The Bigfooty NBA Week 17 Thread - "Insane" trade sees Aussie NBA Star Kyrie Irving headed to the Mavericks

I think come finals time KD is another level and your mind will change when it reaches Game 6 of a decider for example

That assumes the Suns get there in the first place.

KD will get through the contract fine. CP3 wont

He might get through it but if hes getting through it only playing 25 games a year then its poor value. Hes only going to get less durable from here not more.

NBA making it upto Paul afrer the declined trade to the Lakers all those years ago.

This is an insane trade for Phoenix and if they win the chip it all be worth every cent.

Picks are just picks and to have a player like Durant to come in with your 3 best players is crazy.

Boston must be shitting bricks.

I know..in 2 years him and KD will be declining and they will have not many draft assets..thats why its a bad trade for mine.

It'd be worth it for a team that's never won a ship as far as I'm concerned. Their cast right now is highly unlikely to get them there so swinging for the fences with KD it's the best shot they have of doing that.

So the nets have Bridges, DFS, Cam Johnson, Crowder, Royce O'neale, Joe Harris.. wing central. Maybe they wish to lend some of those to wing needy teams
For the right amount of picks they will.

It's 4 unprotected firsts. If the deal was sans Bridges I could get my head around it, he's the one that brings it into bend over territory. Those picks are already wild enough for them to send Cam Johnson and keep Mikal (Crowder was a given)

Brooklyn got an amazing haul. Yeah it's KD but it's 34 year old KD who Phoenix might well only get half a season out of before being rooted for the next how many years. Without doubt they need to win it all now and props if they do. There's different levels of selling the future to win now, considering the magnitude of what they gave up and the time frame on what they got back this one is right at the extreme end
Ok wasn't aware of the picks being all unprotected as the details I saw weren't that specific but I mean it's KD still.

Like I said Suns are still in a win now mode and this is the best possible chance they could've given themselves.

Better off going for it all than just sitting back and hoping for the best with what you had.

I dont see why they should swing for the fences if they are going to end up in the dirt instead. KD at his age and durability is likely to fail on the stated aim of championship imo.

Unless someone's coming in with the Mikal is a top 10 player take, then it's wild to be giving Brooklyn it's flowers for going back to it's pre KD form, which at best is a play-in team.

Trading draft picks have basically become a ponzi scheme. OG is commanding 3 firsts, and has never even touched an All-Star appearance. KD was an MVP candidate a month ago. If this goes south for PHX then pull a Booker trade that will net you even more picks + young players. The cycle will just repeat itself.

Mikal is a good dude, and can understand PHX fans being conflicted, but objectively speaking the kind of shot-making, one-on-one advantages and different pnr looks that can put you into contention, makes this a trade I'd make pretty much every day of the week.

Soooooooooo much this, i like Bridges but guys like him are not that hard to get. KD is like 6 tiers above a guy like him, you can go through 6 rebuilds and never sniff a talent like him.

100% ask every owner would they trade 4 1st round unprotected picks and a nice young player for a championship and you'll have every one say yes.

Just rewatching the Mavs game in full and wow

100%

Final judgement on it will come in June. If they managed to hold onto Bridges the deal would have been much less Championship or bust. As it sits now that's where they're at

I honestly have no idea why the Knicks threw in picks in there

Horrible

A straight swap was the fair deal. Losing a 1st rounder is just insane

Josh Hart is so much better than Reddish it's not funny.

Only question on the deal is whether they re-sign him, and for how much. If they can keep him at a reasonable rate, then trading pick 18 or pick 20 for him really shouldn't be a problem. Cam Reddish's value was a poor second round pick, at best.

gotta love the nba with the players diva dramas. one more big trade please, i wanna be blindsided.

I haven't watched raps closely but is OG that good for teams to give up multiple picks?

Beautiful stuff this Son of Skeletor

They already had an intra-divisional rivalry brewing with us, and an interesting tete-a-tete with the Dubs last May.

Seem determined to put a bullseye on their back for twelve other teams in the conference. Interesting choice, to say the least.

Honestly i don't think so

Elite defender that can shoot the 3 but i don't really want him doing anything else on offence and he is apparently looking for a bigger role. 3 picks just sounds like a ton but the current market is cooked so maybe i am overvaluing the picks.
