Have much to say?

Whilst most of it was fairly obvious stuff about how great it is to work in an atmosphere like Anfield etc there were some interesting points.

1. Was asked if Carroll was an alcoholic. Reply was about Andy being a Newcastle boy and needing time to adapt to the highly professional club environment at Liverpool (I guess that's saying yes without saying it).

2.Talked about the transfer day issue with Carroll and how crazy it was and that the advice to the club was that he was fine to sign as long as they didn't expect him to play for 6-8 weeks.

3.Mentioned the recent talk of Sylvain Marveaux's failed medical. Said he didn't fail it but there were some concerns and that most likely led to Liverpool reducing their offer and Marveaux preferring Newcastle's longer term, stronger guarantee contract.

4. Asked about Kenny. Reading between the lines, I don't think Kenny is as big on sports science as Woy was. Kenny did a lot more five a side type work and the extra work paid off onfield but led to more injuries, which was always a likely tradeoff.

Edit: SEN said that they're going to put up a podcast of the segment online in the near future.

Ah yep cheers for that, sounds pretty interesting.
Hopefully we can get a few deals done, looking forward how it plays out now being linked with a young French striker Nolan Roux.

Roux looks a lot like a player who recently left us...

He's big, he's red, his feet stick out the bed. Peter Crouch, Peter Crouch!

Was thinking more of a Torres actually

In other news Villa have agreed to sell Downing, catch is it's for $19 Mill

Not a huge fan of Clichy; he has pace and skill but seems to make quite a few defensive errors.

Wouldn't mind Downing, but wouldn't pay £20m for him.

We should be able to get Connor Wickham from Ipswich for about £10m (Sunderland have made a bid but he has his heart set on us).

Both Young & Downing are worth around 15 million IMO, with both coming to the end of their contracts Villa are in no position to play tough over the transfer fee.

I think Clichy is a fantastic player, he is the sort of player that would thrive in a back four with a commanding keeper and strong centre backs. Happy with either Clichy or Enrique at LB. Konchesky can piss off to Wolves.

Downing, I feel, would be amazing for our side. He's shown over his career that he has a lot of quality in his Football. He was a standout last season in a poor Villa side, and I think he'd be the perfect inclusion into the Reds team on the left wing.
20 million would probably be over-paying for him, but if we were able to pick him up for £16/17, I would be all for it

No thanks to 19m. I don't mind overpaying if it gets you a good player but it would mean our last 3 major signings were all in my mind for more than they should of been, the Carrol one was a bit of a different situation but if we keep over paying for players teams will start to make sure we always do and rivals will throw in bids knowing we will spend more just to secure a signature. If Downing really wants to come let him sook about it like most players do these days and if someone else offers 19m they can have him, if not we should get him at his market value of 12-15 million.

19 million is ridiculous. 16 million was ridiculous for Henderson and although the Carroll situation was obviously very different, still ridiculous.

Im hoping this Downing interest is just a smokescreen for our real target, Mata. Mata would fit more with what FSG want to do. Young players, class player, resale value if it doesnt work. Downing doesnt really have resale value if he doesnt work at Liverpool. Im not against signing him, but id rather Mata. And 19 million is just far, far too much!!

We need to start moving people on too. Konch, Jova, Greek, Degen, El Zhar, Maxi, NGog etc etc

when Embers was mentioning the price being why you would bring in Downing ahead of Mata it was hard to disagree. But if you are paying 19m for Downing then you have to seriously consider what you do.

Im hoping the delay in new signings is because Mata hasnt finished the U21's tournament yet.

It's not going well for clearouts though. Yet to sell anyone and we need Jova, Poulsen, Degen, El Zhar, NGog, Aquilani, Insua, Konchesky all out...

We should just take the hit on Aquilani and sell him for the 10 million that Juve are offering, even though they had already agreed a fee with us on the basis of them being happy with him (he was their player of the season , go figure). To piss us off even more they have put in an offer for Raul Meireles that is laughably inadequate, 13.5 million plus Melo. We should not sell Raul at any price one of the very best CM's around. I'd prefer him to Modric.
