HiLux dominate mine sites so that's probably the majority of their sales.

In know that BMA (BHP / Mitsubishi) in QLD swapped from HiLux to Ranger when BHP introduced their mandatory 5 Star ANCAP rating policy a few years back and the 3.0 Hilux was only rated at 4 Star rating. They didn't use the Rangers for long, they thought they were pieces of shit so they switched over to Isuzu M-UXs.

Rangers would be selling to the tradies I'd reckon due to a slick advertising campaign just like Jeep have. The Ranger is a decidedly ordinary vehicle and Jeep just have that reputation that you're a better chance of getting a lemon than with other vehicles and their after market service is particularly woeful.

With a bit of inventiveness I think Holden (and Ford Australia) would've been fine, because our classic cars actually fit the American market well, and they should've been creating other models more suited to the Australian market. But post-GFC GM and Ford both became more territorial and less interested in what their Australian outposts had to offer - especially in the case of GM - and that was that.

Perhaps Holden should have pulled the plug on the people running the show.
It was like watching a slow death - that took 20 years.
A bit of Japanese imagination, some European styling and money from getting into bed with Ford and the death could have been strung out for another 20 years.
The Australian govt should be looking at why Holden went down the gurgler and why some Qantas planes are serviced somewhere else, RM Williams made o/s, vegemite went o/s for a while and France has something to do with making our new submarines.
A bit of incentive for icons would be handy instead of worrying about how to rip out all the coal, gas and iron ore in such a hurry.

I don't think the appetite for touring car racing minus Holden and Ford is particularly high.

I used to love it before the SuperCars came about. Holden v Ford v Camaro, Capris, Minis, Morris. I used to love watching it with all of the different classes running different races and the likes of Ingall whinging about them all the time on the track.

The Ford and Holden proving grounds at Anglesea, Lara and Lang Lang. I'm pretty sure they built tanks at Ford in Geelong during WWII.

The technology in the Skylines and Ford Sierras and M3s was streets ahead of the local equivalents. Turbochargers, all wheel drive... it was the 2010s when V8 Supercars moved away from live axles and Holden/Ford still use pushrod V8 engines.

Peter Brock, Allan Moffat etc. used to drive around in modified road cars. If that continued Holden and Ford would've struggled to compete.

Biggest problem with Holden was Detroit. Decisions at Holden were always made with the best interests of the GM empire in mind and not the best interests of Holden. The writing was on the wall when the XC Barina was swapped out for the TK.

That's the norm for car industries in every country. Nations recognise that there is real value in having a car industry - apart from us.

True. Australia competes with countries that invest in the industry.

Nothing wrong with the government giving subsidies, the problem was that the local arms of these companies had too little clout on the global scale. No control over export opportunities, and why would Ford / GM continue to co invest when China, Thailand etc put in so much more.

Yeah and Rothschild funded it. This is just more anti Jewish rubbish.

German heavy tanks were generally powered mostly by a V12 23 litre Maybach, Maybach powered most German 1/2 tracks and tanks. Trucks were Damiler Benz or the smaller workhorse was an Opel blitz which some (it came in different sizes/engines) had a ford engine till 1937, after that they were engines similar (rip off) to a GM engine.
