With so many clubs with multiple top end picks, there will be more games played than ever over who clubs are interested in

Would take every rumour with a bigger grain of salt than normal

Also on a sidenote, I cannot get my head around how folks talk about Ginbey like he's a failed pick
Ginbey has played in a team mostly devoid of confidence and form, led a coach at the bottom of his game and abilities to put it nicely.
Ginbey is going to be one hell of a footballer, and about to really come into his own in his 3rd year.
If Hewett comes good in the midfield, lookout!
Father Xmas “Can I please have 20 odd games of Harley and Hewett in the midfield together in 2025, other than sledging the **** out of Simmo, I’ve been pretty good”
PS thanks in advance Santa.

If Ginbey plays like we expect he should then he will justify his pick.
If Hewett was playing footy I dont think anybody would be too upset about Ginbey
As I’ve said before; Ginbey will be AA at h/b. He’s a natural there. Just forget the move to the midfield it won’t or shouldn’t happen. He’s fast, strong, good mark and looks good running straight fast and hard. His weakness is reading the play in close and reacting quickly.
We all complain about getting h/bs and trying to turn them into mids. Well we’ve done the opposite and it works and I think will work spectacularly!
BTS! Better than Sheppherd!

Going against the grain here but reckon TT will be a solid role player without ever transcending into true a A grader as he is an attacking player with average speed which will get him found out a bit at the level.

Preferences for our picks:
12- Lindsay, Allan, TT in that order
26- Hamish Davis, no other answer.
72- Match champion bid or pick another diamond in the rough

Given the talk that Melbourne and St Kilda are very interested in Bo, if we did happen to do that trade with North (say pick 7 and our future 1st, for 2 and change), and they took Tauru at 7, and 6 “mids” (plus Ashcroft) had been taken prior to that, do you think you guys might try to trade up from 12 to 8, to ensure you could get Bo?

Either so we wouldn’t take him at 8, or Melbourne wouldn’t take him at 9?

Fair enough re the latter part.

I don't have a problem with his kicking either, but I don't see a reason to assume it will improve by just learning to lower his eyes. He's diligent and good at limiting himself to either taking an easy/obvious target or getting a head of steam going and pumping it. Very safe, but if he started going for more directed passes by foot there'd also be much more mixed results.

Mixed feelings at best about his handballing. He has a really strange technique, holds the ball central and close to his body and cramps himself, then generates all the power by moving his punching arm basically straight out. It's true that he flicks out some very quick and effective handballs in tight, but you can also see when he needs to handball in stride or get a bit of distance it's unnatural and he can't generate any momentum. It's also one-sided; he gives it off to his RHS with the outside of his right fist, which is a nifty little action that can work in tangled situations but on the whole is usually unsustainable at AFL level.

These are related. He has good instincts and positional IQ, is quick-thinking and acting and frenetic in his playing style. So he's adept at identifying the closest teammate and flicking out rapid little passes by hand, but it's not especially creative and I think will be prone to blunders. Likewise he often gets on the move early and loves to use any space in front of him, which is also why he looks quicker off the mark than he tests, and is a good metres gained player. But again, it also means he's usually moving a bit frenetically and so opts to go for the long pumping kick.

But you can't argue with his intercept game, defensive hustle, his overall positional IQ and run. Overall this is why I've said in the ideal case he'd be like getting another player in the Duggan/Hough mould.

That's fine, and maybe at 12 he'd demand to be picked given he looks a certainty to be a 150+ game AFL player, but I don't know why people seem to think it's the pressing positional need for us.
I would be very disappointed if he didn't far exceed Duggan's output at AFL level.

I think we are up against it to find a true A-grader at pick 12 anyway, imo its a choice between a safe choice or take a gamble.
Travaglia is probably the safe choice, guaranteed to get great run from half back while being a good mid-sized defender if nothing else. Allan the gamble that he can be a Yeo style mid, and Lindsay in the middle somewhere.

