I imagine we are going to want to make calls one way or the other on gov, mcdonald, curnow before the mid season draft. Cant really afford to have all 3 unavailable until late in the year. If one of them is seen as less likely to be back this season I think we just need to put them on the LTI list so we can draft coverage.

What decent KPP are avail to draft? How is BSOS going? Cripps Jr? etc...
We signed Jessie Glass-McCasker to our Carlton VFL side.. would be a smooth transition if so

Not sure what's happened to BSOS. Kicked 3 in the Bullants first game but hasn't been seen since.

And then we draft 2 x players in the MSD & they’re both out for the season within ~3 weeks of being signed up. FU’d luck last season.

I think he injured.
Looked on Bullants team sheet last weekend and not played.

Glass-McCasker looks a no brainer if we have more than one pick in MSRD as he can help in ruck and key back too and played with some of our boys.

We can always hope for David King's mid-season trade period theory to get some legs (was on First Crack this week).

He was suggesting it as a way for the likes of WC to get an early jump on their rebuild, trading players like McGovern, Gaff, Shuey etc for first rounders. Admittedly, he was talking about clubs in the "window" for this year, but if there was a KPD out there and they weren't first rounder worthy, surely we'd be in the market?

I think a mid-season trade period almost has more merit than the MSRD.

Think there room for both.

Oh sure, I didn't mean the MSRD should go, I just meant that a team is more likely to be able to get a ready-to-go player from a mid-season trade period. Hell, I wouldn't even mind just moving the trade period from the end of the season to mid-season - do it during a bye week.

Greg Wells came to us via an in season trade agreement in 1980 when I was a little kid, so I have no issue with re-visiting those days. I think we cleared Catoggio and Michael Young to Melbourne at later stage as part of the deal.

I've been annoyed at the medias handling of the Horne v Sos incident at the weekend.

Seems the narrative is that JHF was standing up for his teammates to SOS who was calling them sh**, when in reality SOS was remonstrating with a kid who cheap shotted him after he disposed of the ball.

The boy was even given the rising star nom afterwards despite Carroll quite obviously playing better.

It's annoying to see a very obvious media spin like this.

As I said in another thread, the Rising Star has always been an cumulative nomination for the most part. JHF with a very good seven weeks. Carroll will get one eventually.
I think you've got that backwards.

The weekly Rising Star nomination is for a stand out performance that week. At the end of the year, when deciding who should actually be recognised as the official Rising Star for that year, they assess the entire year's performances (ie. the cumulative total of the player's body of work).

There is even some sort of scoring system isn't there? A bit like a B&F.

Ahhh, no. It's a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 vote by each judge reflecting their personal ranking of the 5 best nominees from the year.

Standout performances do get rewarded, but it's very common for a top line rookie to be rewarded for an extended period of good form, which has happened here with JHF, or even Rachele in the loss vs the Bombers.

Makes for quite interesting reading.
We're mid-ladder for scores against, but worryingly we're 17th at scoring ourselves.
It doesn't say whether we're getting fewer shots on goal during this time, or whether we're less accurate. Number of inside 50's during that time would help too. Might point to where we're falling away at the end of quarters.
