The downfall of Fox Footy.

Growing up there was some show on Foxtel where they’d give highlights of all 8 games. Don’t remember the name but watching it before school in the early/mid 00’s, and some weeks it was the only form of football I could watch

Did this actually exist or did I dream it
On the Couch covered all games with clips that lead into a discussion - thats a long time ago.

When Optus isn’t leaking all our data, they actually do a v good job with the EPL.

A few hours after a game they post VODs of differing length - quick (3 mins), short (9 mins), mini match (25 mins), mega (45 mins) and full match (all 90 mins).

They also post overnight goals on Sunday and Monday - covering each game’s goals and the end result. (For Footy this would obviously just a goal or two each per game).

Why can’t Fox/Kayo/7 do something similar and post them to their website and YouTube?

I feel like the revenue from ads in each video would quickly outweigh the cost of having staff put together these highlight videos.

Which is weird. Because it is easily the best way of attracting / converting people to the code and a great review of a round for rusted ons that can't watch every game! Bit like the old days of the ABC's The Winners.
I'm just not sure there is a whole lot of common sense with programming these days but simply look for ways of putting blokes who are part of the boys club to get their heads on tv...

And herein lays half of the problem. Once upon a time, we had professional broadcasters like Peter Landy who could hold together a show. Now we're stuck with an ever-increasing pool of ex-players saying the same thing.

They had that in the early days of the latest reincarnation of FoxFooty (I think Dwayne Russell hosted it) but it was punted when they started inflicting that kid's show on us.

You're not thinking of 'The Winners', are you?
Not to be confused with the ABC show from the 70s & 80s of the same premise.

I think that’s it but I’m talking 2002/3. My parents were either always busy or tried to find things for us to do outside of the house when I was barely into primary school. Get up before school and watch this show was all I had after some weekends.

I’d support this if they brought it back. Even if it was simply just loading up Kayo hitting play and walking away, because not everyone has the time to watch 9 games a week and I wouldn’t want to see another kid of the next generation to possibly miss out.

I heard Ross Lyon was having a press conference for the new job as saints coach and thought id go to the footy channel on Kayo......some crap replay of a footy show

My first thought was 'Fox Footy not what it used to be' and reading the last few pages would see about right (i dont have foxtel and dont watch anything on footy channel on Kayo except for the games)

It was on fox sports news. But I concur. First thought I’d also fox footy.

Optus doesn’t produce those the epl does and gives to all the rights broadcasters around the world.

I remember during the covid break they listed a various number of past games that we could vote on to be shown. There were som really odd games included like Hawthorn vs Richmond at Glenferrie which I never seen or yet found anywhere.
There was South Melbourne vs Geelong in 1977, home and away game in the Sixties between St.Kilda vs Collingwood and various other hard to find games.

But the majority voted for games that have been shown a billions times and are easy to find. 1970 Grand Final, Anzac Games, 1989 Grand Final etc etc

But they still have not shown these hard to find games. Do they exist or were they just teasing us?
