Lol, Manning Rippers, I remember playing them, and thrashing them
I was bitten on the fingers by a Manning Ripper... he was going to ground as he tackled... his last chance to hold the tackle was to lock his choppers onto the hand I fended him with... some quality punctures across a couple of digits.
The desperation was somewhat admirable when I looked back to see how I was being impeded... Ump waved play on as well
Played the R & I Bank Rippers before they merged with fellow basketcases, Manning... but who can forget the biggest meatheads of 90's single team WAAFL...

Flagstaff Hill used to be the Bushpigs in the early 90's and what a club song they had. They weren't allowed to sing it at opposition grounds and only in the change rooms for home games. "I wanna be a Bushpig ranger.."

IMO the best named league, would have to be the "Old Scholars league" in Tassie, and club wise the Noaralunga "Cockle Divers., the Phantoms is pretty good though.
I might have a look at international clubs in the next few days, might be some interesting names there.

Quinns Bulls in northern suburbs Perth, their slogan "run with the Bulls"...... very nice.

Huonville ended up as the Bulldogs for just about all their life in the now defunct Huon Football Association, amalgamated with nearby Franklin Lions in 1998 to join the current Southern Football League as the Huonville Lions.
Kermandie ended up being known as the Robins for decades in the Huon FA, forced to change identity when entering the Southern Football League in 1998, they became the Bushrangers.
North Melbourne sponsored them a set of jumpers in 2001 and they became the Kangaroos for a season or two before returning the Robins for another few seasons. Kermandie folded on 17 March 2010.
Cananore used to play predominently in the same playing uniform as the Claremont Football Club currently do in the WAFL with the exception of it being a black jumper as opposed to navy blue.
They were actually named after an incorrectly spelt brass name plate on a house in West Hobart where supporters used to gather for socials in the early part of last century, the property was owned by a person who had travelled extensively in India that had been one of the founding fathers of the club.
Cananore closed down in 1944 when the TFL went to district-based clubs and it morphed into the Hobart Football Club that played in the TFL and is currently in the State League.
Some others from Tasmania:
Cygnet "The Port" - Southern Football League (formerly the Magpies).
Rocherlea "Rockapes" - NTFA Division One (also the Tigers)
Many teams such as North Hobart (until 1969), North Launceston (until 1998), Brighton, Kermandie, Parattah, Smelters, Ulverstone, Redpa, Sheffield etc have been/still are the Robins.
Strahan were known as the Seals in their short-lived return to the old WTFA from 1991-1993, they'd last played in the old Murchison FA in 1958.
Bridport in the North Eastern FU are the Seagulls, Sandy Bay were also the Seagulls in the TFL from 1945-1997 until they folded that year, as are Turners Beach in the NWFA.
Channel in the Old Scholars FA are known as the Sharks (formerly Saints), forced to change when joining the comp as St Virgil's were known as the Saints, Hillwood are also known the Sharks in NTFA Division One along with the Prospect in another Northern comp.
Eaglehawk Neck (now defunct) were known as the Coutas in the old Peninsula FA comp near Hobart until the comp and all its clubs folded in 2001.
Penguin Football Club (formerly of the NWFU and now the NTFL) are known the Two Blues, Lindisfarne from the former TAFL Southern Division, now in the Southern Football League also use that nickname.
City-South from the old NTFA in Launceston were the Redlegs, they merged with East Launceston in 1986 after East had joined the TFL, the merged club became the South Launceston Bulldogs.
Lyell in the old WTFA were the Maroons until they merged with the Gormanston Blues in 1976 to become Lyell-Gormanston Lions.
In reality it's a pretty irrelevant name now. It got that name when they were all a part of the former Tasmanian Amatuer Football League (Southern Division) and there was a split in 1981, whereby they formed a seperate Old Scholars division until the whole TAFL went belly-up in 1995.fabulousphil said:

Dominic College kicked it's team (DOSA) off their grounds and they became nomads until they moved to North Hobart this past year.
OHA is named Old Hobartians Association and is based at Geilston Bay on the Eastern Shore, despite representing a defunt school that used to be based in that large mansion-like building behind North Hobart Oval which closed in the early 1970's.
Former team Friends' was named after the prestigious Friends' School in North Hobart (Friends of Quakers Society in Hobart) but the school disowned them and booted them off their Bell Street Ground to turn them into soccer grounds when they decided Australian football was no longer to be part of their sports curriculum and the team became nomads, eventually moving to North Hobart Oval and folded after 70-odd years, about 5 years ago.
St Virgil's College only goes up to Year 10 these days after Governmental changes during the 1990's and Hutchins School still goes through to Year 12, these two are the only ones to have any sort of involvement with their original colleges along with Uni, that are based down in Sandy Bay near the Uni.
The remaining clubs are Richmond from the old TAFL Southern Division and Channel formerly of the Huon FA and later Southern FL.

The nickname of Mines Rovers from Kalgoorlie is the Diorites.
Have to put up East Fremantle's two nicknames in Old Easts (to differentiate them from the younger East Perth) and the more recent Sharks.
West Adelaide have the best nickname of a club in any of the major leagues.
Essendon Association in the VFA were called the dreadnaughts which is an awesome name.

Montello Maulers were a team that got kicked out of the DFA in northern Tassie some time ago.
Fitzroy were known as the Gorilla's in the early days.
