Would you rather what they did in South Korea?

i thought they were just amazed at the last goal.

I actually just checked the pictures, not sure what the fuss is about, all are fully clothed, are practising social distancing and have face masks on, they aren’t the sex dolls that many are thinking of.

Let’s hope AFL don’t do those stupid cardboard cut out crowds. The Neanderthals at the NRL had one of Hitler in the stands

It’s amateurish anyway. Ridiculous idea in the first place. Nothing wrong with “empty stands” meaning completely empty.

Surely we have enough money and resources to create realiatic CGI type crowds instead of the silly cardboard cutouts.

Probably don't need to do it for Norf home games though, playing in empty stadiums maintains the status quo for the Roos :)

And then hit them again .. just to make sure they remembered the first one ;)
Bloke elbowed me in the jaw one day. In the next bit of play, I bumped him from the line he was on running along the boundary into the fence, causing his kick to go out of bounds. He didn't do it again.

Bet you we don't, as it's happened for centuries. Coaches like Clarkson, Scott, Hardwick get their sides 'to do' things with the umpires assistance - don't ask me how - but I doubt Teague will. Let's review after one of our guys gets 6+ weeks (G Williams / C Judd style) - shall we? :thumbsu:
'Woe is me'.

We cannot affect what the umpires do or how the tribunal sees our players or their actions onfield. What we can affect is how well we perform around them, and hope things improve. But then, I'm bloodyminded enough to want to prove a point to an opposition that tries to bully my team then dives for a free when it's retaliated. If you're going to accentuate head high contact, I'm going to actually take your head off so you - and the umpire - knows the difference.

Yes you can and other teams do. Fact and if you don’t accept it, that is your issue not mine.

Gethelred

Just on the Dustin incidents....wtf were the umpires doing? The only thing our players would have done is given away a free kick in the end as being the 2nd person in. Again what were the umpires looking at and why has the tribunal review not addressed this? Just not good enough!!!!

I'm not repeating myself again, but maybe you should read my initial post again, and answer me how we all see it. as clear as day, and raised it multiple times during the time, but it seems the umpires and the tribunal dismissed both indiscretions? Maybe you can elaborate without the snide remarks.....

... you read my response to that post, yeah? I replied directly to it.

The umpires and the tribunal dismiss such things from good players/teams because of whatever reason you want to choose at the time of viewing. Sometimes they're blind (and, in my follow-up post, you would know I suggested ensuring that the retaliation occurred when the umps aren't looking or is legal in general play but a mite harder than standard), sometimes they let it slide, sometimes they pay a free or two. It's a well known fact that marquee players get treated differently by the umpires and the tribunal. I haven't disputed you there.

What I've advocated in the past is a lot of different things, none of which I'll go into here. If you fancy discussing them, shoot me a PM so we don't retread old ground in this thread. But ultimately we can't change what the umpires do with our behaviour, short of playing for frees ourselves, and that's not a position I want us to take. We can't affect their behaviour, so let's improve as a team and see where that gets us before loudly and publicly having a whinge.

Just a shame Derm had to turn it into a discussion about Hawthorn at the end.
He's not there anymore...fu** off Derm

I didnt mind Derm talking about the hawks- its nice to be in the same conversation as one of the greatest teams of all time. Loved how he was connecting harrys groins with Bourgoynes recovery

Go on, then. Explain to me how you can affect someone else's actions short of holding a gun to their head.

You've gone full Ben Shapiro there - :)
At least Ben endeavours to highlight facts ahead of emotion, which isn't always easy as that's often too much work for most.

Forget the secretive PM's and give us your views. I for one am interested.

That's funny. I have a little bit.

Flying in fear of going outrageously off topic, no he doesn't at all. I've got a rather lengthy rejoinder to this, but there's a good to decent chance this stuff will either be deleted or moved anyway. Suffice to say, I'm not Shapiro's biggest fan, and for someone whose motto is 'facts don't care about your feelings' he seems to get a bee in his bonnet about rather a lot of things in an illogical way, generally covering it up by speaking incredibly fast and doing more or less what you've pointed out I did.

Forget the secretive PM's and give us your views. I for one am interested.
More, that I've gone over this stuff in other conversations. Changing the way umpires and players interrelate, minimizing contact between them that isn't actively paying a free kick. Turning umpires into custodians of the rules. Changing the way things are divided between the tribunal and the umpires to penalise diving and playing for free kicks, whilst allowing umpires to pay the frees on the day without fear. Professionalising umpiring, and training them together.

I talk loudly and often enough about these things. There's zero chance others haven't read at least one of my long winded rants about one of these things before, and having been told that I do go on I'm trying to be better.

Come on Gethelred ..... Don't be shy. :)

I think you're capable of pushing consensus views and something often sorely missed across these platforms.

EDIT - I see you've replied. Look forward to the read. Good on you.
EDIT 2 - Trying to be better for who? Who has told you to hold back and why? Don't allow yourself to be drawn into it. Big mistake.

Last year.

And it's a bit depressing to put a lot of thought into a post only to have a few people respond with "I'll read the essay tomorrow" when they're completely serious and not trying to be offensive.

And I'll post about stuff like this if and when it comes up, and it will come up. This board - indeed, this site - is nothing if not cyclical.

Andrew Russell mentioned to have "run in" to a few of the Carlton boys on a public oval during the lockdown period on FC and was talked to by the AFL.

Hello darkness my old friend..

And apparently we've made changes to senior roles in recruiting, and have failed to communicate that with members

We've dropped the ball massively
