Toast The Curious Case of Jack Darling

I've always backed Darling in the sense that he is always performing, but people needed to lower their expectations. This imo is him at nearly his best, it's his perfect role, contested marks, good chasing, handing goals off.

He isn't a 10 goal a game player and I don't expect him to "take a game by the scruff of the neck" as some call it.

He's a walk up start in every team in the league, one of the best forwards in the competition as a second fiddle focal point and he'll eventually get a game of 6-8 goals but it will not be the norm I'd imagine.

If 6-8 was the norm he would be the greatest that ever laced up boots. Just casually kicking 150 a season

Kennedy is a 2 x coleman medalist and obviously a great FF but i feel the eagles lads play far better when kennedy is playing up the ground and darling is playing a true FF role, there doesn't seem to be the space incursions happening constantly. Get the feeling kennedy loves to get off the chain a bit and come up the field. Darling playing close to goal worries the hell out of defenders especially if they are the 2nd/3rd stringer and they often infringe.

If Kennedy had kicked an easy snap and a set shot from 45 on a slight angle on Sunday, he'd have a bag. We can't underestimate his ability to kick goals from anywhere when playing forward (if it's not at the G).

But, at the moment Darling is definitely fitter and more confident taking grabs. We devised a plan at 1/4 time to have Kennedy drawing defenders off of the contest, freeing up Darling to take the primary role. As the game became a see-saw of turnover goals and opened up in the forward halves, both worked in tandem.

I reckon the main issue is our lack of a true crumber, which would take some of the burden off our talls. I'd like to see Rioli getting to more contests; not floating around the attacking wing and HFF for the give (almost had 2 clutch goals, though).

Flood gates will open soon for Rioli

The real question however, is...

Are you as slow as slow slow Cole?

Old slow cole was a slow old soul and a slow old soul was he

He called for the fyfe and fyfe called for his mum and kicked a behind or three

Umps ump umps umps said the purples
And merry old men - not we

Cos theres none so fine with a football mind as an incel football team

Very good

Darlings playing great and all credit to him. It’s because he has lifted his work rate, effort and application significantly since last season and that has been the reason he’s playing great. It was never about goals kicked it was about giving up on influencing the contest when he can’t mark it, but now he spoils it and not falling over with the slightest contact.

If this jack keeps turning up, he could be top 5 bnf and possible AA.

Jack has been playing out of his skin for one reason only.....

He is secretly reading Big Footy forums.

I think fatherhood is agreeing with him. Seems to have gotten better since having a little 'un.

Maybe he just wants to be a superstar for his kid?

He's always had a good workrate. Those that criticized him for going to ground at times or throwing the head back had a point but the effort was always there

>coleman medalist
>2nd tall who would be good enough to be #1 in another side
>young tall who has shown a lot of potential and won a rising star nomination

>2nd young tall in the WAFL kicks 5 goals
>2 more young talls who've just arrived at the club, some of the highest rated players in the last draft

and of course, the wondrous elusive workhorse
