I mean clubs, players, officials etc.

they have to be behind it. they have no choice. it's called PC. what they say aren't a true reflection of the AFL community's feelings. i'll believe that the same way i'll believe Tony Abbott when he says he supports gay marriage.

Because the AFL industry is extremely incestuous and boys clubs you get statements like that. Of course they are all going to be toeing the same line, they are trying to media manage the issue.
The stupid thing is that by doing so they are getting everyone off-side.

I also think coaches would be secretly pleased that the Swans players are so easily rustled and they would be hoping they are booed at all times as it seems it's very easy to put them off their game

"They're all saying one thing, so they obviously mean the opposite"

What if crowds just started saying "Goooooooodes" from now on in unison. Is that acceptable?
Or better still, what if the masses stop attending football.....oh wait....

as a proud Australian who is a tax payer, I have the right to do whatever I want

That's something the Government absolutely wants to correct... the right do anything other than pay your god dang peasantry taxes to support their helicoptering, spouse rorting, union paper bagging lifestyles.

It is human nature. Tell the masses not to do something and it only amplifies the problem.

Gillon lost me this morning on radio when he said it was okay for Jetta to gesture to the WCE crowd in a provocative manner but it was not okay for Mark Murphy to give a crowd the finger. I really do not see the difference.

Logically and objectively, both are offensive actions. I think you are right on.
That's why I think this has become a crisis for the AFL and now they cannot win.

PC? Can you define that for me please? Because I see this as simply as asking people to show respect and not act like flogs. It's really not that hard.

Do they boo louder than others?

Yes... yes, they do.

they don't mean the opposite.

what you take from those statements is the same thing you take from this: blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah . it's just jibberish.
Nonsense. Just because you don't like a statement doesn't mean you can ignore it or declare it jibberish.

It just seems like an childish, antagonistic and boorish type of behaviour (for fans to continually boo Goodes)

Now I'm not a fan or defender of Goodes but it really is getting beyond a joke now, I'm just relieved Collingwood are playing the Swans up there, rather than at the G.

Its not a good look for the game, but I really don't think they can really monitor or police the situation (of fans booing at games)

It just strikes me as an unsavoury lynch mob pack mentality now.
thanks for the backhander at Pies! no one booing at Carlton I assume? Wasn't it Carlton he did the dance for? btw the booing should stop because we know it causes racial offence. To do so knowing that is obscene

That is sums it up for me.

What if a player objects to be yelled at from over the fence because it hurts him. Do we stop yelling at all opposition players?

No. What we all have learned over this age of enlightenment, is that for reasons we do not have to understand, racism is not like other types of abuse. The hurt is much deeper and the scars more permanent. In saying that, it does depend on what is being said. If someone yelled comments to St Nick about his sister for example, that would be just as unacceptable.

"They're all saying one thing, so they obviously mean the opposite"

If a vast majority of the supporters don't have a problem with the booing (evidenced because it doesn't stop) then I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of people within the AFL system (players and coaches) wouldn't either.
Players and coaches have no vested interest in this so their personal opinions would reflect that of the general public (one would think). But they can't obviously say that they love the booing

Because the AFL is extremely media conscious, especially around their positive vibe message, they try and manage the dialogue around issues. Thus you get the AFL condemning it, then you also get clubs falling into line as well and players and media personalities - it's a boys club, can't go against the house

Stupid from the AFL. They should just ignore it, too late now though.

When I get into Jones this week on the fence I hope he gives me the finger and if he gets fined Its a disgrace

Considering Murphy was fined for this and he is also not alone or the only one..........

Also if you watch the vision of the whole incident Murph was smiling afterwards as soon as his finger went down and the Pies supporters were giving him hell that game prior to that goal, but the fine was correct and he should not have done it.

How Goodes and Jetta can perform their so called " Dance Acts " which mimic throwing spears at people when they do not like a section of a crowd or certain supporters without punishment is setting double standards. The rules that were brought in to stop these crowd inciting acts by players need to apply to every player in AFL regardless of race/color/jumper/shorts/parents/siblings and whatever else excuse one can come up with to justify an on field action that could incite an AFL watching crowd and i could not give a rats arse what color a players skin is that does it or heritage they have etc, as we have 1 set of rules for all AFL players for on field acts that may incite crowds during game play.

I hope the AFL ban throwing imaginary spears. I don't want to attend the footy living in fear the I might have to pretend to die.
