Fair enough, like I said,, just a thought. Oh and another thought (no sarcasm or any negative intended) isn't the bolded the sort of description often used for Rioli?

It's all about going through every name on the list so it's always worth thinking about all options. That's how you often can find a role for a guy.

Rioli while you are absolutely right he does have that agility and incredible sidestep he also has first class straightline speed. Not Jetta fast but still right up there.

Dwyer has relative pace but he's not going to break the lines with that sidestep to create that space the more impressive aspect when utilised through the midfield. It's something he's used for years in the VFL and it's that real asset that will help him continue to succeed in the seniors if he continues to receive opportunities.

Fair enough, I'm over here in Perth so you get a better look at him than I do. That's one the things I love about this forum, finding out what's actually happening over there, not just relying on TV coverage or the press. Watching last weeks' telecast and seeing him run away from Yarran (?) whilst bouncing the ball poorly made him look damn quick (straight line wise). (again not sarcasm) I know the cameras can be misleading, hence my love of this forum.

The most alarming thing is that Toovey, who is generally regarded our best shut down player has had 7-8 goals kicked on him in 2 weeks...
Benny Johnson, who has been awesome over the years when he has played back pocket, looked all at sea last week. I hope it was just a once off, but boy did he look bad.

This is a serious issue, because all the top teams on the ladder have damaging small forwards who could cut us open in september.

During pre-season i thought marley williams would have been perfect to play that back pocket shut down role. He is aggressive, quick and strong. He needs to work on his kicking, but it appears he is well down the pecking order at the moment.

I think we may have actually taken Harry for granted when he played down back... i know he got touched up a couple of times last year, but it has only really been betts and rioli.

It seems we're in a pretty good position ourselves with regards to our own small fowards, yet we also have Caolan Mooney sitting on our rookie list. I haven't seem much of him in the VFL, but I'd like to see him moulded into a fast small backline stopper. Imagine having his speed available to put on the likes Jetta, Garlett, Rioli, etc. From what I've heard he'd out sprint anyone and it would be a somewhat revolutionary move to create extremely fast back pocket player which the way the game is going I think every team needs now. Much easier to teach an Irishman to play defense rather than attack too I reckon.

There are always going to be a small minority who hold 'interesting' opinions. Some of these include Maxwell isn't best 21, Ball is cooked, the succession plan was a failure and my all time favourite, Brad Dick will play for us again.

You forgot to include my theory that Leon Davis is coming home to the Pies next year.
