Okay, so inner scrotum (?), not official or media reported, not that that's gospel.

So, Unity-28, anything else to add to this, and the implication we may be able to spend 107%? If this was true, tigerwill, what's interpretation of the implication.

the figure we have to pay is a minimum of 100% over a 3 year period, with no more than 105% in any given year, and no lower than 95%. we got approval to pay under this year, but not sure if we can pay 107% or uf we pay 105% next year and 102% in 2019.

I'm not sure how accurate it is as it's hard to verify. Was it confirmed officially or was that figure just "mentioned" and now becomes fact? Or are they getting a little confused with previous CBAs when a club had to meet the 92.5 % minimum TPP. But couldn't bank the underspend?
Was this before the new CBA came into effect?
Does it allow north to pay 107%? Which then breaches the CBA. Are all clubs allowed to do this or was it a once off? I'm betting other clubs will be all over it if it was indeed the case.
Maybe they allowed north to pay 93% but forgo north paying the 2% ($200k-ish) to the afl to distribute to the players.
A whole lot of unknowns, a whole heap of guesses :D
Who knows with the afl, they're so transparent aren't they? ;)

that was told to me by a guy wearing a blue, white and black polo, chinos and a name badge at an official event.
it was well before the new CBA. no idea how it will work out now?
i think we would have to forgo the extra 2%, but thise deets werent discussed.
it was all due to the retirements, and wells leaving as a free agent, that threw the payments out by a long way.

but we are in the possy we are, able to offer big money to two stars, cause we payed under the total cap, and a few of our better players have already had their contracts front loaded, freeing up money for an assult like this (we had it last year too for heeney)

If the talk around the cap spend is accurate and the ability to under / overspend all of which I believe is true then I think we would be well advised to spend as much as we physically can right up to the 107% on DM / JK next year. If we only get the one of them, say if we got DM but missed Kelly I would suggest we would go nuts in year 1 and spend closer to $3M to leave us basically on par from 2019 onwards and decent room to reward players like Brown and whoever else gets themselves well established over the next year.

So if both Martin and Kelly fall through, what do we do with all of our cash?

Resign brown with a ridiculously front loaded contract.

Resign any other required players on similar terms (renegotiated front loaded contracts).

Throw some cash at a youngish high draft pick from Gold Coast or other interstate side (obviously need to get a trade done).

I expect one of the big draw cards of our offer to Dusty will be the front-loading of it.

To a degree but with the increase in salary cap for next year this trade period allows us to leverage the advantage of paying under the cap recently.

Now is the time.

this thread started May 11th and as of 30th August it is still very possible.
As a non-inner scrote type, I mentioned this sometime in the last week. 'Still viable'. Needs to be the suffix to this thread title...

... or maybe not. Don't want to jinx anything.

Deep breath all. We're turning into the home stretch now, a bit hemmed in on the rail but it looks like there might be an opening and we're strong finishers...

Pretty lolworthy that they lineup next to each other in the AA team and thus making this photo occur.

Photoshop the living hell out of that mofo. :thumbsu:
