Great episode

Next week we meet David thats going to be a good one

Troy is playing Davids sidekick in next weeks ep. I cant wait. I have a feeling he will be the one in Joels chair when he says he will pop his god damm knee off.

Ashley is going to be in the show at some point too. I bet she ends up as Ellie's mother in a flashback.

Just another banger of an episode.

The production on this show is utterly amazing. I love the intimacy of this weeks episode with the set design compared to last weeks grandiose sprawling cinematography. Hope these guys are ready to win some awards.

Dunno how the hell they're going to wrap this up in two episodes, but hey, they've done pretty bloody well so far.

It's pretty good. I don't know why some people are completely losing their minds for it though.

Knowing what is going to happen in every episode before it starts doesn't help.
because, and this may be hard to believe, there are people who haven't played the game and are experiencing this story and these characters for the first time and are as astonished and as entertained by the quality as gamers were when the game came out.

think about how gamers actually felt when this game came out. it was a landmark in storytelling, character development, and thematic execution never seen before in video games. Obviously TV has a richer storytelling history, but this particular story is still an outstanding one in any medium and that's why people who have never experienced it before are 'losing their minds' for it

it also helps that the show is doing the game justice, which in turn makes gamers happy that they get to relive this story again as if for the first time.

anyway, spectacular episode. As good as ep3 was (and ****ing LOL who thinks that one is 'filler'. If you do then you don't know what filler is, it's as simple as that), I personally think the last two have been my favourites and have had the best performances and have really delved deep into the psyche of the two main characters more than any other
with Joel's realisation that he's starting to see Ellie as a daughter in the previous one and Ellie's real fear of being left alone, and the genesis of that fear, in tonight's ep

I’ve never played the game, so from a fresh eyes view it’s great.
It’s really interesting that 6 or so episodes in and 2 of them have really been about world building and depth of characters, without having much of a say on overall narrative.
Fascinating
can't get into too many details because it relates to spoilers about how the season will end, but there are some really interesting video essays on YouTube about how both TLOU games are fantastic examples of a story that blurs the line between plot and storytelling. essentially, many of the characters' decisions and their associated development deliberately undermines what is actually happening in the plot and so subverts your expectations about what 'should' or will happen. I'm doing a terrible job of explaining this and the videos are far better at it, but it's a really interesting part of the conversation around the games, and it's playing out in the show too. Part 2 in particular is all about subverting traditional storytelling expectations.

I said it on here after ep3, but a story is so much more than the peaks and valleys that make up the plot itself. Without thematic development or complex characters that make decisions that influence said plot, it's just a bunch of things that happen

For non-gamers, this episode covered the games DLC which was the same title as this episode (“Left Behind”).

As a non-gamer, thanks for this information... Of course, it would make much more sense if you didn't use a gaming abbreviation! ;)

I am sorry mate! I hope you enjoyed yesterdays episode and the rest of the season.

Guess I'm in the minority but that just felt a rinse and repeat of Ep 3. Which in and of itself is fine but I'm not sure you need 2 of those eps in a 9 ep season.

Cinematography is outstanding but just found it really slow and could see what was coming a mile off (and I haven't played the game).

While Episode 3 was an original story (with characters from the game, just fleshed out a lot more), yesterday’s episode was part of the game so it was going to happen with or without Episode 3.

Was that because Ellie had already told this story in a previous episode? :p

I thought it was great, good fleshing out of her character and drawing parallels between her loss and the injury Joel suffered.

It's clear there isn't enough plot to sustain 9 episodes so instead it's a character study each week which is still just as enjoyable.

Also chuckled at Ellie having a walkman after the discussion a month ago with old mate who was skeptical of her knowing how to use a tape.

Maybe, you're giving my memory way too much credit, I didn't remember that at all haha.

A character study can be enjoyable but like I said, two of them in a 9 episode run feels too much for me. Make it 6 eps but have it jam packed.

Yeah she mentioned going into a shopping centre as where she got bitten, I think she also alluded to someone getting killed but can't quite remember.

It's been more than two hasn't it? Last episode with the deaf kid was another.

Kind of but that was progressing the story still. The other two really haven't progressed the story much at all.
