These players should not be at the Lions in 2011:

Austin
Collier
Hanley
Johnstone
McCulloch
Proud
Selwood
Stiller

Injuries, non development and non application to their careers are just some of the queries I have on these players.

Others deserve to be on my cull list, but I'll refrain from placing them on it for now as they are fairly new to the Lions. These include:

Buchanan
Clarke

Even though 2010 seems to be unraveling, our younger players give me great confidence for the future. The 10 players below will take our club to the top, but the list cloggers need to be broomed out the door so the list grows from 10 to 16-18 over the next 3/4 years when the likes of Brown, Black, Power, Fevola, Charman retire.

Banfield
Bartlett
Clark
Hawksley
Leuenberger
O'Brien
Polkinghorne
Redden
Rich
Rockliff

The core group of 24-28 year olds is still fairly strong, but no real superstars have developed out of them:

Adcock
Brennan
Drummond
Maguire
McGrath
Merrett
Patfull
Sherman

Please discuss :thumbsu:

i think harwood and golby will be good players for us in the future as well. dont see the ressies play being from melbourne but what about players like mcauley, a-corn, barry, yoshi & retzlaff?

Bit harsh on Clarke seeing he hasn't played a game. I wouldnt get rid of Johnstone either. He's been good this year despite getting dropped. Definitely has a place in the side

I would keep Proud too for now. With an extended period of time in the team he could be a gun.

Thought the same thing mate when I saw him in a pre-season game against North in 2009 - unfortunately, my gut tells me this will be his best game in a Lions jumper :(

Clarke hasn't even played a game for the Lions and you are writing him off:mad::thumbsdown:

For me:

Johnstone - highly paid and with a reputation better than he is. Has been dropped multiple times in both years to date and that looked to continue this year. Sometimes having the extremely talented but sulky guys on your team brings down the whole team. Gone

Buchanan - didn't agree with his acquisition at the beginning of the year and nothing has changed my mind. Adds nothing to our side and just keeping a young guy from getting experience.

Selwood - can't get a shot in the first team despite us playing so badly. That says it all. No spot for him next year.

Charman - will enjoy life on the Gold Coast mentoring Smith. McCauley looking like a very good third ruck at a fraction of the price. Time to give the young guys a go.

Collier - I had high hopes for Tom but he has failed to show that he is capable of playing at AFL level. Chances are that he will go.

Proud - another who has not been able to translate his game into the AFL arena. The last two years have been filled with off-field issues which have likely affected his game but he has been given a fair go and its likely time to let someone else have a crack.

Rischitelli - I still think he will be the GC poached recruit from the Lions.

After such a big turnover of players last year I would be reluctant to cut too many and try to build some team spirit through a bit of continuity. I would also be trying to get in a match day coach with a bit of tactical acumen to be an assistant. Alternatively one of the younger recently retired guys who are looking to get into coaching. Perhaps Kirk.

Time to unload some of the higher paid players & go for 2 genuine pacy midfielders.

Mitch Clarke: 1 good year & now the same old injury prone bloke. Brain explosion earlier this year was a very bad sign. Offload time.
Justin Sherman: the cause of too many turnovers, suicide handball specialist. We need pace with brains.
Jed Adcock: sadly too many injuries have ravaged young Jed & now plays like an old man.
Selwood: No explanation needed.

This would free up some $ space to keep Risca, Brennan & add a couple of pacy rovers.

Time to trade Rich too. Hasn't shown enough this year.

Brown should go as well. Injury prone and too slow.

Nah Brownies ok & you've got to be a fool to want to trade Rich. If your opinion differs on my mentioned players. Compere any of my traded players to Banfield / Rich. The Club needs 2 more like them; then we can give it a rattle. I mean compere Banfield to Adcock, Sherman or Sellwood. Banfield is in another class; so is Rich. :thumbsu:

I fail to understand if this is a joke or you a being serious:eek:

Charman
Buchanan
Proud
Raines

First on my list.

Collier
Austin
Hanley
Selwood

All potentials. Age could save them.

Johnstone

Potential. Age will not save them.

Although everyone thinks their players will equal Robert Harvey's output, Black and Power will always be potential retirees each year from here on in.

All I can say is thank God we picked Rockliff instead of Nick Davis and steered clear of Cousins and Street. We would have been in even more of a mess.

'Young' Jed Adcock is turning 25, has never really delivered, is very slow, injury-prone, often gives one effort at an unrealistic tackle then lies on the ground, can't kick over a jam tin, always takes the safe option rather than take the game on, doesn't chase, doesn't create with run, gets beaten one-on-one on most occasions, has not improved in his seven seasons at the club (has got worse if anything), and is on money way beyond what his achievements deserve.

Added to this, he is viewed as a leader because he is demonstrative on the field telling others what to do, often when he should have done more himself.

He must be a good bloke, because he seems immune from criticism despite being an absolute passenger most weeks. Travis Johnstone only has to look tired or lethargic in one chase or miss a tackle and he gets hammered unmercifully.

Adcock is a list clogger and should be moved on.

You guys are kidding right?

Collier - When the kid came to the Lions he had one of the best 3km time trials. He spent the next 2 years putting on weight to become a KPP and now is only just getting his endurance back so give the kid a year

Hanley - The kid needs to play AFL, Im sorry but QAFL just doesnt cut it. You will be able to tell if he can play once he strings a few games together but until then you just can't make a call

Johnstone - I just dont get why we cut this guy, sure he sometimes lack in def pressure but he gets 20-25 poss. Why do we have guys like Austin in the team when they dont have def pressure and they dont start anything either. I dont get it

McCulloch - The guy hasn't played yet hahaha. 1 year and you wanted to cut him? This is just stupid. This guy is coming to the club with the word that he was the next dean cox with the way he was able to move around the ground.

The rest either need to be given 3-4 games in a row to make a decision or dropped. You cant just keep giving guys 1 game here 1 game there and send them back to QAFL where you can score 247 points (or however much it was) against another team.

Mitch Clarke: 1 good year & now the same old injury prone bloke. Brain explosion earlier this year was a very bad sign. Offload time.

Think you had a brain explosion there. And I am not sure if you mean Mitch Clark or Xavier Clarke? For gods sake could people PLEASE start spelling our players names right. PLEASE!....

Nah Brownies ok & you've got to be a fool to want to trade Rich.

See below

I fail to understand if this is a joke or you a being serious:eek:

(For once!) I agree with Lionshine - are you seriously being serious?

Cull....

Charmo...love the big guy, but body is not up to the rigours of afl
Johnstone....not good enough....demons got rid of him and we picked him up...inconsistent
Buchanan.....not afl standard
Raines...not afl standard
Stiller.....not afl standard

on severe notice

Selwood
Proud

Don't know about that, the bloke is 24 and has defiantly delivered this year after 1 or 2 injury plagued seasons.

sorry, u must be watching another raines then.....seriously, his turnover rate is high, he has poor skills

misses targets on handballs
misses targets by foot

he is a major liability....if he is so good why the heck didn't richmond keep him???? enough said

he would never in a million years get a gig with collingwood/geelong

a poor mans dalziell without the hard running
