That skinny kid called Grant on a half forward

I was once a big knocker of Grant for his work rate and commitment of the field but this guy has had the biggest turn around i have seen from a dogs youngster in years.

I am proud to say that Grant is a Doggies listed player these days and his commitment for the jumper is 2nd to none atm.

Each week he grows as a footballer and id be very let down if he missed out on a rising star nom this week. Congrats to the guy you are making us doggies fans very excited.

hes fighting with Hill for that forward spot, i would have Grant as he goes down and helps the defence and has a better work rate than Hill. His disposal has improved remarkably this year.

Could he be one of those players that are average at VFL and is better when in the AFL??

Agreed, amazing turn around. Saw him play against the Gold Coast a few weeks back. Was very lazy, no defensive pressure and would walk from contest to contest. Perhaps he is the type that needs to be on the big stage to perform. Love his intensity, really wants to play senior footy.

Really surprised, but very pleased with how he's going.

For a big bloke, he has a good turn of foot and some of his contested marks today were great.

Grant and Roughy have been one of the most pleasing aspects of the first nine rounds IMHO.

I haven't seen a 192cm player gather and give like Grant can for a little while. It's a massive part of his game.

Can't wait until he's 23-24 and he's had a number of pre-seasons under his belt.

With the way Grant has been going it has also really proven that the Barry Hall trade was worth doing. Hall commands the key tall defender which allows Grant to find his way at this level. Really promising so far.

I was very hard on this kid last year, just seemed like he didnt want to be there. Its like he has taken this year as a fresh start and lovin the way he grows each week.

His kicking has improved immeasurably. He flat out couldn't kick in his first few games - now he's a decent set shot. Hope he keeps it up.

Definitely a lot to like.

Speed
Fast (very fast) hands
Great mark
Good height
Good leap

Good recruiting. Bazza does 2010/2011 at FF then Jarrod moves there. Perfect.

I admit I was a knocker as had seen nothing from him for Willy in two years.

Congrats to him as he is playing really well and adding a different aspect to the team. I could be way off the mark but there is something in the way he goes about it which reminds me of Stevie J. from Geelong.

He may have taken the next step and looks as though he knows what he is doing, but he just reminds me of J Grant just maturing and getting confident in his own ability. I think that shows how important Hall is to the side. Who wouldn't be a little bit more confident approaching the ball with Hall beside you. But its not all Halll.

Disagree. Grant is more of a lead-up forward while we're currently developing Jones to slot into the tall full forward role.

Grant has always been a stay at home forward who lived in the forward 30 until this season so its been great to see him lead up the ground. That being said i think Jones and Grant will do a sort of mixed role like you see from most great combo's. Jones can play deep forward without a drama or as a lead up target.

I like the way he keeps his feet too. Good below his knees, can take a strong mark. Good defensive pressure.

Hard to see him being dropped. He should be getting games ahead of Hill and Everitt, IMO.

Man I was such a downer on this kid. Terrible work ethic, awful skills, the body of a martian.......but hes turned it all around. Still cant wait to see how he goes against the Pies and Cats.

No way he plays FF post-Hall I wouldnt have though. Looks like he has the tank to play that Murphy CHF role which is probably harder to fill than FF, so Im cool with that. Jones impressed me so damn much last week at Willi as well. Throw Cordy in, and sheesh, theres a lot to like about the tall forward options in the coming years.
