The downfall of Fox Footy.

The return of the Saturday Stretch analysis is most welcome in place of that BOG-awful garbage they had on last year.
I watched the Fox Footy coverage right until the end last night. Same couldn't be said for last year with BOG. Saturday Stretch / Super Saturday is great.

Foxfooty really is a disgrace as they continue calling off monitors in Melbourne for interstate games.

Yesterday at the Giants game, it was obvious Perryman was in trouble when he grabbed his right hammie high up TWICE in the midfield after a couple of contests.

Of course, the cameras weren't following so NO ONE in Melbourne saw it, nor the boundary rider.

It's this type of stuff that's peeving me off and a clear negative for not being at the ground.

It's lazy broadcasting.

What I don't get is why they don't just have a set of commentators based in each city. You know there's generally going to be a game a round in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and SEQ. They don't need to be big names, surely people who do SANFL and WAFL would be fine.

At this point I'd rather they just put one of the local radio feed over their own footage if its interstate.
It's still phoning it in but at least the call would be better.

You could probably get by having Papalia doing Perth and Adelaide matches and employ a commentator who does NSW/QLD. I know, I know that's too sensible.

Their shows are complete shit apart from First Crack, which is the best football show on TV.

Bounce is lame boomer shit.
AFL 360 is a boring interview show full of cliches and rambling shit from Robbo.

On the Couch is crap too these days. It doesn't know what kind of show it wants to be. Is it blokes casually talking footy, is it serious analysis, or is it another interview show. It doesn't do any of these successfully.

They should just get rid of all their shows and give us nightly first crack focusing on game reviews and previews.

A bit harsh -

Bounce just tries to look at the funny side of the game - which it does moderately well (And believe me, I’m no fan of Gaze on radio..but he can be funny with Dunstall sometimes) - not sure what makes it ‘Boomer sh1t’ - or is having a sense of humour ‘not cool’?

No argument on AFL360 or OTC....both lost in the Footy wilderness these days. I think OTC is in real trouble..their analysis is hardly deep..its more just conjecture over the obvious - and the suck-holing that goes on to the coaches is sickening.

Agree - The post game analysis with King and Montagnia are excellent - and lets face it, after listening to two hours of Dermie drivel during a game...they need some genuine incisive analysis.

I think they still have Brenton Speed on their books who's a Sydney based primarily World Game (soccer) caller but he's only used occasionally (probably a good thing). Most of their Sydney based guys are used for NRL coverage as they cover each game themselves and not take 9's commentary, even for games they can't show live (the 3 Origins and the GF).

It hasn't been the same since Spud passed away and it was probably a good time to call stumps on it. Yes Drewy is OK in small doses but Spud and Chief had the chemistry.

Which is interesting considering that will be the same situation on Fox Footy come 2025 (or earlier 🤞)
Maybe Fox is waiting until the new contract starts to do things properly. Like 7 supposedly is regarding an actual footy show on their network.

They need to spread the games out over three channels instead of two, or if not, have the pre- and post-game coverage on either another channel or on Kayo or something, the way they currently do Saturday games is not good enough.
Or - what if the AFL didn't run one game so close to the next?

Well that's just the obvious solution, isn't it?
To be fair, it's not just the AFL calling when the matches start.
There was a recent News Corp article that mentioned Fox Footy will get to dictate when games start on Saturday once they get their exclusive Super Saturday, so they'll stick Best On Ground in a prime-time spot.

This is how I'd do it:

Thursday 7.20pm
Friday 7.20pm

Saturday 1.30pm
Saturday 3.30pm
Saturday 5.30pm
Saturday 7.30pm

Sunday 12.40pm
Sunday 3.20pm

9th game would be a combination of Friday Double Header (6.30pm/9pm), a Sunday 6pm game or a bye (spread the byes over 9 weeks in the middle of the season). Only overlap between games would occur on Saturdays.

For Saturdays, the 3.30 and 7.30 game would be shown on 504. 1.30 game would be shown on 504 until half time before switching over to the pre-show of the 3.30 game. 1.30 and 5.30 game shown on 503. Four hours between start times allows for a proper half hour post show and half hour pre-show between games.

I didn't like that Saturday timetable then I read the whole post and love it.
Sunday fixture is fine as it is right now imo; 1:10pm (504), 3:20pm (503), 4:40pm (504) gives all three matches time to breathe.

During the 1st half of Crows v Tigers it feels like Jonathan Brown has mentioned every 5 minutes that Richmond were really good last week except for their final disposal inside forward 50.

How someone like him has become one of the most prominent 'special comments' men in the game is a complete mystery.

When you realize Fox Footy's commentary team isn't great but 7's is worse

That Sunday 6pm game would be played the majority of the time in WA.

I agree the Sunday schedule isnt too bad as it stands given they give room to breathe between games
