That is something that bugged me. Shouldn't they have been forced to use pick 13?

This one gets me as well, why couldn't any of the other clubs bid for Viney at say Richmonds pick 9 or Essendon at 10 which would then have forced the Dees to use pick 13, not sure why only the clubs below the Dees 1st pick were allowed to bid, if they then wanted to use a pick in the 20's any other club with a pick below this should have been able to bid.

The whole system seems to be made up as they go along and of course the AFL are never wrong , well not if you still want to deal with them, even most of the Journos may as well be on the payroll only one or two are game enough to criticise the AFL.

My real biggest annoyance lately is the dropping the ball, holding the ball, incorrect disposal frees, why wont they pay a free anymore when someone incorrectly disposes of the ball, for me this is the one area fans really get involved in but the AFL in it's "wisdom" seem to just let dropping the ball go these days, this should be paid every single time, a good tackle deserves the reward.

The VFL prospered for nigh on 100 years and evolved into the AFL we see today because 12 Victorian clubs shared the wealth and each of them were strong entities. Much wealthier than the richest WA or SA clubs.

More than half of them were insolvent; and were it not for the distributions from the Sydney sale to Dr Edelsten and Brisbane Bears & West Coast Eagles' licence fees in the mid-1980s, the VFL, along with several clubs, would have been liquidated.

I'd like to see each Melbourne team have to play AWAY at least once to each interstate team, i.e. Collingwood for example would travel to Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and QLD twice making a genuine 8 interstate trips. 'Home games' sold interstate such as Darwin and Tasmania to come out of their clubs Melbourne home games allotment and not against their away components.

I patently think it sucks that Vic club supporters get 18 chances to see their team play, as opposed to an "interstaters" 11-12.

GREAT thread. AFL getting progressively worse and dis-interesting as the years go by. While FOOTBALL is a great sport, the AFL is doing a terrible job making FOOTBALL a great sport.

Give it 3 to 5 years and you'll be bitching like you should be now on how EASY these teams have got it in their first few years. Best coaches, new facilities, best players in the land over a 3 or 4 year period. Think the AFL is a mess now? Wait till these two are up the top and no one can knock 'em off.

* Adrian Anderson or whoever will get to choose priority picks for clubs.

* How clearly unfair the fixture is each and every season. Even moreso now with clubs playing intro teams like GWS and GC twice a year whereas others play them both once each. Every team should play every team twice or once. Not a bit of this and a bit of that. Make the fixture fair.

* The umpiring is just a joke. It costs teams games this year. They change the rules every year and progressively that makes it worse and more confusing. Too much interpretation. Look at the old tapes, no tiggy touch rules. Just be realistic and know the game.

* Match review panel. See the umpires sentences above but change a few words.

* Tanking. So obvious, still is.

* No Tasmania team.

* w***ers in the crowd who 'BOOOOOO' when the umpire goes to the video. So we get the right result? BIG DEAL!?

* Game is too predictable now. You can spot the outcome of a game from a fair way away. Not as many 1 on 1 contests and close matches.

List just doesn't end.


To be honest, AFL doesn't interest me as much as it used to. I still care about RICHMOND and their success or lack of, but the rest of the game is in such a mess it's not really watchable.

The AFL has enough trouble keeping the 18 clubs above board. Yet some think adding a new division of far less supported clubs is a great idea...

yes. but fitzroy would have a better supporter base than the franchise clubs.

Eg. It would have been better to include PAFC into the AFL originally and then another SA team rather than create a club from scratch.

Creating the Adelaide Crows was a brilliant idea and putting in another SANFL club instead would have been 'Port Adelaide 2' in terms of supporters and money.

Media people in the afl say the same shit every single game and week you have to follow the rules on what you say to keep your job and that includes players.

The anti recreational drugs need to be dropped basically if you get caught in public your career is over but of you manage to hide it away from the public even though the afl knows you've pissed dirty more than 3 times its fine.

How they bring "technology" (cameras) use it when it's questionable yet a ball can go 30cm behind the post syd vs pies game with 3 umpires looking on the line yet it's not even looked at and called a point why was there no review you guys wanted a closer game didn't you ?

Suspensions, I believe 95% of suspensions mainly the head high or heavy bumps are not done on purpose of its not done intentionally how can you suspend someone ? Yet a player can dive all day and its all good or you chicken wing to hurt someone and only get 4 oh wait he was playing a big hyped up game in 4 weeks that's why.


Generally greed is the worst thing, not jut the afl the world..
