Flukey, as I said earlier in this thread this may be so, but it still depends on ASADA connecting the banned substances to a specific player in the first place.

As Argy said ASADA needs to be comfortably satisfied a player has taken a banned substance.

Reports today suggest that this has been proven beyond reasonable doubt by ASADA.
That should be game, set and match.

I think if the interim report is anything to go by they are in trouble. Someone was reporting the other day about the possibly penalties and it looked possible, not probable, that they could whittled down to about 6 months. I think that involved the players ratting on each other or other staff members to get leniency. I think the AFL will be working with Essendon to make sure this happens somehow.

If the AFL do this and put that penalty in place in the off season, this whole process would serve as a mockery to the system. One good thing to come is that I think this may be the final straw for Vlad. I don't think he will be around much longer. it has been a smelly last few years under his dictatorship leadership. Most other high profile leaders in the business sector would have been given the ultimatum well before now with what has gone on in the AFL.

Under WADA and ASADA regulations penalties cannot be served in the off season. So thankfully such a farse could not happen. They might get '14 weeks' like Kurt Tippet though ;).

I just want to see James Hird suspended.

And the Bombers players suspended.

And draft picks taken away. Its like Carlton, great to see those clubs who cheated suffer.

IMO Essendon supporters are arrogant.

If the league do as most people say and ban Essendon from the finals - could Essendon go through the courts and appeal to prevent that from happening??

If they could that would set up the scenario that a 9th placed Carlton would be elevated to the 8 only to be pushed out again by court action. This would cause a shitestorm the likes of which football hasn't seen.

This is has the potential to go even more pear shaped than it is now.

Also if under the rules of WADA 20 Essendon players get a 2 year ban where does that leave the competition in 2014???

You would think that part of Essendon's punishment would be that they wouldn't be allowed to participate in the draft - so where are they going to get the players to top up their list to field a team???

This in turn has massive ramifications for the broadcasting rights - as a makeshift team weaker than GWS in their first year isn't going to provide a return for broadcasters. All at a time when the code will be challenged by the international spectacle of a soccer world cup where Australia will be participating.

The AFL is going to take a massive hit all because of the actions of Hird and Dank

That's awesome....... I couldn't have picked two better clubs for this to happen too....Please please let it happen. :)

Ha ~ good point.

Essendon will only be stripped of points if Carlton finish ninth .. The hit to the pocket isn't as bad then ...

If North finish ninth Essendon are in !!

Essendon may well take legal action or at least threaten to. However, they will also weigh up what it will do to their brand in the longer term. If they take legal action and hopelessly compromise the final series Essendon will become a pariah in the football community despised by all opposition club supporters. How many potential sponsors would want to be associated with a club that is loathed.
In a commercial world wiser heads will prevail Essendon will take their lumps, be contrite and move on.

However the cleansing process will require the heads of the main protagonists including Hird. Those individuals have nothing more to lose by taking legal action but the Essendon Football Club would be absolutely stupid not to acquiesce and distance the organisation from the scandal as soon as possible.

Not sure how it goes legally but common sense would dictate
ASADA / WADA - "you have given 20 doses of Thymosin and 11 of those were Beta 4"
Essendon - Yes sir but sorry we are not sure which ones were Beta 4
ASADA / WADA - OK, until you can identify who the 11 were, all of the the players given Tymosin will be banned.

Amazing that due to Essendons poor management or more likely their fantastic shredding and destruction abilities that they may get their lying, cheating arses out of it.
The case of the amateur footballer who was banned shows that all it takes is a suspicion that the drug might have been used. On that basis all eleven should be banned.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at although it would be all 20, If Essendon could not identify the actual players that they doped.

I do not buy the shit the scum are selling. They are trying to say we were a rabble and had no idea what was going on. Bollocks, they knew what they were doing and have done as much as possible to hide it. Hird, Thompson and anyone else left should be sacked from the game. The amount of shit they are causing the league will not be going down well with the Dictator.

And isn't that a good thing?
Essendon needs to be a strong club so that the competition is more interesting, the crowds are bigger and the AFL make more money. What does it matter that they take a few performance enhancing drugs?

Jobe Waston was pretty ordinary and now he's a star of the competition.

A few PED's can only help the Bombers to be great again.

Finally the truth, the scum will be hit with a wet lettuce leaf, the AFLs only concern in this whole saga is how income will be effected , money rather than morals or doing the right thing is the guiding principle of how the AFL operate in regards to everything.

Yes, whilst they were spending tens of millions of $$$ on their new training grounds and the flight path program, they couldn't even keep basic records.
Surely the AFL/ASADA have a rule that if records are sub par, you will get massive penalties somewhat equal to doping anyway, just to avoid cheaters not keeping decent records!
Little bit like refusing a breath test.

Radio reports that the Huns mark stevens has found out that the AFL is going to throw the book at the scum, loss of all points, fines and draft penalties, lets hope so, stay tuned by this afternoon or tommorow morning this will all over the news.

Exactly!! I think if there is evidence that there was a doping program in place it should be up to the club to prove who WASN'T involved. Otherwise you can do what Essendon are doing and say "Sorry our records about what our players are on are a little sketchy at the moment, so we don't know who took what".

That way they can't penalise anybody as they don't know who to penalise. In what f*cking world is that a valid reason for people to get out of sanctions???

Enter some law firm making a squillion bucks as the Dons further drag the greatest game on earth into the mud. They will do this to try and keep this season alive for them. With the possible penalties they may be irrelevant for the next 10 - 15 years. That is sad for footy in a way but if you want to go down this path you HAVE to accept the penalties for the greater good of the game. This whole thing started with Essendon being so arrogant and egotistical and it may end the same way.

I know they are a big 4 club and over 100 years old but I say we should have the North Melbourne or Melbourne Bombers and elevate Port Melbourne into the AFL. Essendon is a stain on the game at the moment.

my reading of their position is that their strategy is designed to avert the focus to this season only in the hope that they can save the club for future seasons. if by chance they can avoid player sanctions, then the club has some sort of existence. if not, you can quite legitimately say goodbye to the club, how can they field a team (under the current salary cap, drafting and list rules) when they have ~30 players suspended?

This Little man that is now heading up Essendon is going to try to drag the whole league down under the guise of 'natural justice'.

Legal action so they can play finals, legal action against finals, injunctions, etc.

Meanwhile - there are 17 other clubs out there that aren't under investigation for cheating that are ramping up for the best part of the season. These arseholes are going to drag this circus out as long as they can.

We've seen hefty fines and suspensions to clubs and players for what most view as "lesser infractions". The Demons tanking that apparently wasn't, and the Tippett contract deal.

If those players can be handed serious penalties, then I dont see how Essendon can think they can get away with anything in this whole sordid saga.

If the loss of points and player and club-offical suspensions are imposed, could Essenscum take AFL to court to get an injunction based on restraint of trade?

I dont know, but I am sick of it. The only way I will remember 2013 in a positive light is if we win the flag.

What gets me is they will be THRASHED in any final this year, so why not get it behind them and try to start clean next year

Its just arrogance ego and the fact they can afford lawyers, but would complain if another club would do this.

To me the fact they are trying this shit on now is twenty times worse than the otiginal thing,

That and having little regard for the health of young players
