If/when it turns out he wasn't winning anyway, they'll be able to ignore the whole thing.

Nah not sure, there's been a bit of a groundswell the last few years with the dangerous tackle rules and now this happening to big name mids who would be in the running (Merrett last year for instance, and Cripps somehow getting off) that I think they'll change it for fear of the next one being actually stuffed.
