This is the thing. We still have Rucci and Whateley and associated Hinkley fanbois in the media giving him endless gobbies for what has been limited success — especially in light of the rest of the comp during his reign — but the negatives are almost completely swept under the rug to the point of non-existent.

It’s bizarre.

The infinite kudos for the Rozee/Burton/Butters/Duursma/Georgiades captures at the expense of Wingard/Pittard/Polec/Howard is one example: all told, how big a win is that really?

Meanwhile, the mammoth salary outlay for Rockliff/Motlop/Watts for negligible value isn’t even discussed, let alone criticised. It just happened, and yeah, so what? Davies is a wheeling and dealing god!

Is it any wonder we just lurch along from year to year.