I dont care for Davis so much, as others have in here hes a bit similar to Banfield. If he can sit on a wing sure, but maybe a slightly different archetype wing player would be better.
I think we will be too tall through the midfield if we keep recruiting these 190cm types. One to replace Yeo would be great, but with Banfield who is 188cm I think? we might be pushing it a little bit

As for who to pick with pick #12 and #26, I am all for local talents. History has shown us that we can do better in picking up local talents.
I am still thinking we desperately need some classy outside runners that can hit targets inside 50. Lindsay or Reid. I cannot see any local talent at 12 that can do that. Bo Allen to me is a Ginbey 2.0 and although I like Ginbey do we need a second one?

Surely there's no chance Murphy Reid makes it to pick 12, or 15 on the night. He's been ranked within the top ten pretty much all year. I actually hope Bo Allen is available at our pick, can't see any of the top midfielders sliding to our pick
I can see Josh Smillie slipping down a few spots, kind of like Caddy last year, probably not to us, but I would not be surprised to see him go just before our pick, but if he is there at ours we need to take him. I'd be surprised to see Bo Allen make it past Melbourne , they are apparently red hot on him.

Most likely you's will get Taj Hotton I reckon Trainor at 11 and Tauru at 10. Praying our Roo's grab Sam Lalor ;)
You won't have pick 2 on draft night and if you did I would be surprised to see the roos take another mid when your backline is worse than ours , and ours is pretty shit.

Allan really isnt that much like Ginbey at all. Hes a great athlete and a hb/mid but hes far more agile and explosive, and can do more damage with the ball. Ginbey is more defensively minded.

If Hawks miss finals then their F1 is a top 10 pick. Their F1 and F2 could be 10 and 28, that and 26 in 2024 feels like a pretty steep price to pay for pick 8.

We've made our bed to trade into 2025 and I think we should lie in it now.
I think there is far too much value in this first round to not try and get back into it somehow. I think we are banking too much on Warner, next year when we should be focusing on bringing in as many high end 1st rounders as possible. Harley was the right choice last year , we should be getting another gun this year too.

Have to disagree with you on this. He's nearly exactly like Ginbey, Allen is clearly more of a defender than a mid he mostly played as a defender but went into the midfield and delivered about the same output as Ginbey did at the carnival, big, fast , explosive as is Ginbey ... Look at Ginbey and Allen combine results and they are very similar from an athletic profile. Allen is a bit better with his disposal but I cannot see much difference in them at all.

Our f1 + Hawks f1 could secure us Rodriguez and Curtin next year

It would be a poor decision to trade down then try and trade back up and get skimmed twice. Focus on Essendon’s 28 & 31 with our F2s as it suits both clubs and is a nice part of the draft.

This is exactly right. Played some mid at juniors however most of the time in the backline. Can read the play when it's coming at him. Not a see ball, get ball player hence has that weakness in close. Picked up a good long term prospect however not as a mid

I'd throw The F1, F2 and F3 at Richmond to part with pick 10 (they might take that). If you asked me at the beginning of the Barrass cluster**** and we were going to get pick 10 for him I would have taken it.

In some areas yeah sure, but it's around the mark in terms of offensive capabilities.
Not really. Unless you didn't watch Travaglia when he got unleashed at times this year for the Pioneers.
Towards the end of the season Travaglia spent periods in the forward line kicking multiple goals in 4 of the last 8 games he played. Against the Dragons he almost single-handedly took the Pioneers to a win with three goals in the last quarter.
Also whether Duggan was a line-breaker pre-draft is debatable but, outside of a moment or two every few games he really has not demonstrated that ability in a long time. Rarely does he take the game on with the ball tucked under his arm. This is where Tobie thrives, particularly in the second halves of games where he can sprint passed players who are clearly fatigued and cannot keep up with him. Typically this is right through the centre of the ground.
Now Duggan may have had a good (or even elite disposal) at U18s level. He definitely doesn't now.
I think Duggan's football IQ is alright. He is just not quick enough or has good enough foot skills to make use of it.
Also Travaglia is 188cm and aerially elite. Duggan has grown since he was drafted but he has never demonstrated that he has any meaningful aerial prowess. At best he would halve a one-on-one.

Having both Davis and Banfield in the team is far from a bad idea.
