and just an observation..everyone has forgotten about bentick..hes a good footballer..slow..but hard at it which is lacking in a lot of footballers these days..maybe like setanta only being needed to play on the bigger blokes would bentick jsut be used in teams whole slow the game down like sydney just to get into the packs and release the ball to our runners.

also the media been saying judds best is when hes receiving outside the packs..yet hes been having to go in for the hardball himself..to me that sounds like bentick is the perfect combination to have with judd in the side and hes show signs of that when he has played..

With the combination of Hampson, Kruezer and Cloke we have a record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

The only loss was to Geelong.

So very successful system we have going there

I think that, against certain opponents, Setanta is still a valuable player to our side. The only player in our side that has the size and defensive ability to effectively negate a ruckman resting up forward (e.g. Moran and White in the last fortnight).

who held lucas to one goal. who held hawkins goaless. who held westhoff/tredrea to one goal. who held jono brown to 3 goals in 3 and a quarter quarters after brown kicked 3 on waite in the opening term!

i really do think that he is good enough and definitely better than austin who gets easily outmuscled in the contest- perfect example was when moran took 2 contested marks on him= 2 goals. setanta would have spoilt both those times.

Additionally to those who are suggesting his kills are bad, well then you are wrong. He is averaging 75% disposal efficiency. That isn't too bad especially when you compare it to Judd's which is at 71%.

I believe he is our only defender to contain the likes of pavlich, brown, travis cloke, richardson (i know waite beat him but he was injured for most of the game)

Regardless though, he's the type of player that Setanta would be suited to - bigger bodied player who our defenders would struggle against. He'd be the perfect match up for Hale (who I believe could provide a big headache) on the weekend.

The main role I see him playing is on the gorillas. Unfortunately, due to sickness earlier this year, people forget how strong he can be...and how quick for his size he is.

Another thing, with ruckman increasingly being rested in the forward line, if he can bulk up again, he can play on them too. Hale, Kozi's etc. If Waite gets injured, he can play on guys like Riewoldt and Richo. The other backmen we have struggle a little on these types as they are giving away nearly 10cms and struggle to keep up. An injury to Waite or Jamieson and we are in the poo covering these types.

I would be holding on to him for another season or two.

Mate he might be able to play on them in as much as line up on them - but he will no doubt more often than not be beaten by them due to his obvious shortcomings as an AFL footballer...

Why keep somoene on the list for a further two years when they clearly aren't up to the standard and will not improve further. That is simply wasting two years of development that could have gone into someone who actually might be an AFL player unlike Setanta.... Mate simply he can't plat on Richo and Riewoldt and Brown they are classes above him...

The notion of saying Setantas can hold dwon CHB in teh AFL is aas ridiculous as saying C Cloke could be a CHF both absoloute BS.

So he should have high effeciency when he only ever kicks 15m sideways and needs a teammate next to him to point to him where to kick the ball.. He has no idea and simply can't play it is actually embarassing that he is on out list. He is a spud.....

You need to also factor in the goals his mistakes or bad errors in judgement which cost us goals to other players and not just his direct opponent. Half of the blokes you mentioned that he beat are a bit like him i am afraid, good reserves players or are finished.
