I believe John Henry saw it and was impressed. I dont think you signed him off it though

That I don't doubt Henry was probably impressed by that, but to anyone believing we signed him off the back of that, well lets just say there's a bridge in Sydney i'm selling that you might be interested in buying.

And no theres no youtube footage of it either :p

Downing was only around the 16 mark, not the 20 as was rounded up to.

25 Mill Adebayor
18 Mill Jo
17 Mill Roque Santa Cruz
16 Mill Kolarov

Every club has made stupid transfer moves
adebayor is twice the player carroll is and a proven premier league player over a long period and has done pretty well everywhere he has went.
if you think 25 million for him is bad then what is 35 million for carroll
shit example.

kolarov is ok. 16 mil is too much, yes.

jo and RSC are both better players than carroll and both came at half the price.
not sure you should really be insulting their spending.

fact is kenny has wasted a shit load of money on shit. no denying that.

Adebayor is a proven scorer, at everywhere but City. The fact he's spent more time on loan then at City speaks volumes for that transfer.

Jo like Adebayor spent more time on loan then at City, RSC barely cracked a game so again they might have done well elsewhere but at the club that paid top dollar for them got squat value for them

And can you point out where I denied the Carroll/Downing transfers were bad value? Because i've agreed we haven't got anywhere near a rate of return given what we spent

Adebayor, when it suits his is a very good footballer, easily worth £25m (and more). He also scored 19 goals for City in 36 starts (plus 9 sub appearances) so to suggest he didn't score at City is wrong (Suarez has 12 goals from 32 starts for Liverpool by way of comparison, Carroll 6 in 22).

When it doesn't suit he's not worth a bean, but I think that aspect of his game is overstated a bit. In retrospect, he wasn't value for money, but we should remember that he had the Togo incident, and a change of manager.

Jo cost around £5m (and around £5m too much). He would have cost £18m if we won league, domestic cups, champions league, he made plenty of appearances and scored plenty of goals. But we didn't so he didn't.

RSC was a predictable waste of money.

Kolarov is about £10m to expensive, probably Mancini's only poor buy to date.

Downing and Henderson were supposed to have been bought on the strength of their stats. First sign of moneyball impacting on the British game (and maybe the last given the success of those two).

You've forgotten Dave Bentley for 17m. Never again.

Hazard off to Chelsea I reckon. Shame they didn't sell Malouda when he had value as opposed to what they're doing with him now.

my point was in carroll context those transfers were thrifty business. ;)

Carroll's still scored more goals then Torres since they changed clubs so we at least have that small victory :p

The Hazard transfer will be an interesting one to watch in June/July. Not really sure where he'll go. He's said he's going to England which is a start.

just read that demba ba will be leaving almost as soon as the season is over, he probably hasn't said anything so this would be an assumption i guess.

also christopher samba is fuming at venkys over the broken promises and insists his transfer request gets the nod.

Samba's off to PSG isnt he?

That Downing story has about as much chance of being true as the story that Fergie signed Bebe for legitimate reasons. Even if Werner liked Downing because of a fake video, Commoli was a massive fan of Downings back in his Tottenham days and we all know how much KKKenny likes English players.

Not to be too pedantic but why is this thread called the "January 2011 transfer window" when it is January 2012 :)

Because Embers still has last years Carlton Cole calendar up :p

yeah, it will be some sort of a bidding war between the big 6 EPL clubs...one thing for sure is that his club Lille will be a big winner (cash wise) in his move

I hope either liverpool, Tott's, or arsenal get him...sick of the other 3 stock piling all the talent

Everton are apparently in pole position to sign Jelavic from Rangers. Fee being thrown around is 3.5 million up front with add ons over time taking the fee to about 6 million pounds.

What does everyone think about him? Banged them in for fun in the back end of the 10/11 season for Rangers, Not quite as good this season but still has around 14 goals.

Is now 26 years old so the perfect age to be taking the next step in his career. Interesting to see peoples thoughts on whether he can cut it in the prem, especially for a side that is renowned for playing one up front, which Jelavic is capable of but has stated he would rather be in a front two.

My personal take is that he can take the next step, having watched Rangers for a while he seems a cut above the other strikers in the SPL. Not disrespect to Hooper, naismith or Stokes but he just finds the game alot easier.

Knows how to find the goals, has a good skill set and similar to Berbatov and Steven Fletcher gets in the right spots.

If Everton were to pull this off I for one will be watching with intrigue as it could well open the door to the SPL being taken a little bit more serious for a place to find talented players.

Arsenal are an outside chance due to their emphasis on youth but if it comes down to a bidding war which I think it will then it will be a showdown between City and Chelsea as to who will give him the best deal.

What's the story behind Bebe? I haven't heard this...
