Whats been wrong with Bergman this PS? Whats the injury been, do we know?
I think he had a screw loose in his shoulder and it needed to get tightened, should be back in a couple weeks.

I don't see Bonner as an impact player, whereas Mayes is a proven sub. I have Bonner in the team, something I wouldn't have said a year ago, as a wing or flanker.

I don't think Mead gets a game for Round one he will have to wait a bit longer and his inclusion will probably be form based via the Magpies.

Drew as the starting follower is an interesting move. Something has to be done to address our slow starts but I don't see this as the answer. I would have SPP starting as a follower/wrecking ball/protector of Butters/defensive mid and see how that works. Boak probably comes in as SPP's replacement. It may not work but something has to be tried. Our slow starts are catastrophic, and something which by now better teams will try to implement to their advantage by deliberately slowing down our play while moving their play on asap etc etc. Playing Drew as first follower is an extremely defensive move and not the right one from my point point of view.

Marshall shouldn't be playing deep forward. I see Georgiades as better suited for that role.

Will Bergman be ready for round one? Playing him gives us more versatility I'd be inclined to play Jones for exposure and to see what he can do until Bergman has had a game or two in the Magpies

Hi all. Sorry if not the right thread for it (it is a fantasy footy question, after all).

Wondering what you can tell me about Bergman and SPP - I know they've both had injuries through the preseason - but are they seen as best 22? Likely to return early in the season?

Thanks

I regard Bergman as best 22, but he has had an interrupted pre-season following shoulder surgery. He is likely to be fit around round 1 but suspect he may get a run in the Magpies first.

SPP is an interesting one. I think he is best 22, but who knows. His hamstring injury will have him racing the clock for round 1. If everyone is fit, he could get squeezed out or played at half forward, which I’m not convinced is his best position.

Both are expected to be fit for round one.

SPP finished last year as the 23rd man for finals but was shooting the lights out this pre season before getting injured. I'd say he's basically a certain starter for round one and will stay in the team if he keeps his form up.

Bergman is more iffy. Finished last year in the best 22 but the shoulder injury will delay his start you'd think. There's a lot of competition for wing/half back positions with Jones, Sinn, Bonner and Bergman all competing for only one or two spots if everyone is fit. I think Bergman has huge potential but it's a tight squeeze and he may have to bide his time.

F: Gray - Dixon - Mitch
HF: Rozee - Marshall - Finlayson
C : Amon - Wines - Duursma
HB: Houston - Aliir - Bergman
B: Burton - McKenzie - Jones
R: Lycett - Boak - Butters

Bench: SPP - Motlop - Sinn - Fantasia

No spots for Jonas, DBJ, Clurey, Bonner. The first three constantly tuen it over or just hoof it with ball in hand and Bonner shits the bed at the sound of footsteps.

Dropping the skipper round 1? Dont think so

Dixon Bergmann are unlikely
and Fanta is out for awhile

I reckon this is as hard as it's been to pick our Round 1 team in years.

B: T. Jonas, T. Clurey (I'd pick McKenzie but it seems the coaches are favouring Clurey), R. Burton
HB: D. Byrne-Jones, A. Aliir, D. Houston
C: K. Amon, T. Boak, X. Duursma
HF: C. Rozee, T. Marshall, S. Powell-Pepper
F: R. Gray, J. Finlayson, M. Georgiades
R: S. Lycett (I'd go Hayes, but Ken won't), O. Wines, Z. Butters
INT: W. Drew, S. Motlop, L. Jones, R. Bonner
SUB: J. McEntee

Sinn and Bergman on standby if SPP or Gray don't get up.

Looking good for Loxton

I’m intrigued to see what we do with Finlayson with the rise of lord and return of Dixon. He is too good to not play but isn’t better than Dixon, Marshall or Mitch.

Also what do Robbie, Mots, Jonas, Mayes, Pasini and Dumont do at seasons end?

Jonas has seemed a bit past (I still back him to bounce back) it this year but would be handy depth and a good player for the maggies next year, so rookie? Question is who replaces him in the 22 and who is our depth KPD?
Robbie could play on, retire or rookie and he really gets to choose. Would him not being there mean a forward rethink? Maybe Frederick as a small forward? Or Raz in for Robbie?
Mots has been good, thinking a year or rookie. Is he keeping someone from getting valuable game time?
Pasini seemed to be showing something but we did select skinner and an injured McKenzie ahead of him and he is out of contract. Think he gets another year but not surprised if he didn’t, in which case who covers him? Finlayson?

And Mayes and Dumont seemed obvious delist material at start of year but Dumont has done well, Mayes is reliable (show downs aside) and if we lose Robbie and Jonas we may need some experience on the list.

Our list is in an interesting position. We need spots for young guys like Bergmann, Sinn, Schofield, Mead and Lord but aren’t ready to lose the guys that are in their way and currently carry the side. Ie Duursma should play ahead of Dumont but Trent is in better form and more reliable right now.

On paper that is the best forward line we have had all year. Great mix of muscle and X factor/ tall and small.

So McKenzie is first choice over Clurey?

And Mayes and McEntee over Motlop, Frederick or Schofield?

So Lycett gets one or two games in the SANFL then back to AFL and who comes out?

And how do we play Teakle when he is fit? Does he get a run ahead of Lycett? What if the season is done?
