That skinny kid called Grant on a half forward

Plays like a flanker... is a flanker....
Cannot ever suggest a guy of his size will be a key forward.
Why not? 1cm shorter than Turtle, taller than Fev, Pav, Bradshaw, Dunstall, Brereton.

He may fill out a little more - in any case, Murphy was holding down CHF for us for years.

Thought I'd check with the Essendon fanatic missus about this one Bulldog. She reckons you don't know what you're talking about. "Hird could kick well either foot and did so as a champion for many years, so stick that!" (her quote not mine).
Couldn't you pick someone else to compare with Grant??

On Grant, I'm with those who thinks he needs a left foot, might be a bit one-dimensional without it!

Never saw Lloyd or Lucas kick the ball with their opposite foot..:p

WHAT THE **** IS WITH THE 3 KICKS WITH THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOOT??

SERIOUSLY. THAT'S WHAT UNDER 9's DO.

He's not a 'key forward' if you haven't noticed and he needs a left foot! Won't be anything more then an average player without it. Such a pity cause he can do some nice things.

What crap.

Considering you thought Hawkins was going to win the Coleman this year, I might ignore opinion in terms of spotting young key forwards;).

Maybe pay some attention to some current and former KPF's who never use their other foot, there is heaps.

I was one thinking he was a lost cause earlier this year. But gee his hands and one grab play have impressed. His set shot kicking too looks to have improved with the new way he is holding the pill.
Again I am sorry Jarrad !

He is 192cm... I don't know what you're talking about re: size, he is a very good size.

But only 81kg - that's less than Hill, Wood, Aker and Eagleton. Something to look forward to if he can put on 5-10kg over the next 2-3 years without losing his speed and agility.

Hird was very much 1 sided

Even if he doesn't put on the weight, his game isn't all that dependent on out muscling his opponent, he beats them with better reach and coordination in the air.

Not sure he's going to get a whole lot bigger. Look at how narrow his shoulders are....not much of a frame on him. He will however get a lot stronger but from what I've seen his attributes are his marking (one grab), and his pace. You don't actually want him to get too big. He's also get that touch of magic about him as evidenced by the poster he kicked on Friday night when he weaved through the defenders and kicked a banana kick. That would have been some goal.

What I have been surprised at is his repeat efforts and work ethic. Considering he always appeared to have poor stamina and looked disinterested, I can't believe this turnaround in his game. One of the few blokes in our team who chase with purpose.

Did he hit the post :( i thought he kicked it because the cheersquad started celebrating dGFDSGFDSA should have been nominated for this rounds goal of the year if he kicked it. This kid can run just needs to use his left foot, If he gets alot of muscle onto him and keeps his run on him as you said hes going to be a freak.

Im not sure that there is a correlation between bone structure and muscle bulk - for instance I have broad shoulders but there's nothing on em :) however, agree that grant is probably going to be on the skinny side.

Hopefully Grant can avoid the comfort zone blues that beset Everitt once he had established a semi-permanent spot in the side.

I am absolutely wrapped that Grant is getting so many games into him. Games into Grant and a fit Williams was on my list of things I hoped for this season.:)

In time, do you think Grant will play closer to goal, or is he more suited to the half forward pushing up role?

Isn't that what the last 3 pages have been discussing?

I'm intrigued. A few posts tonight saying Grant played a ripper of a game against Collingwood, his best yet, apparently. I'm not disagreeing since I didn't get to see the game but could somebody summarise for me why his game was so good, please? The official stats don't really show it - something like 5 kicks and 6 HB, 1 goal, no CMs, 3 clangers, etc.

Does anybody think he's about to have a "breakout" game (you know, where he kicks 4-5 goals and has say 12 marks and 20 possessions)? If he keeps playing better every week, it seems a fair chance.

No he didn't have a ripper of a game but continues to show flashes of the player he is going to become. Anyone who hasn't been genuinely excited about what they are seeing with Grant is very hard to please. Apart from Hall he is the player I most want to see the ball going towards one on one.

Wasnt his best game, just like his standard games this year which is very good. Workrate, leading, pressure and little things such as making something out of nothing and neutralizing a ball where magpies have more numbers behind it were all there.

That solitary goal he kicked was brilliant though, weaved through traffic with amazing pace bit Naitanui esque.
