But you dont need a bit of mongrel to be successful. Adam won a premiership with us and he was a top bloke on the field. Plenty of great character guys in all sports that are successful. Also plenty of athletes with a little mongrel in them that are successful. I just think Joel is not a tough player, he's a dick. Excellent footballer though, clearly the best Selwood but he's still a dick.
Hes a warrior mate, tough footballer.

Wish to one day say the same thing about Carlton but would need to not be 4-9 for once. Tom will have to settle for his 2 flags. Only thing blues players get more than one of these days is spoons.

I don’t think you would wish that at all tbf Lol.

As for Tom Hawkins two flags. I am sure he was thinking of it in those terms, as well.

There is differences though, the kinda stuff he does is cowardice. That's not tough. But then you'll watch him take a massive knock, blood streaming from him and he gets patched up and plays a blinder and will run through walls.

I dont know... he's a strange one.

I dont super care either way though, he's a Geelong player so I have no affinity to him. I'm sure Geelong fans absolutely adore him.

And you reckon that's not tough?

As tough as he is, good chance he has cognitive issues later it life. His head has taken a pounding in his career.

You’re very weird sometimes.

You’re very weird sometimes.

You tried once to claim that Sam Newman is a lovely bloke because he was once nice at family day. So you might be an awful judge of character.

Other players do as well. Think they’ve voted him most courageous player a couple of times. Your coward call is quite silly.

I don’t care what else he thinks or does. Won’t say a bad word about the small band of men for whom my club still exists.

Brian Cook
Frank Costa
Alec Popescu
Noel and John Newman.

Even by your standards, that’s ******* hilarious.
Is it any wonder half our engagements are hostile when you start off with a backhander. So much aggro I could reply with here. But let’s not stoop to your level and keep it clean.

- You’ll say he ducks his head.
- I’ll say bullshit, prove it.
- you’ll provide examples like this

- I’ll say that’s just a shit tackle.
- You’ll find more similar instances which will again be batted away as shit tackles. Not re-inventing the wheel here, this argument has been done to death and the ‘he ducks’ crowd have never been able to show that it is true.

Just one of probably a million who have formed this moronic viewpoint. The AFL tweaked the rules on this, clarko did what he does best and whinged about it… and he still gets tackled high. AFL footballers should learn to tackle.

Goodness gracious me - you're taking the high road. Unwarranted backhanders are literally your specialty.

And as for the rest of your comment, I'm not going to dignify it with a proper response.

Call it whatever you want, but he's made a habit of working for high tackles. Not the only one, but the fact he leads the 'free kicks for' count in the AFL era means something. I have a lot of time for Selwood, but saying he's disliked for no credible reason is beyond ignorant.

And your reasoning is non-credible. If you want to hate someone, hate your own shittrucks who can’t tackle.

Essentially I am saying the common held reason is summarily dismissed. It is the viewpoint of the football ignoramus.
While he doesnt 'duck' he works the tackling arm up onto his neck to 'win' free kicks. Im happy to admit Hunter and McLean do they same thing for the Dogs. I dont like it but its plain for everyone to see that they do.
Unquestionably. And there are times where no free is paid he shrugs the tackle loose and passes off to a teammate. Not something done to win a free but to extricate himself from the contest. The fact he still wins a lot of frees despite numerous rule changes vindicates that he is still being tackled poorly.

Selwood is the sort of player that is going to get opposition hate for the way he plays just like players like Salah and Kane do for diving. When they're on your own team you'd love them but as an opposition fan you'll get pissed off by them.

The not courageous take is stupid though. Even though I'm not his biggest fan I respect the guy and would never question his courage at all.

While on Selwood, I noticed his games count the other week. Do we reckon he's a chance at 400?
Would need another 4 years?

Will the body hold up that long is the question. Output wont drop off. But with that many head knocks will he want to keep doing that until he is 37?

And your reasoning is non-credible. If you want to hate someone, hate your own shittrucks who can’t tackle.

You're saying Selwood isn't at fault for manipulating the tackling motion? That the core tackling technique ought to be revised to cater to this spine-endangering loophole?

Maybe it's time you reassess how you react to the noise. The widespread ignorance you imply is probably on you.

Tall poppy syndrome is real - accept that people are going to try cutting down Selwood a peg or two whenever the opportunity presents. BigFooty isn't exactly full of intellectual powerhouses, and there's a sizey opportunity cost to ~90,000 posts on a forum.
