rest another week to avoid a major hamstring tear
Hartlett – just done his hamstring. Terrible luck, was on the verge of selection after putting in a massive preseason. Probably 4-5 weeks from selection again
Kennedy – apart had a minor groin injury, but should be available
Setanta – calf injury. Should be ready
Lappin –very unlikely this week

While having injuries ain’t great, the Blues need to develop enough list flexibility to cover them.I think this is the best we can field for the Hawks game....

B: Carrazzo Thornton Sporn
HB: Russell Whitnall Walker
C: Simpson Bentick McGrath
HF: Houlihan Waite Murphy
F: Betts, Setanta , Kouta
Foll: French Scotland Stevens

Inter: Blackwell Kennedy, McLaren, Saddington

In: Kennedy, Setanta, Russell, Waite, Blackwell

Out: Deluca, Fev(suspended), Teague, Chambers, Lappin (inj)

Waite will be the main KP forward, Kouta the 2nd, and Setanta/Kennedy the 3rd. If we struggle up forward we can put Whitnall at CHF and Saddington down back. Time to play Blackwell and Russell. They are our future and would much prefer to see these guys play instead of Teague and Chambers. Russell has similar height and pace to Walker, and both these players are ideally suited to the Hawks forwards, and will push each other. :)

fevola shouldn;t been reported period the umpire must been on the blind side of him who should have withdrawn the report, i can see carlton will appeal it who wouldn;t they will win the appeal

What was fev surpose to do if he dosn;t chase he gets into trouble and if he dosn;t tackle he gets into trouble mab fev might as well let his apponent get the ball and take it away he can just stand there :thumbsu:

i think that whitnall should be played forward this week. if you think about hawthorn's forwards, there isn't a suitable matchup for him. croad, if forward, will be manned up by thornton. williams will be held by carrazzo or mcgrath.

hawthorn dont have the best backline so i think we need to stretch them as best we can. asuming fev is out, we should have forwards of whitts, kennedy, setanta, fish (if ready), waite (if ready), deluca, eddie, and a resting ruckman. of course they will not be there at the same time, that would be way too top heavy, but a rotation like that wqould really stretch their defense-croad may have to play down back.

also, how do we man up against their ruckmen? do we go barnaby on spida, d-mac on campbell? they know we dont have the best backline and will be trying to exploit this. one will definitely be resting forward.

i agree wif u that u shood give kennedy a go!!! wat wood u b expecting from him??? 5 marks 10 possies 2 goals?? is that a bit much?? thoughts

Went on Sat nite and wondered why Bryan wasn't playing.
As a floating forward, with his ability to kick,
and the fact that he provides a solid contest around the ground,
is he injured?

His form is almost non existant in the VFL and his training form in the last month is a long way off. Not even close to getting a game and unless he picks up he wont play all year in the seniors.
He is not providing a solid contest around the ground in the VFL and his work rate is down. Will take a strong mark once per game but its the second and third efforts which the coaches want but are not really getting. Ruckwork is still poor and is not improving either.

id say the team looks like this:

FB- Houlihan - Thornton - Teague
HB- Carazzo - Saddington - Simpson
C- Walker - Koutoufides - Murphy
HF- Bentick - Whitnal - McGrath
FF- Betts - Waite - De Luca
Follow: French - Scotland - Stevens

Int: Sporn - Mclaren - Russel - Setanta

This is the team that wil get across the line over the hawks:p

If Fish, Fev and Waite aren't available for Friday night, I would consider moving Whitnall forward for this game only.
It' either going to be Saddington or Whitnall as our focal point up forward I think. I wouldn't rush Kennedy in unless he's ready, same with Carlos.
Other than that Longmuir might be worth a punt.
Going to be hard to kick a winning score this weekend I reckon, someone needs to stand up and kick a bag!

Fev isn't contested the appeal, just heard on SEN. Pretty stiff IMO to get a week, but probably didn't want to risk 2.

What's the story with Waite? 50/50 chance or likely to play? He smashed us last year.

We probably wont have any changes except maybe Franklin who returning from an ankle injury.

And by the way, I'm starting to tire of all the supporters wanting Russell to be given a senior game, without doing anything in the reserves!
We need players to prove themselves in the VFL first, not just handed a spot.
At this point in time, he's showed very little in the VFL (I am really hoping he comes good though!)

Also heard that his attitude around the club is terrible. Well, him and Raso. IMO, both will probably be delisted at the end of the year.

When we have Fish, Lappin, Waite, Fevola etc all out and we STILL dont offer a game to our younger performers when do we. If they dont get a game now they wont all season, simple as that. If we have Fev, Waite and Fish in the team, setatna and Kennedy will find it too tough to get a game. Someone should tell setanta to book his ticket home.

Raso? The club chose him as a bottom age player to develop. IIRC, they reckon he'd have been first round pick in 05. I doubt they'd delist, probably a long term player, like Simpson was.

in the herald sun today it said that fisher was all set to line up this weekend. lappin is doubtful mainly due to the fact that we play on friday and not later in the weekend. waite is def one more week. and of course fev has one week

at least we have one of our big 3 playin in fisher.

btw big inclusions ready for the match against richmond. hope we destroy them and show to them it takes to win a wooden spoon
