This year's Winter Village is a ski chalet:

Not sure how I feel about this one. Like last year's it looks a bit meh in terms of its seasonality, and Lego have done plenty of smiliar chalet sets recently. I'll probably still get to keep the set complete, but it does look like they're running out of ideas, which I guess is understandable.

Also released this week is one of the most fun sets of the year:

This'll look great in the Botanical collection :p

Need piranha plant. How fun.

Building the Tribute to Lego House set, which is five very clever microbuilds of the original Lego House exclusive sets (four of which I've managed to acquire from friends and contacts who've been there 👍). Would love to get all of them but of course they're very expensive on the after market.

Trip to Kmart yesterday for some cheap Chinese made tat.

Picked up this little gift for me whilst I was there. I do have a medium level addiction to these Speed models it seems.

Not bad. Enough pieces to occupy the hands and calm the mind.

Over reliance on stickers which is typical for this series, although this model has a mix of printed parts and stickers.
The front and rear end look good. Very noticeably R34 Skyline.

Geez I wish I could shake this lurgy. Over did it yesterday I think and feel like I've gone backwards a couple of days. Hence the lazy day kit making today.

Sorry to hear you are unwell. Lego is a great way to rest and recuperate :thumbsu:

For someone who's not into cars at all I must confess I have rather more Lego ones than you might expect. Speed Champions make great pocket money sets - as you say they are realistic to prototype and have neat building techniques belying their price point.

Certified stores selling Titanic + Eiffel Tower as a $1500 bundle.

Another case of where Lego thinks I live vs where I actually live.

I'm sure Titanic would be a really fun build.

But I think if I were going to buy it, I'd want to get a fish tank and display broken into 2 pieces, possibly with a feature of Rose kicking Jack's povvo ass away from from the floating door.

But then I think "wow, that's really tacky, even if it was 100 years ago."

And where am I going to store a metre wide fish tank full of water/lego Titanic anyway?

The TC headstone in the set refers to Tiago Caterino, a popular Lego designer who no longer works there (he is now a Lego artist and also runs a YouTube review channel). His sets include the Gingerbread House and Ship in a Bottle.

The tile also appears in Titanic, as he was an early proponent of that set.

Despite the macabre nature of the tribute, he is very much still alive ;).

I have started "The Mighty Bowser"

One internet source said it should take 4 hours if you're an expert, but if you hit various issues (which people have had) it might take 7+ hours.

I'm currently tracking at 1 hour per bag :( :p - 5 completed so far.

First 4 bags are related to the platform Bowser stands on. Bag 5, the beginning of Bowser himself.

I've hit one (annoying) snag of sorts with the platform, the fire torches that stick on both ends, one (the right one) lines up perfectly, the left doesn't ? :( I'll probably have to to undo it to see if I've royally stuffed it up down the bottom. It doesn't look misaligned but it probably is, since the torch for the right end fits straight away. The left takes a bit of effort to connect :-/

I'm taking that as a compliment. I love my floor tiles. The cat does in Summer too.

It's the teryline on the windows that made me notice, my mum never saw a window she didn't want teryline on!

What a great choice! I couldn't stretch to Bowser but he does look epic.

Don't pay any attention to the "build times" on youtubes and the like, they're completely unrealistic. I build quite a lot of Technic and my construction time is about double that of my favourite reviewer. And that's not including mistakes ;).

I haven't built Bowser but the issue you describe does sound like the base pieces may be mis-aligned a little. Someone here who has built him may be able to help.

Yeah, forget published construction times and just enjoy the journey of the build. Take a break when you feel yourself rushing. (I need to follow my own advice :) )

I've had Bowser for a while, just haven't had the time to build the set. I knew I wasn't going to finish it today but I wanted to make a start on a public holiday and maybe (fingers crossed) get most of it done over the weekend. The 2000+ pieces on the box didn't scare me................ until I opened it up and unpacked bag after bag after bag after bag lol.

I know I was teased a bit pages ago, but I am prone to silly errors at times even when it's clearly labelled in the manual (and even cross referenced with build videos on youtube). It's mostly down to rushing through steps when I should pace myself better, will never forget the Batmobile progressing to the point where I built one side correctly, but the otherside was lobsided - continued on with the build until the mistake was too obvious to ignore so undid everything and started from scratch.

EDIT

Well I've put it back together and carefully measured it correctly, the studs match the illustration's. While the left torch sits much better than it did - it's still delicate. You can touch the right one with some force and it won't detach, but have to be more gentle with the left.

Upside was that it took less than 2 hours to get through 4 bags worth of bricks this time, compared to just over 4 in my last run thorugh :p

Interesting. Spending GF afternoon building Lego, given my club has been shackled to a coach who will never get us playing in one.

Have the Creator Space Coaster, which conceptually is very like the previous Pirate one. What it has, that I've never seen before, is multiple bags with different numbers in the same build step (it starts off calling for bags 1&2, for example). Has anyone seen this in other sets? Why don't they just label all of those bags #1?

Bowser Update -

Progressed through another 8ish bags, things going fairly decently, until the most recent bag where I was building the beginning of Bowsers head............................. back to front from the body

Have since corrected the mistake but that was a bit of a stuff up :p
