Was chatting to a bud in the afl media today about Toby McLean. I said if I could only keep one of him and Macrae, I'd take Mclean. He couldn't believe it.

This guy will shock the footy public next year IMO. I'm all in for him as the rising star.

Yep McLean a big rising star chance. Daniel might pip him though. :)

I'd also take McLean, has similar ability to find the ball (probably not to the level of Macrae) but has more hurt factor, more weapons and more versitility to push forward and through the middle.

Adams plays round 1 in my view, we just have to have some sort of big body who can take either of the number 1 or 2 KPF's.

Collins should get games to. His endurance is decent and the good thing is we don't have to stack any weight on him whatsoever. If anything its just building the muscle to his already muscular frame, cutting his skin folds and continuing to improve his athleticism.

He also seems to be the defender who likes to take the pressure spot of the deep defender. I like that in a kid.

I'd take Macrae over McLean everyday of the week. It's not even close in my mind. Macrae is a freaking jet, gets lost in the Stringer and Bontempelli hype, but he's just as good as Wines, Crouch, Ellis and co.

Most underrated player going around.

I rate Macrae so so highly as well. I've said previously, I could see him winning a Brownlow. And my bud knows that, which is why I used him to illustrate how highly I rate Mclean.

I think he has a chance to be our 4th best player in 2 years time (bonti, strings and Libba).

Tough call and I don't think I could go past Macrae considering he's already got the runs on the board but I agree with ya, McLean will be an absolute jet, definitely have to load up on him for the rising star.

I was going to do this yesterday but he's in the top 10 to win it already! So odds not that great - paying $21.

Do people think if Collins can get into the team that actually helps Hamling? Can play third tall?

The way I see it Bob should play a lot more footy forward next year now. And on the wing.

I also think it puts Roberts spot in the 22 in doubt. Our back 6 could look completely different this year with Adams, Collins, Suckling and Adcock onboard.

This just in
best 22 according to Ryan Davidson. Interesting on his thoughts for ruck.

B: Dale Morris, Fletcher Roberts, Robert Murphy
HB: Easton Wood, Joel Hamling, Matthew Boyd
C: Jason Johanissen, Tom Liberatore, Jack Macrae
HF: Luke Dahlhaus, Stewart Crameri, Matt Suckling,
F: Tory Dickson, Tom Boyd, Jake Stringer
Foll: Jordan Roughead, Mitch Wallis, Marcus Bontempelli
I/C: Lachie Hunter, Liam Picken, Koby Stevens, Toby McLean

DEPTHKey-position defenders: Marcus Adams, Kieran Collins, Zaine Cordy
General defenders: Shane Biggs, Lukas Webb, Josh Prudden, Roarke Smith*, Jed Adcock*, Bradley Lynch*
Key-position forwards: Jack Redpath
General forwards: Bailey Dale, Mitch Honeychurch, Declan Hamilton, Caleb Daniel
Midfielders: Nathan Hrovat, Lin Jong, Clay Smith, Josh Dunkley, Bailey Williams
Rucks: Tom Campbell, Luke Goetz*, Will Minson

The Dogs have decent depth across all lines and have some of the most exciting youngsters in the competition. Shane Biggs is unlucky to miss, but the running defender will get plenty of chances with veterans Robert Murphy and Matthew Boyd unlikely to play every game. Tom Boyd gets the nod ahead of Jack Redpath with another pre-season under his belt. Second-year youngsters Bailey Dale, Lukas Webb, Caleb Daniel and Zaine Cordy are ready to go if a spot opens up while Will Minson and rookie recruit Jed Adcock are handy back-ups. Tough-as-teak midfielder Clay Smith will probably miss most of the season while he recovers from this third knee reconstruction in as many years. - Ryan Davidson

First journalist I've seen put McLean in there. Nice.

Wow a journo actually got it pretty bang on. Actually is that the exact team out BF poll chose?

I like the potential 2017 team:
Cordy Collins JJ
Webb Hamling Wood
Hunter Stevens MacRae
Crameri Bonti McLean
Daniel Boyd Stringer
Rough Libba Wallis
Hamilton Dale Adams Biggs
Lots of run, skill, and flexibility. Adams can go to CHB/CHF if needed. Bonti, Daniel, Stringer, Crameri and McLean can rotate on ball, plus the bench has a lot of run and skill.

We now have interesting positional competition. Have set out positional battles - who wins? Yes - I am bored crapless!,

FF: Boyd v Roughead

CHF: Stringer v Redpath

FP: Dickson v McClean

SP: Daniel v Honey

SHF: Dal v Hunter

MHF: Crameri v Stevens

R: Libba v Hrovat

C: Wallis v Picken

RR: Bonti v McCrae

Ruck: Minson v Cambell

W: JJ v Stevens

W: Biggs v Dale

HBF: Boyd v Adcock

AHB: Murphy v Suckling

IHB: Wood v R.Smith

3KPD: Morris v Cordy

CHB: Hamling v Fletcher

FB: Collins v Adams

MID6: C.Smith v Prudden

MID7: Jong v Webb

Excused the new kids (other then man child types). Couldn't find like for like battle for Hamilton but expect B.Williams or Lynch will be fighting him for the skillfull flanker role.

FF: Boyd v Roughead -Boyd; better mark, better at positioning himself in dangerous spots

CHF: Stringer v Redpath -Stringer; easily one of the most dangerous forwards in the competition

FP: Dickson v McClean -Dickson, but just for now. Will reassess once he has played more

SP: Daniel v Honey -Daniel. More skilled with the ball & creative

SHF: Dal v Hunter - Tie :p

MHF: Crameri v Stevens -Crameri. For now anyway.

R: Libba v Hrovat -Liberatore, easily. One of our most important players

C: Wallis v Picken - Tie ;)

RR: Bonti v McCrae -Macrae for now, if Bontempelli could get as much of the ball as Macrae though; then it is easily Bontempelli

Ruck: Minson v Cambell -Minson until Campbell gets an engine, so he can be useful for over the entirety of four quarters

W: JJ v Stevens - JJ, his run is super important; as is his creative ball use

W: Biggs v Dale - Biggs, may change though. But I really like both & think they'll play an underrated part in our side. At least from opposition supporters

HBF: Boyd v Adcock -I haven't seen too much of Adcock, so the bias leans me towards Boyd

AHB: Murphy v Suckling -Murphy. He is our leader & sets us up really well. Suckling is probably his short term replacement.

IHB: Wood v R.Smith -Wood, another easy one.

3KPD: Morris v Cordy -Morris, though I hope Cordy gets more games next year & expect that in a few years time, that he'll seem like a steal for what we got him for at the draft

CHB: Hamling v Fletcher -Hamling, his athleticism seems to suit our game style better

FB: Collins v Adams -Impossible for me to say, have seen a lot of Collins & just a highlights of Adams

MID6: C.Smith v Prudden -Prudden, I think that he could play more roles than Clay & is the better kick

MID7: Jong v Webb -like McLean, I will reassess at the end of the year; as I need to see Webb play more games
Though I really like Webb as a skilled ball user, it's possible that in the future he takes over the role of Boyd in defense

Just wrote my thoughts up quickly for you.
:fire:

Great response - how about my crap spelling! Most of the choices are easy but it does show our depth and a common question in my mind was "are they better now or will they be in the next year or two".

don't think McLean made it into ours, otherwise Yes
Yep, apart from a few positional changes it's bang on.
He had to shuffle a few or it would be too obvious where he ripped it from ;)
Obviously he took Fronk's opinion on board ;)

He marches to his own beat boys. He watches every single Doggies game. He doesn't need to come in here to know what's going on.
