Im going to go for my wish list team, rather than most probable team. I hope these players somehow impress enough over the pre-season to pull it off.

We need to maximise speedy running power in the flanks and wings.

Coffield, Jones, Buss
Dale, Lobb, Bramble
Freijah, Treloar, Williams
Vander, Naughts, Weightman
West, Darce, Marra

English, Bont, Richards

int: Sanders, Davidson, Libba, Kennedy
sub: gags

surprises:
coffield over duryea. Like for like. At 33 Duryea has to hand over the keys at some point. If Coffield cant get up to speed, I dont mind having a look at Gags or West playing in defence as that lockdown role, but I doubt that will happen.

Davidson. everybody is going to have their 'smoky' to make the 22, and mine is this guy. Already has the running power, and a smart cookie on a good trajectory. He is competing with the likes of McNeil and Vander, so the bar isnt incredibly high.

This might be one of the few "wish list" teams on here that includes Vandermeer.

Not knocking it. Just noting that not many have him in their best 22.
When he's not a whipping boy he is more tolerated than praised.

I struggle to see why Coffield is in so many team predictions. To me he lacks speed and does not add a lot. I have O'Donnell, Khamis and even Buss if he has a big pre season ahead of him.

Struggled with the same thing. Playing North they have Zurhar- who would probably be a good match up as would Fritsch. They are too tall for Duryea. Dale just not defensive enough.

Duryea is deceptively quick and strong 1:1 but burst speed will be the first thing to go as it was with Wood and Morris. His smarts keep him in it - and expect he is first pricked - but main reason is because Khamis takes too long to react and looks slow (is he? If he could get 5% faster he could take it).

Coffield was a star at u18 with great doesn’t seem quick but that was not the case when drafted - he was Lightspeed with a sub 3 sec 20m and top10 leap he is also strong - he should be perfect.

His draft profile is why we’re chasing him:

“STRENGTHS
Athleticism
Work in tight spaces/evasiveness
Efficiency
Versatility
Leadership

Coffield tested as one of the fastest players in the draft pool with a sub-three second 20m sprint time. Add to that his sizable vertical leap, 190cm frame and strong hands, and you have a ready-made AFL athlete. The most promising thing about Coffield is that he combines his athletic traits with a high-level football IQ, which has inevitably seen him draw comparisons to Scott Pendlebury.”

JOD is fast but not sure if this is ‘for a big guy’ or can keep up with these very fast players. At 197 - I can’t see him as being fast enough. Even though he is very strong athletically.

Buss is even bigger and developing the perfect big bodied FB shape - looks really good - but don’t think he is fast enough.

Bramble same height as Duryea but not as strong.

Ed now in midfield. Jacques picked for the future. Davidson has a lot of great traits / genuinely fast - very good in the air - not sure of defensive ability.

Friejah was great for first year and has speed but is big unit and not sure how quick (actually don’t know how quick he is). Williams arguably the best but also a big fella at 190. A few years ago his 1:1 work was going really well but now he is much smaller and more of a runner.

One player who had a great game at HFF at the end of last year was Baker - was excellent.

Freijah’s quite quick. He has that loping running style which doesn’t really look quick but he can cover ground well.

We are trying to embed a new team gameplan and vander is perhaps the best exponent of it that we have. He runs like the clappers, he knows what to do and he may over time get better with the ball in hand. Im certainly not replacing him with anyone who cant run, such as Kennedy.

As for Coffield, its a wish list. Hes a good size, and while he doesnt have any standout attributes, theoretically he doesnt have any deficiencies either. Hoping for a good solid defender on the ground and in the air who can take his turn distributing the ball without necessarily being a 'goto' player. A bigger version of Duryea with better disposal is what Im hoping for.

I dont really have an idea about our abundance of tall backs - Jones and Lobb are locks, but then Buss, Buku and JOD are fighting for one spot. We dont want to be too tall back there. I think with Buss it might just be time - particularly against North. Im not VFL watcher, but I hear his strengths are intercepting and distribution, so that fits with 3rd tall

Jones got shown up by a teenager in the final so it's not inconceivable that we roll out Lobb, JOD and Buss in round 1 if father time is catching up with Liam.

That's a harsh call on Jones for mine. Reckon Dear was on JOD when he was doing most of his damage.

Jones form did trail off a little towards the end of the year, but was still good enough for 4th in our b&f.

I would be staggered if he's not there R1.

Just what I was going to say. Took me a while to find the B&F thread :)

Old dudes need resting through the season. We want to manage Treloar and Jones

And Naughton got his ass handed to him by a teenager with 100 games less experience a couple of times too. Doesn't mean we will drop him. One game doesn't define form. Jones will still start until he actually struggles for a few games in a row. Whilst he did have a couple of poor games last year, he still put together some good ones and was solid for the most part. He is an automatic starter and best 22. In no world, would he be pushed out before Round One. He still has some credits in the bank.

Could see JJ starting forward. Freijah has gone past him down back and if we are playing 3 talls there is no spot for him. It's not his best spot but he's an upgrade on McNeil and adds a different dynamic to the forward line.

FB: Buss, Jones, Duryea
HB: Dale, Lobb, Freijah
C: Williams, Libba, Davidson
HF: VDM, Naughton, West
FF: Weightman, JUH, Darcy
R: English, Treloar, Bont
Int: Richards, Kennedy, JJ, Bramble
Sub: Sanders

This is a game we should win easily my only concern is North are going to turn the corner at some stage with all their early picks and adding some experience is probably a good move by them. If Bevo loses this he will go from under pressure to living in a furnace.
