The Burden of the 3 Losses have Disappeared

12 wins a year? Does that get you a flag or prelim? Surely over 5 YEARS we might have improved somewhat into a top four team instead of a bottom 6 team. You set the bar too low for these guys.

Have I?

I'd rather draw parallels with the time when Balme joined Geelong, but I prefer not to make outlandish statements, as I said.

Good post. I think a lot of our problem was mental. Behind the game we see, players and there whole families
How is that a dig? Try reading it again before losing it because Dimma's name was mentioned. :$
wow if you think that is losing it princess ya need to harden up a little;)

Says you who had a sook about poor Dimma's name being mentioned lmao.

That abortion of an umpiring job in RD 2 which robbed us of a win was where our 2016 season was knocked on the head IMHO.

Not the NAB game against port?

I think the problems started, when the Club as a collective got too over hydrated from the copious amounts of bathwater being drunk down at the joint. There was tons of back slapping after the Club achieved not much but ticked off the internal KPI's and then it was just assumed it was all going to fall in to place on the back of stability. Taking all that in to account, it's must have been a real shock when reality came knocking.

Correct you only need to look at their strategic plan 2015-2018 to see they ticked off all their KPIs even though the plan was produced late 2016 they achieved their 2015 aims

Sooking now lol. Must be very sensitive in your world. If you really want to know i was just giving you a bit of a nudge, you did have the little tongue out emoji. Was kind of hoping you might throw it back but i guess your a little too sensetive for that ;)

Not the NAB game against port?

If we beat Collingwood, we would've been 2-0 and made Treloar look like an idiot. Remember Cotchin getting in his face with 10 minutes to go? It would have been an immensely satisfying start to the season and vindicated our decision to put pressure on ourselves to start the year off well.

It was one of many points that piled on the pressure at the club, and that was probably the one that was too much for some of us. It's hard to speak on behalf of everyone of course. Trent was actually at his best during this part of the season, he arguably handled the pressure the best.

Whether we point to the anxiety surrounding injuries in the Port NAB game, the loss to Collingwood and the Treloar story and discussion of our list (at a time when Yarran was supposed to be our only improvement to the list), it was all in the shadow of those 3 finals losses.

And that shadow has now disappeared.

So looking forward, I don't think that Port game matters, or the Collingwood game, or any of those individual moments that contributed to the pressure... it was the 3 successive finals losses that made those moments mean so much in the first place. In 2017, we'll have moments of pressure, but they won't be compounded by the 'win a final' doubts.

We're back to that 2013 feeling where just making the finals will feel like a positive movement, but this time we'll have a greater sense of entitlement to win finals. It's the world of difference.

Dont agree 1 bit.
Make finals this year and the pressure will be on more than ever. We have the pressure of losing 4 finals.

The pressure is on already Hardwick guaranteed finals , so they will have to learn and cope

Don't agree at all that it was a burden , the club failed in addressing the failure and resetting things from that point. We weren't forward thinking enough other than go all out for motlop, Treloar , Hartlett . Other than that it was business as usual with the same model that proved to be NQR whilst everyone else breezed past us. I repeat it had FA to do with any burden , we ****ed up in not changing things up. 12 months on and we have , time will tell

What's the point in the players even going to pre-season training if the finals are guaranteed. They could be in their yachts in the Caribbean sipping on cocktails.

I don't buy into this mental burden crap.

If you are a good enough player playing a good enough game plan then you will win. A good enough player is just that because he is not just talented but mentally tough. We haven't had enough players with the mental toughness to push themselves to the point of exhaustion and beyond in order to win. Maybe they are just not good enough or they just don't believe in the game plan well enough to push themselves to that level. Something has been amiss for quite some time.

It was clear watching the finals series that our low tackling game plan will not even beat an egg in that situation. The corralling from 10m away is just so soft that opposition teams must think they are on holidays when they play us. I blame the coaching staff for that. That must change immediately.

I am hoping with new assistants and the addition of quality players in Prestia and Caddy, we can lift our intensity to the point where we can at least put consistently high pressure on opposition rather than doing that once or twice a year (first game against Sydney and Bulldogs in 2016). I once again hope but I won't be holding my breath.
