Haha, I'd be preaching for weeks that Malthouse would play McCarthy before we hit the finals, thought he was gonna end up hanging me out to dry.
Malthouse has clearly pegged him as someone who can perform in the big games, obviously wants him in the mix for finals (more-so than Medhurst it'd appear).

Great news, extends our depth that little bit more and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the decision for our best 22 is made all that much harder after his game this weekend.
Some people have gone way too early on Jmac, he is all class.

I expected Davis to play but he hardly deserved a recall from all reports. Hopefully he is allowed to play VFL finals, I don't think a weekend on the sidelines will do him much good.

I think it's a good side, but I just don't see, when you've got nothing on the line, why you wouldn't play Leon or Medhurst to try to give them a chance at getting some form. You would hope Josh (but can he is understandable) and McCarthy aren't going to play much finals, so I don't see much merit in giving them a run against guys who could genuinely make a difference like Leon and Medders.

Ah well. No hodge is good for us too, not that this game matters all that much.

Any confidence or hope leon or meddy had would surely be dashed now. Medhursts last month and a half bar 1 game has been top notch. Im really feeling for him because when he's confident, I rate his game breaking ability with Dids'.

Strange selection, but I guess MM has a plan.

Davis didn't deserve a game after this below average effort in the VFL last week, although Meds must be considered a "bit stiff".

For those with the Didak rumours, IT'S A ****ING BRUISED SHOULDER for the 456th time.

Great to see Nathan Brown get another game, he was very good next week, and has actually played on both Roughead and Buddy in the past (although Buddy killed him).

McCarthy is the "strange in", but I see it as Mick wanting to give everyone of the 25 or so players a game that are going to be part of our premiership tilt.

I was surprised to see Jmac in i thought that they would gave either on of or both of Davis or Medhurst a chance to prove themselves for finals and we needed some smaller players in our forward line

Don't mind that at all. Rest Presti and Didak, Medders a bit stiff, a pointed message possibly to Leon as well.

Surprised to see McCarthy in over davis and medhurst, his form has been good in the twos though

Otherwise predictable reid in anthony out and fraser in for his 200th

Great news for J-MAC, it will be about the easiest AFL senior game he has played.

Every time we pick him, it seems to have been against one of the top 4, but now he gets to play the Hawks in a dead rubber game without Hodge.

I think apart from the "getting him a run" factor, I believe the reason he is playing is more to do with the future then anything else, as he is part of our future, while Leon and Meds don't have a lot left to offer past next year IMO.

Plus J-MAC is a little more versatile, if he is fit, he can play midfield also, unlike Leon and Meds whose senior midfield days are over.

I like the boy, so great to see him get a run, although unless he "burns", I doubt he would play against the Dogs.

'

I am a Massive fan of J-Mac and people who think he is Trade Bait, This should be a Clue he is not

For those with the Didak rumours, IT'S A ****ING BRUISED SHOULDER for the 456th time.

I'm not meaning to feed into the rumours per se, but I'd hardly take the clubs word on injury as indisputable fact.

"Sean Rusling (select your body part): 1-2 weeks"
12 weeks later...

Goldsack missed about 5 weeks earlier this season and never even appeared on the injury list.
Leon Davis has been out with a "calf" muscle like three times this year.

Didak could well just have a bruised shoulder, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the club was playing ducks and drakes, especially on the eve of finals.

Good changes, we'll get to see the difference between our Top-notch 22 (i.e the team with Presti, Brown, Didak in it) vs. our emergency team (or there abouts, i.e. with N Brown, Fraser and JMac/Davis/Medhurst).

Which in hindsight is very important come finals, they will be taking very large notes on this game.

Predicting the future in the past are we now Matty!:D

Nice to see J-Mac get a game before the season is out. Has been unlucky with injury and his form of late in the twos has been outstanding.

Congrats to Josh too. Has given the club great service.

As for Leon, no big deal that he is an emergency.

You can almost guarantee he will play week 1 of finals against the Bulldogs.

As for Medders, he is up against it.

Reid's inclusion is music to my ears, will be great to see how he measures up against Buddy. Hope Josh and J Mac fire, a healthy competition for the spots never hurt anyone.

Just a gut feel- Medders will not play for Collingwood ever again, hope i'm wrong.

This is no MM plan for J-Mac, from all reports he has been tearing up the VFL, the opportunity has risen and he is the form player of the two's.

As for Medhurst, that is it for 2010, no way will he be brought into the team for a final (unless injuries strike). He was rusty for a H&A match, I doubt he could handle finals intensity.

Didak, L.Brown, Presti, Jack? and Davis along with the current 22 make up our 'finals squad'

WORST SELECTION OF THE YEAR BY A MILE!!!! Just brainless..

We're playing WB in our 1st final in 1 week, both Medhurst and Davis have excellent records against them, Morris is out for the year, McCarthy comes in???? I am clearly missing something.

To not play a specialist forward pocket against the Doggies or to bring one in with no match practice at senior level would be a bad mistake considering the fact that Morris is out. Morris didn't play in Round 1 and look what Medhurst did to Hargrave. Outside of resting players/nursing injured ones, this week should be a dress rehersal for our first final.

Presti still out worries me. I'm wrapped Reid's back and Fraser was a no-brainer.
