Another possibility - could it have been a family member who did have a conscience and wanted LW to be free of suspicion

Or....If it was I don't think it worked.
Her underwear held not just Ciara's DNA nearly three years later but the same fibres that were used to convict BRE, so I think it was BRE who must have left them there. What sent him there with them imo had elements of arrogance, contempt and disrespect not just towards Ciara but a message to the police 'Here, you weren't even looking for these ... idiots.'
Or....
He wanted some media attention. Liked people talking about him.... which (if the case) meant he probably followed BF, WS and other threads dedicated to the CSK.
Leaving the underwear at the gravesite was such a risky act, he seemingly had a strong desire to go there, gained some sort of sexual gratification, it was probably exciting for him, reliving what he'd done. Shows he had strong urges to relive the moment. If he was toying with the police yes he could have left something else. The underwear was personal. That too possibly, agree.
He could have left something a bit more obvious the police had promoted through the press that he'd stolen though, jacket or handbag, keys. Underwear that ostensibly nobody was even looking for imo held a message. Imagine being on MACRO when those were found, their heads would have been exploding.
Working within the police force must have been very difficult. What a let down, watching colleagues doing whatever they want, with no repercussions. I can only imagine management ignoring matters that are reported too. I suppose some officers who had something on another colleague, probably used it to their advantage. Thinking someone who reports something would be forever outed. Its not just serial killers LAM, it was the toxic culture, the corruption and the disjointed nature of the entire organisation that appears foremost to be in issue here & thats across the spectrum that is crime solving in WA. Page 205+ tells of the "secret" report the Schramm Review provided to KOK directly and that says it all about the way investigations & processes were handled. Scattered through prior pages speak to all manor of uncovered corrupt behaviours and inappropriate methods of coercion deemed to get results by the police force. These methods continue today for various groups of people considered to be "criminals" or whom are shown prejudice based upon their colour, race, lifestyle choices or whatever else it may be.
Our police force's motto "Protect & Serve" is little more than an obscene joke to many. Its a shame those that know about that better than most either don't have a voice that is listened to, or they flatly refuse to choose to make use of their voice & would be likely ridiculed & labeled as untrue if they did.
I have learnt some truths over the years about their operations that has been very difficult for me to accept, mainly because it goes against everything I was brought up to believe about police. Things Mr Average Joe wouldnt believe either if they were alerted as to their ways. I used to jump up & down screaming "but they cant do that to you, we all have rights". I now accept they can and will do whatever the hell they want to & they will always get away with it. Lying about things is just par for the course.
What's your point? Is anyone answering these questions on the 10000th Claremont thread
We don’t know if he did repress his urges. Marriage may have helped somewhat. But judging by all his crimes I’d suggest it’s very possible that he offended again. Especially if he’s the one responsible for any of the crimes in Huntingdale as a teenager. That reflects strong urges from a young age.Leaving the underwear at the gravesite was such a risky act, he seemingly had a strong desire to go there, gained some sort of sexual gratification, it was probably exciting for him, reliving what he'd done. Shows he had strong urges to relive the moment. If he was toying with the police yes he could have left something else. The underwear was personal.
The dates of the visits are what's interesting, which were prior to the second marriage. A bit like, someone who's having their last moments, prior to marriage. Once he'd met wife 2 he stopped the killings, a bit like it dawned on him he had a huge problem, probably took a look at the situation. A new family was what he'd always wanted, so put the past behind him - made a fresh start.
He somehow managed to repress his urges. Perhaps a doctor prescribed some medication.
Narcissists don't like other people getting credit for their work so in regards to maybe taking the heat off of LW it would not be out of compassion but rather out of self glorification...Is it possible that BRE left the item at KK in order to take the heat off Lance Williams?
I don’t want to give BRE credit for anything. But the police surely would have thought that Lance Williams would have been unlikely to have dropped it off, given the frequent surveillance that he endured. Or was his surveillance ceased by that stage?
It was probably BRE toying with the police, or a sick ego trip. But it would have conceivably effected the direction of the investigation.
One article we must have missed in the searches was the Daily News 17 Feb 1988 when the police were linking the Victoria Clark murder to the Huntingdale attack. The moniker they gave him was 'The Nightie Rapist'.
'Extremely fit' - did some one chase him to find this out??I can't find any reference to this article on the internet.
I'm not sure that the State Library WA or anywhere has microfiche or digital archives of the Daily Mail for 1998.
According to Bret Christian, the (Perth) Daily News newspaper also labelled the 'Nightie Rapist', 'the Huntingdale weirdo'.
‘The man is so brazen, he sometimes stands on the road wearing a nightie, waving to women to look out of their windows,’ reported the evening Daily News on February 17, 1988. The paper said he was the kimono attacker and labelled him the Huntingdale weirdo. Police called him the Southside Rapist.
Christian, Bret. Stalking Claremont (p. 270). ABC Books. Kindle Edition.
'Stolen silk kimono: ‘Nightie rapist stalks suburb,’ Bill Power, Daily News, February 17, 1988. The report stated that a tall, lanky man who wears women’s nighties and was extremely fit was terrorising Huntingdale, ‘so brazen he sometimes stands on the road in a nightie waving at women looking out of their windows’. He collected women’s nightwear and underwear from clotheslines and from the owners’ bedrooms, the report said.'

That doesn't necessarily make him fit just bloody scared of being caught! I'm not fit at all, but have flew over a fence with just one hand on it to stop this young undesirable chatting up my 14 yo daughter!! ( I became quite a legend with my charges at the youth center for this- they couldn't believe their eyes.)Yes, he was chased by a man and jumped straight over a fence in his nightie.
His fitness might have been mostly due to the cumulative result from all the exercise when BRE was running and cycling around his local hunting/stalking/breaking and entering grounds, to and from his actual crime scenes and other locations/properties he was casing out and sizing up.'Extremely fit' - did some one chase him to find this out??

As his escapades were quite prolific, I can't believe his parents or some one didn't catch on.That he didn't seem to be afraid of being seen over and over, he was so brazen that he was breaking into people's houses when they were at home and 'terrorizing' the neighbourhood means imo he was really confident in his physical abilities.
The police had also received a cluster of reports describing a man wearing a nightie standing on the road 'who appeared to be very fit'.
Well fitting nighties? The police had also received a cluster of reports describing a man wearing a nightie standing on the road 'who appeared to be very fit'.

Maybe one or more of them remembered the Kimono, was specifically looking for the Kimono, could not find the Kimono and other South Side Rapist, & Huntingdale related artefacts, and decided to go looking for them in all the other evidence boxes from around that locale that they might have been put in.Still doesn't explain exactly why detectives from State Ops on the CSK case even looked into the evidence box of the solved van Tongeren arson crimes when they were supposed to be there looking at the unsolved sex crimes stuff.
hmmmm?
You're probably right about one or two of them remembering a kimono was dropped back in 1988. Might have been one of the original police who'd been looking for BRE, back in 1988 or the few years beforehand.Maybe one or more of them remembered the Kimono, was specifically looking for the Kimono, could not find the Kimono and other South Side Rapist, & Huntingdale related artefacts, and decided to go looking for them in all the other evidence boxes from around that locale that they might have been put in.
