My concern in not getting Thiago is that we become very very predictable. I'm no tactics guru but it's common knowledge that our two fullbacks press up the pitch to act as playmakers and our two centre wingers drop back, but stay high, as cover. Imagine Thiago being in the centre adding to this playmaking creativity. TAA on tbe right, Robbo on the left, Thiago in the middle. The opposition would be running around like headless chooks. Man the thought of missing out on this makes me want to cry.

Any Liver fan abusing Gini is no fan.

Btw, anyone see that BBC documentary about the reds? Saw it today. Think it is a 2 or 3 part doco, first part went 90 minutes. Shows the history from Shankly to Klopp.

We've been predictable for a while we're still getting wins..I do still.agrde we need to freshen the squad. Keita and Ox were meant to be Coutinho replacement.

Teams have finally figured us out. So we need a point of difference in midfield. You could see it in the league cup, Arsenal were perfectly comfortable with our midfield until Keita came on. Suddenly a bloke was running with the football, taking players on, dribbling past players, it creates overlaps and panic in defence and we eventually scored.

We need more of that, more creativity from midfield. Thiago would be an excellent signing but again we are stacking in midfield so I think he only comes in if someone leaves.

Can't see us letting Gini go for that low a fee

We'd at least want as much for him as we'll pay for Thiago

Given he only has one year left on his contract, it's not an unheard of fee. That fact knocks off around 20-30 million from his value, if we were to hold out for more money he signs in January for free and walks at the end of the season. The money we get from the potential sale of Gini will help fund Thiago, if the sale goes through I think we'll get Thiago.

Gini is pretty durable

Henderson, Keita, Milner, Ox, Shaq, Lallana all have had injury trouble. Even Fab. Gini's been a rock. Will be missed if he goes but I guess good players need to make way at times if you're going to bring in quality

Fabinho badly rolled an ankle. I think he's pretty durable. Others seem to have muscle injuries.

I don't think we're getting for Gini what we'll need to spend to get Thiago.

I would just point out that as far as "being as big as Manchester United" is concerned, it is 1993 for us. Man U transferred that support into that position of financial strength by winning 12 titles in 20 years. We've won one. And if there had been a world altering event that collapsed the world economy in 1993, that would have made the comparison even more appropriate.

They haven't tapped into that fan base fully yet, and it can't be done overnight after one league title.

But this is my whole point concerning FSG being tight. We definately have the potential to be bigger than United in terms of football generating revenue. But we need some assistance from the owner to make that happen. If we want this current team under Klopp and any future Klopp teams to have even half the success Fergie had, we need some contributions from the club owner from time to time. Whilst numbers such as 700M to 1B are being thrown around concerning City's offer for Messi, we are no closer to knowing what is happening with Thiago. Liverpool's ambition is so much bigger than FSG's capacity that the club has outgrown it. Honestly we should have wrapped up Thiago by now. He should have had his presser, telling us the usual spill about how he wants to win trophies with Liverpool etc, then gotten on with the business of training with the team. All the while, Klopp could have started integrating Thiago into his plans and tactics for the season ahead. But no, cat and ****ing mouse games instead. It's ****en bullshit mate and it all comes down to FSG being tighter than a plankton's ass.

The Brisbane Lions premiership threepeat side of 2001 to 2003 today remains one of the best AFL teams in recent history. But that team fell away quickly after my team beat them in 2004 because they never improved from a position of strength. Leaigh Mathews eeked every last ounce out of that team and then nothing thereafter. It seems Klopp, through no fault of his own, is also eeeking every last ounce out of the team. If Liverpool and FSG keep this up, LFC will face the same fate as the Lions. Brilliant for a couple of years but nothing much thereafter. United, that club you look to as the measuring stick, became the club that it is now known for because it always evolved. It always improved from a position of strength. What have we done to improve the side that won in Madrid in June 2019? Absolutely sweet F all. If we don't get Thiago this window, I will be very concerned about what lies ahead. People on here are calling me crazy, it seems they want the club to rest on its laurels and HOPE that the same squad can deliver another league title, notwithstanding that the opposition are going to improve significantly. But I don't want the club to be resting on its laurels. I can see what's coming from a mile away if we don't improve the side. There is only so much Klopp can do. The old saying in football that a fast player gets slower the longer the game goes yet tall players don't get shorter is sort of relevant here. Klopp and Edwards can only do so much brilliant work before they get overrun with big money from other clubs. Quite simply, Liverpool has outgrown FSG. The club needs an owner that can match its ambition and I'm just here as the messenger to say, that ain't FSG.

Trying to work out who we've got for this Blackpool game.

I think VVD, Gomez, Robbo, Kostas, Neco, Arnold, Grujic, Gini, Woodburn, Wilson, Brewster are on international duty, and Ox, Shaqiri and Kane are injured. (Anyone else?)

Could this be the side vs Blackpool? (If we go with 11 on the bench maybe youth like Gallacher, Norris, Dixon-Bonner, Clarkson etc could get called up)

Mane-Firmino-Salah
Jones-Fabinho-Keita
Milner-Koumetio-Phillips-Hoever
Alisson

Subs: Adrian, Matip, VDB, Henderson, Minamino, Elliott, Origi

The Messi stuff is a mess. He says the clause in his contract that lets him leave for free at the end of any season is valid. Barca say he's past the end of the season because (tough bikkies) the season went past June 30, so the clause cannot be activated. Messi's refusing to turn up to pre-season because that would void his "I leave for free" clause.

Now Gini wants to stay and figure out an extension. I mean I want him to stay but that's annoying haha.

Waits til all this time, then when we figure we gotta move him and replace him he comes back to the table.
I seem to remember one of our journos saying last year, that the issue with the contract negotiations was not so much wages but the length of contract.
This has been suggested again yesterday.

whenever i read something about someone pining to be "bigger than united"

I'd be stoked if we get Thiago, if that means Gini goes out well that sucks a bit.

I become attached to our players, particularly ones who are still very much a part of the side and a positive impact on the side.

I loved Degsy but it was time to go and he really wasn't a great player for us whereas Gini has been huge for us the past four years. So it's a shame if we lose him.

But we can't just bring in Thiago as the logjam will be too much through midfield.
