OK, I'm basing this purely on what I would do if I were a selector, not what may actually happy.

GWS hold the key with picks 2 and 3. I seriously can't find a logical explanation as to why they wouldn't take the best ruck at 3. I would take 2 mids, a ruck and 2 gun defenders. Then their list is pretty much complete because they already have a really exciting young midfield.

1. GWS - Whitfield

2. GWS - Toumpas

3. GWS- Grundy (Reasons above)

4. MELB - Wines (Best in and under and Neeld needs them with Moloney gone)

5. WB - O'Rourke

6. WB - Menzel (Doggies need 2 classy mids to compliment Libba and Wallis)

7. Port - Mayes (With Grundy gone, they need 1 more class midfielder)

8. Brisbane - Jaksch (They need a forward and a back...so he can plug either hole)

9. Richmond - Vlastuin - Reckon they would take Grundy if available, but otherwise probably need 1 more midfielder with a bit of aggression to round out the side. They could even opt for Membrey to compliment Riewoldt)

10. Ess - Danniher

11. Carlton - Macrae - Need another classy midfielder. Would take Jaksch though if available

12. GWS - Plowman - With mids and rucks sorter, now to fix the backline for next 10 years

13. GC - Simpson - If they are satisfied with his situation with his child, then they could do with another linebreaker. Otherwise could go an inside mid like Lonergan with Ablett spending more time forward.

14. GWS - Aiden Corr - Either him or Clurey...whoever they rate higher. Again, they need to settle the defence now.

15. North - Kennedy - The sitting on the fence phantom draft selection as a Boomer replacement. Can't see them needing anything else really.

16. Geelong - Stringer - Best available as long as they are happy with his medical reports.

17. Freo - Shaw - Take the local boy and they are desperate for talls. Could do with another inside mid though as well so Hrovat or Longergan a chance if they don't rate Shaw. Or could go O'Brien

18. Coll - Garlett - Has issues, but worth the punt and pies need a Rioli type

19. Coll - Lonergan - Need the inside/outside style mid with Ball and Swan not getting younger.

20. Adel - Clurey - With Davis and Bock gone, could probably do with some depth in defence as they were exposed once Talia went down and Rutten is ageing. O'Brien makes a lot of sense, but I think they have McKernan, Jenkins and Lynch to replace Tippett.

21. Coll - O'Brien - I think the Pies need another developing key tall. O'Brien looks to have a good leap and is agile...I think he'd be ready by the time Lynch retired. Pies have Darcy Moore in the wings as well so they would be preparing their tall department for years to come. Ultimately this means Pies take a speed demon, an in and under and a tall to round out a balanced draft for them. However, Hine typically recruits 3 of the same type in a draft, so expect him to take either Hrovat or Garner to have 3 midfield types. That way, the hope is 2 of the 3 come on at least.

22. Western Bulldogs - Hrovat - They could go Membrey for a forward target...but they probably need to finalise their midfield now and get a gun KPP next year.

23. Swans - Membrey - Nice compliment to their forward line.

24. Brisbane - Colqhoun - Speed and skills coming out of defence.

25. St.K - Tanner Smith

26 - St.K - Grahem

27. Melb - Viney

28. GWS - Wood

29. Haw - Wright

30. PA - Broomhead

As you can see i've gone a tad lateral, got the feeling Plowman will drop, the pies will take a punt on garlett, saints will reach for Rodda because they want a 'gorilla', and hawks will take towers to fill the young role.

You got two Clurey's here champ. I dont think you'll be lucky enough to get Grundy either
Thanks for the heads up.

I can see Grundy falling with few clubs now days willing to take a ruckman with a first round pick. GWS seem to have gone cold, preferring to secure a top ruckman once they are contenders rather than grow there own.

North are most likely to consider Grundy strongly at 15 but with significant faith in Daw I believe they too will pass. Grundy would be a good selection for Geelong, but with 4 genuine ruck options on their list to add another would massively skew their list profile towards taller-slower players. With an ageing midfield and Pods all but done they have more pressing needs for this selection.

Therefore, provided Grundy gets through Port Adelaide at selection 7 there is no real reason other than "he shouldn't", "he is better than that" or you hate Collingwood that Grundy couldn't slip to the Pies.

...But hey it could just be wishful thinking on my behalf...

Cheers.

OK, I think my first one is still how the draft 'should've' gone....but the one below is an updated one based on what I think will actually happen and taking into account no Adelaide.

1. GWS - Whitfield
2. GWS - O'Rourke
3. GWS - Plowman (Can't believe they will go so high on him as I reckon he would've slipped)
4. Melb - Toumpas (Since they already have Viney, they could do with some outside run now)
5. WB - Macrae (Will be temped by Wines, but they are ok for inside mids at the moment)
6. WB - Stringer (either he or Menzel...but I'm tipping Stringer)
7. PA - Wines (They could still do with more midfield run and they have a few rucks on the list)
8. Brisbane - Jakcsh (Will be temped by a number of mids, but ultimately they have some good onballers but need a tall either forward or back.
9. Richmond - Vlaustuin
10. Essendon - Danniher
11. Carlton - Menzel
12. GWS - Corr (won't risk him going to GC)
13. GC - Mayes
14. GWS - Garner (can't believe they will pass up on Grundy...surely they wont!)
15. NM - Hrovat
16. Geel - Kennedy (will be tempted by Simpson and Grundy)
17. Frem - O'Brien
18. Coll - Lonergan
19. Coll - Grundy
20. Coll - Simpson
21. WB - Clurey
22. Syd - Membrey
23. Bris - Grahem
24. St.K - Smith
25. St.K - Garlett
26. Melb. - Viney
27. GWS - Shaw
28. Haw - Wood
29. Pt.A - Broomhead
30. Pt.A - Wright
