And yet I've got a home and a family and I'm only working one job and not working more than 40 hours a week

Could it be possible that your reality is not the reality but just your situation?
my supposition is that you bought significantly earlier (I bought in 2000 - the land then house built 2004)

You bought earlier than me and my first place wasn't a house

Aged Care is far more overpriced than the real estate market.

If everyone was like me socialism would work. No room for bludgers

Sectors like Aged Care are literally collapsing due to lack of staff.
Well guess what, everyone isn't like you and you have no idea what socialism is.

If everyone was like me socialism would work. No room for bludgers
i see you grasp the concept of socialism about as well as the idea that housing should be affordable

A core tenet of socialist rhetoric is "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need". So when it comes to people who mentally or physically can't work as long as you, do you agree they should have the ability to have a secure roof over their head despite their handicaps?

Socialism is working four jobs to help subsidise landlords property portfolios.

Higher house prices are just the beginning.

If everyone worked hard and didn't want things socialism would work. The main reason it doesn't work is because of bludgers.

If someone has a physical/mental handicap then they should be entitled to housing and care.

you seem to think poor people are lazy

not a very left wing position

you seem to think people should have to work more than 40 hours a week to have a life

not a very left wing position

nice to see you mention do some people should be entitled to housing

what about kids? should kids have to work for housing or should they get access to housing

if some people are entitled to housing why isn't everybody?

we've got enough housing here to actually make homelessness a non issue why aren't we using it for that?

You do realise it’s capitalism that has you working four jobs, dont you?

More people working four jobs does not equal socialism. Repeating it over and over again isnt going to change that.

You don't get out much, do you? But then I guess you wouldn't with your 80 hour work weeks.

How do you propose to stop people wanting things? And work hard for what? For the sake of working hard?

You know people have different pay rates, yeah? So they may not have to work as hard to earn a good living. In fact, capitalism allows people to be extremely wealthy without doing much work, or any work at all, if they own assets that generate lots of revenue. You might say those people worked hard to build those assets or be in a position to acquire them, but that's not necessary either if someone inherits the asset from the ones who actually did the work.

And of course, assets like property have appreciated over time at far beyond the rate of inflation, even if the owner themselves did absolutely nothing to improve the property value. Where's the work in that? Now everyone needs to work harder to get the same thing. Why should we just accept that, when if enough people want to change a system, it can change?

If someone has a physical/mental handicap then they should be entitled to housing and care.
Well, it's good you're not an ogre.

No it doesn't.

What happens to the other 2-4 ?

They get bulldozed?
'round here (Geelong) it seems that way. If a tradesman isn't flipping it you can bet it disappears, gets subdivided and a block of townhouses goes up.

Hooray new dwellings. That's probably great for the "first homebuyers are frozen out of the market" campaign, but doesn't really help families. When the first home buyer's situation in life changes, they're stuck in something unsuitable. Just puts premium prices on kitchen and bathroom renovations.

But there are families that live in townhouses.

Just feels like you're making a lot of assumptions. What if they don't have kids? What if they just have one?
It's the bullshit urban sprawl dream of Australia and America that has so badly ****ed us

People can't handle the idea that it's not the best answer, or that not everyone even wants it

I think you've assumed I'm making assumptions. What I want is housing that is designed to meet the needs of the people who live there.

The construction industry is too busy slapping up profitable "this is what everyone wants" and you end up with places like Waurn Ponds, where on street parking is at a premium (not to mention all the vehicles in people's yards, nature strips and driveways) and every garage is an office space/gym/bedroom.

This attitude is why socialism doesn't work, because too many people are looking for a easy ride.
Having a left wing view doesn't mean bludging and expecting handouts, it means hard work.

Housing is there if you are willing to work for it, if your willing to put the work in then you don't really want it.

Your average fulltime wage won't get you a home in your larger cities/towns. That will never change. Instead of complaining, change your situation by working more

Let me guess.... your employer is also a landlord?

Socialism means getting reward for hard work, and what you're putting forward isn't that. Average full time wages used to get you a house, so what's changed? Is it capitalist greed or socialist sloth?

Socialism does work.
People in Cuba quietly swapping houses and collecting their rations* while Puddy works 80 hour weeks to afford a mortgage on a dog box.

Do you get time off/sick leave/long service etc? Sounds like you're a victim of gig work and the like

*Still working mind, not bludging, not breaking their soul/body either

It did change, can we change it back?
