The Stare down though - Thats such a silly look, Dont think other teams really worry about it and looked as though your team was too focused on trying to psych out everybody and got side tracked on where their focus should have been.

Good luck in 2018 - Cheers
It's not about the other team, it's supposedly some scientific thing to get our guys up and about for the first part of the game. We've been up and about in all our finals in the first 10 so maybe it has worked.

For those blasting Lynch..
Did everyone see what he was copping?? Unfortunately he hasn't likely tastes this before, he was getting smashed behind the ball everywhere.. maybe I could only see it as I was sitting in top of the stadium but yeah they were working him over big time.. guess what.. that is when the game changed, was mid of second qtr..

It was vintage Hardwick. Otten got a similar working over, but you're right - Lynch was the one they really went after because they know how crucial he is to our structure and ball movement.

That's how you win grand finals. It's the sort of machiavellian touch the AFC hasn't had, for the best part of two decades.

One thing that disappointed me was that when it was clear that things had gone south I saw no response at all from the coaches box.

I would have toyed with something even something like moving Sloane forward and putting Jenkins on the bench just to change our forward structure.

Most probably would have done 2/5ths of heck all but at least try something to spark a momentum shift. Not only the players, but also our coaching was exposed yesterday on the big stage.

I agree 100%, last week I was so nervous against the Cats and for some reason the GF didn't really have any emotions about it it's like at least we got there. The team looks like the played with the same attitude.
It's interesting, people generally thought or some were worried on the Tigers wagon that we knew there was one game to go and the Tigers were thrilled to be there. Looks like it was the other way around.

After all the losing Prelim finals with the club maybe a collective sigh that we finally made it kicked in. And Richmond couldn't even win a final yet did a clean sweep in one finals series.

It's like scrapping, fighting and crawling all the way to the top of Mt Everest. And when we get there and are just about to stick our flag in the peak we get the shakes and slide all the way back to the bottom.

I know football clubs are resilient but it's difficult to just dust yourself off and start climbing again next year with the same energy as before.

We were slaughtered at every physical contest yesterday, players too scared or unwilling to go in as hard as Richmond were.
We need to seriously toughen up in the off season. Bigger bodies, stronger minds and the willingness to put our heads over the ball and risk being hurt.
No risk no reward.
Cut off the dead wood and the shirkers and rebuild. The 'window' seems firmly shut otherwise.

This.

And it's the biggest reason to change up selection. There will be a few guys scarred by their performance yesterday and are too old to recover. Tex can, but guys like Douglas, Mackay and Otten should never play unless we are down to bare bones.

Throw Poholke, Gallucci and whoever our first rounder is this year straight in and get some positivity and exuberance around the playing group.

Absolutely spot. Players will have scars. Can't do anything about that. Need to surround them with fresh energy. It's infectious. We've previously tried to bore ahead with the same core group after finals heartbreaks. It categorically does not work and needs to be guarded against at all costs.

For me yesterday is a simple look back

1. We have always relied on an even contribution and yesterday we just had to many players below their best, Tex, JJ, DMac, Knight, Talia, Betts, Cameron, Douglas, Greenwood, Lynch and Otten. 10 players unnamed off the top of my head who didn't play well.

2. The selection of Otten Up forward, this selection in playing Andy Up forward has previously ****ed up our forward connection and it did again yesterday

I admit I got it wrong, thought we should go in unchanged and exploit their size.

Problem is we were short of options. Maybe Greenwood as a forward and Milera in the middle? But would Milera have coped with the heat?

Had a nights sleep to reflect
1. Lynch miss in 2nd qtr was the turning point

2. We got out worked and they killed us from turnovers and that's OUR way of playing, beaten at our own game.

3. Too many times we bombed it on our forwards head allowing Rance to mop up

4. After qtr time we just folded, I was still confident at half time we'd steamroll them... wasn't to be

All in all for all the disappointment and hurt of yesterday I'm actually ok with it all and yesterday didn't get angry and fly off the handle
PLENTY of positives from this season, Greenwood, Keath, Matt and Brad Crouch's development, Jake Kelly becoming a bona fide AFL defender, Rory Laird taking his game to another level

At the end of it all it really is just a game as much as we love it, I came home from GF party yesterday afternoon gutted, was all made better by my 3yo girl happy to see me, could tell I was sad so got me to come and sit on the couch with her to watch ABC kids (let me tell you The Octonauts got more put on more defensive pressure than us!)

Bring on Gibbs, Jackson Edwards and any other breath of fresh air we'll be bigger and better in 2018

We were a week early, Our Boys played their GF to beat Patrick Dangerfield and after that it was enough for Our Boys to just make up the numbers.

Bunch of out-enthused pansies, the lot of them

Totally agree.

Ok the MCG size issue for our gameplan, I've said it once and I'll say again for the 1000th time. In weeks leading up to games at the MCG do our match simulation training at Elizabeth Oval!!! It is the closest dims to the G, throw some money Centrals way they'll be happy to oblige I'm sure
