Toast The Big 4 all getting over a million people through the gate in season 2023

How is this a surprise to anyone? A league set up to prioritise the interests of these 4 clubs in particular, a mandated Vic Government/MCG rule that dictates that 10 of the top drawing games must be played at their ground, prime time fixturing and stand alone "Blockbuster", plus heavily promoted double up games all aids these figures. All generally played at a ground that has massive virtually "free" access through MCC/AFL membership for those that want to go these AFL endorsed and promoted games. Sure these guys are traditionally are high drawing clubs, but the league does everything in their power to create the absolute most conducive environment for them to thrive.

We get screwed the most from this because the AFL robs us of multiple home games every year and forces us to play them in Melbourne against teams based in Melbourne.

The top end is obvious, I'm actually more surprised at teams like the Lions being so low.

Brisbane are flying, Brisbane always puts on mint weather and sunshine, the Gabba is a venue that they always win at, and they have a decent amount of Melbourne based supporters when they travel here, would have thought they'd be a lot higher.

Would need to know the capacity for home games really, not sure what the capacity is at the Gabba but when the MCG seats drastically more than any other stadium it's going to skew the figures. WCE usually have great attendance (obviously not this year) at home where they're pretty much at capacity every single game.

The Gabba has a capacity of 36k. They're putting up around the 70% capacity as well

Richmond getting over a million through the gate in a year they've been ordinary and had their coach quit mid season is fairly impressive.

Incredibly despite all their recent success the Tigers have never been able to get over 1.2 million through the gate in a season. The Pies have done it 7 times and are about to go over 1.3 million for the second time.

Collingwood have the biggest attendance. The other big 4 clubs basically get their numbers inflated by playing Collingwood twice and getting an extra 40-50K rock up to an away game.

If this was the goal of the AFL, they should have a WA3 & SA3 team so there are another 4 block busters a year. WA3 would then make an extra 10K seats at Optus viable too.

You have a whole state shared between two teams.

That sounds like a huge advantage.

Attendances are a good metric to measure, but don't always paint the correct picture. For instance, Essendon average less than Melbourne for home games attendances. Getting Hawthorn away round 1 as well as Anzac Day pushes them into the top 4.

To be real though, West Coast, Adelaide and Geelong would all sit in the top 5 if they had bigger stadiums.

Collingwood are absolutely airborne at the moment. Numbers are through the roof, and measure up evenon a global scale, but they still will never have the $$ that West Coast have.

It's really simple.

Essendon, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood footy fans are generally complete losers.

Socially stunted, you could say.

So rocking up to the footy every week, rain hail or shine to cheer for the boys is a good time to them.

For most other members of the human race, footy just isn't that important.

Another prime example of why the Gold Coast offer nothing to the league.

Their fans are rubbish.

This coming from a Gold Coast Suns fan. Lol.

No love for the hawks. Only one game against each of the big clubs, so not inflating the figures.
2 games against gws, one of which was at norwood. Club absolutely stinking it up early in the year, and then the 4 games in tassie (yes I know, it's our contract)
You're averaging 4k more than last year and only 1k less than 2019. What were the excuses then?

What a weird reply from someone with 11,000+ posts on a footy forum
