Double chance/straight to prelim is enough of a reward imo.

Week off allows all times to be at their best, I like it.
You say that because it's the only reason the dogs won in 2016. Without that bye you're out first round as you were going to have 5 players missing.

Yes that's his point. It allows teams to be at their best to produce a better all round finals series.

Yeah mate, it's something that benefits all teams(was marvellous for us). Top 4 already get enough of a reward.

It helps produce a better finals series

I don't like it but all good.

Still the same reward, double chance/straight to prelim.
You miss the point of the extra bye though. It makes it harder for teams to stop, start, stop, start. Look at the SANFL for example and the conversion of Minor Premiers to Premiers is not straight forward. The premier gets a bye the first week (Top 5 series) and if they win the Qualifying final they're straight into the GF with a bye again. Only 3 Minor Premiers have become Premiers in the last 11 years.

Let's hope Andrew Dillon is smart enough to remove that Round 0 half the comp not playing bullshit.
That was a flop.
It's already been confirmed and certainly wasn't a flop.

I’d move the bye to between the prelim and the GF but not really for any fairness issues. It avoids players missing the GF over a concussion or niggle. No one remembers who misses a game week 1 of the finals but the players who miss a GF it stays with them for their careers and longer in plenty of cases.

Also wouldn’t care if they got rid of it. Its current purpose is to stop teams resting players in the final round which I don’t get the fuss over. Win enough games and you can decide the best way to manage your squad.

Round 0 will probably eventually become another full round of matches so that there's 24 like the NRL, with another Gather Round thrown in somewhere to keep it at 11 home games per side.

Will never change as long as the gambling companies bankroll the AFL. They lose the most when a club throws a game by resting players.

They need to keep the week break just where it is. Can imagine the outrage if teams rest players last round and ends up gifting another team a favourable result eg top team resting half their team and team in eighth bests them. Put the Brownlow that week.

Yep thought it was pretty crap too, sucks if you are not involved. Doubt they'd rotate the teams with it either.

Not sure, think the only reason we played the Dees was because of Grundy moving, and Pies played GWS because they had the PF, so wonder if we'll get Pies next time and Lions play Geelong. They'll rotate to maintain maximum interest in the fixture.

Feels like a soft launch when footy has started and you're not involved.

As much as some will try and sell it as so those missing out also don't get an extra bye. It simply isn't the case. A week off before your season starts is just an extra week of preseason.

I'll be very happy if our second bye gets pushed to later though, think having our second bye earlier this year wasn't great.

And going in to a season against a side with a game already under their belt is just another disadvantage.

Clayton Oliver would already be a Carlton player if this was the 1980’s.
