The reaction to today's loss is as good a test of bandwagoness as you're going to get. Anyone that watched us destroy Adelaide and St Kilda after just scraping over the line against muppet sides earlier in the year will realise that we have been prepared to change gears when necessary to preserve player health and legs.

Was it necessary to be in overdrive today other than to protect precious "fans" from copping it from all and sundry tomorrow?

And this sentimentalist "playing for the jumper" crap is the same rubbish that was bandied about last year when we dropped games toward the end.

Did we make the GF last year?
Can anyone honestly say that we had no heart in going down to the swans even after the tapering off in our intensity over the last few rounds?

Some very short memories around here.

Agree.
Had two of them that sit in front of us leave a couple of minutes into the last quarter today, and did I give it to them.

Told them they were pathetic, staying to the end when we are winning and leaving early when we were losing, poor sports, poor suporters.

On the other hand 95% of the crowd stayed till the end which was good to see.

Agree, extremely poor form to leave before the end of the game.

I left immediately after the siren went and my seats are right next to the stairwell. Upon exiting the stadium I saw hundreds of Eagles supporters wandering around outside aimlessly. It looked like something out of Night of the Living Dead.

Might have been a bit harsh. Some people who sit next to me come from the country, and leaving 5 minutes before the end of the game effectively gets them out of the Subi carpark and Perth Metro area 1 hour earlier.

We always leave as soon as the siren sounds for this exact reason, and we have been heckled for doing so a few times.

We left our seats with about five minutes to go today. Everyone thought that we were going home, but we were just going down to the rooms. I love how some people jump to conclusions.

I agree. Gimme gimme gimme:D

If it's a close match there should be no excuse for leaving early. If it's a blowout, well then you have had time to deal with the loss and form your insults, so then you give the opposition hell. No excuse

Correct, we have a 4 hour drive to get home and there is work in the morning.
Sunday afternoon games suck!

We were poor. Is it wrong for people to call it like it is? Just because people aren't happy about the performance, doen't mean they are bandwagoners or even fickle. I've yet to see anyone concede the flag.

Do you really believe this crap?

The Eagles played the best they could earlier in the year and just couldn't hit their top form. There was none of this "ok guys, lets just sit in 3rd and get the win". That's just nonsense.

The Eagles had quiet preseason with a view to not falling over at the end of the year and being able to peak at the end of the year.

Was it necessary to be in overdrive today other than to protect precious "fans" from copping it from all and sundry tomorrow?
Yes.

Top spot would have ensured no repeat derby in an early final, maintained confidence and form, opportunity to rest a few players in a dead rubber v Richmond, and a mental edge over Freo do we meet them in September.

At the end of the day we were just flat and couldn't go with Freo. There was no preconcieved "let's just take it easy and preserve ourselves for September".

Neither was this the case last year. We just ran out of legs and had we not had 2 home finals we would have been bundled out.

Can anyone honestly say that we had no heart in going down to the swans even after the tapering off in our intensity over the last few rounds?
Do you seriously think it was done on purpose? WE RAN OUT OF LEGS. Guys like Fletcher were shot by round 18.

We played hands-off defence after the first quarter.
Are you suggesting that we chose not to apply the same amount of pressure yesterday because we were too slow to go with freo? I could count the number of times on one hand we attacked the ball carrier. Contrast this to the St Kilda game where we consistently had 2 or 3 tackling simultaneously. Difference being? We had far more to play for in the saints game, obivously. That's the game I'm using to gauge where we are currently at. That is the side you will see in a fortnights time. Bookmark it.

I don't get this attitude. Whilst I've never walked out of a game early myself, I've certainly felt like doing it. But then, I live in Victoria and I've seen a few shocking losses in the past :)

But seriously, what's the big deal? If my team is going to play like Wonthagi girls 3rd division, why shouldn't I vote with my feet?

It wasn't those leaving at 3 quarter time that bothered me actually. It's those that come on here having a sook about yesterday and bagging the team whilst ignoring the much larger picture.

Are you suggesting we tanked?

What's your point? Are you suggesting you called the Eagles, told them this, so they went out and made sure they'd be hard at it in that game but not the other?

What game you are using to gauge their form has no effect on how they play.

That is the side you will see in a fortnights time. Bookmark it.
Also has no relevance.

I have no doubt either as i'm pretty confident the Eagles will win the flag this year. But you're alluding that the Eagles are able to turn their form switch on and off and have implied we tanked a game (or at least took it easy) to preserve players. Absolute rubbish. You don't know what you're on about.

We've turned it on and off all year seemingly at will. Where have you been?

The usual nuff nuffery.
So you've never even considered that you're clueless?

Here's a hint:

1. Do you really think the Eagles let Geelong get 40 odd points in front of them on purpose?

2. If they could switch gears "at will" then why didn't they bother switching into top gear against Collingwood, Port, and the Bulldogs?
