Didn't choke

Was chewing my fingernails at halftime wondering how big Bombers spray was going to be, and when and who would lead the comeback.

Was always going to be close, they always are.

Would like a dry game between the two though, to get a better appreciation.

Last night we saw the 2 BEST teams in the competition play a classic game of football.

Welldone to saints for winning, it wasn't a pretty game but Ross Lyon's tactics worked very well in the 1st half, still in saying that i saw enough of Geelong to say we could win a Grand final rematch.

they were down by 6 goals by a red hot team that has been on par with them as the best team in Australia for 2 years..

Then managed to claw back bit by bit and if luck was on their side, would have won..

This and coming from a collingwood supporter as well. I would not be surpirsed if this spurs Geelong on and gets them to the GF. Would love to see them demolish Hawthorn next week and then obliterate collingwood. Very good chance they will be the most determined bunch of blokes since winning 07. Plus get back pods.

Last night proved, as in 2009, the 2 best teams in the competition are St Kilda and Geelong.

A question: If Collingwood wins against the Bulldogs and Geelong gets up next week, how comfortable will you feel facing us in a sudden death preliminary final? Would you rather face Geelong or St Kilda?

I'm banking on Fremantle beating Hawthorn today, us winning, Freo beating Geelong, thus making a Collingwood vs Fremantle preliminary final at the MCG.

On the other hand, I see Sydney defeating Carlton, setting up a semi final vs the Bulldogs which they will comfortably defeat, and then spurred on by Kirk and Roos in their last ever preliminary final together, will get over St.Kilda thus setting up a Collingwood vs Sydney grand final.

I thought the idea of choking was that you lose when you're the better side. So how can we be the definition of choker if we don't win the grand final, while St Kilda are a much better side?

Port Adelaide lost their first final in 2002 and 2003 after being huge favourites in both games, esp the Sydney game where we were 7 goals down at half time and fought back (eerily similar to last night's game)
However, because we didn't have a flag under our belt, they are considered chokes.

Lets look at Collingwood

Failed when mattered in aprelim thumped, thrashed, demoralised by 12 goals

People go on about the 2009 Preliminary Final, but we weren't favourite and very few genuinely expected us to win. Considering the wet weather battering we'd gotten by St Kilda in the Qualifying Final, and the drain of the Semi Final against Adelaide, plus our record against Geelong in 2009 (76-point loss in the NAB Cup Grand Final, and a 27-point loss in Round 3 where we were totally outclassed), I don't know why anyone thought we "failed" or "choked" by losing so badly. Considering the way we won the Semi against the Crows, it was arguable if we were even genuinely the fourth best team in 2009.

Honestly if anyone choked last night it was St Kilda... playing well and leading by 33 became so afraid of losing that they stopped trying to win!
I believe this happened in the GF in the last quarter last year too.

Geelong didnt choke, they just played up to where they are at.

St Kilda were entitled to win.

Its a great thing IMO, now if Collingwood are to win the flag,
they will thoroughly deserve it.

All this means now is Collingwood won't make Grand Final and we will have a repeat final from last year. Pies will beat doggies tonight unless it rains then dogs a shot. Pies will be demolished by cats same as last year. Since crows nearly beat pies I don't rate pies any more their game plan won't win flag. Crows show how it's done but crows have to learn to score with forward advances which will come next year I hope. Cats and saints and hawks all will beat pies come prelim or GF.

If St Kilda or Collingwood lost a final after starting hot favourites everyone would be calling it a choke. The Cats made pressure errors when it counted and fell apart. They choked as hot favourites.

Going into last nights final, Geelong, through this period of dominance, had won 8 of their last 9 finals. That is an amazing success rate in finals. They had to drop one somewhere. I am happy that came now rather than in a PF or GF.
