You're comparing apples and oranges, Richmond play in an equalised competition where the point is that teams have a chance and only bad luck and poor management prevent that. For example, Melbourne (currently the team with the worst prospects in the AFL) are maybe 5 years from competing in finals, Queensland are an entire generation away.

Huh? This year a QLD team was 1 point away from a finals berth..? Definitely a lot closer than what you're willing to give credit for. I highly doubt it'll be a 12 year wait like the one that Richmond supporters had to endure.
