Has anyone bought from Might Ape before? They have a couple of things that are sold out everywhere else, I'm wondering whether that's a bad sign or not.

Their Australian site has a woeful trustpilot score, with hardly any recent ratings; their NZ site has an incredible trustpilot score with a heap of recent ratings.

A family member has, a little while ago. They were happy with the service. Perhaps try it with a small purchase first, see how it goes. The negative reviews seem to be largely down to communication issues, and they aren't alone there.

I came back the Shadow Box this weekend after hearing that it was due to retire. It's out of stock everywhere, and showing it's going to be grossly expensive if Lego don't get more stock. Can't even complain about scalpers, I was just indecisive, hoping it'd come down in price :(

Keen on some advice...

I've been sorting through all my boxed lego tonight... I've become an accidental investor, about 4-5 things that I bought when they were good prices but I never built are now retired and just taking up space...

Anyway, about a year ago I bought the The Friends Apartments (10292) on clearance for about $190, cos it had a destroyed box. All the bags appear in tact - what's missing is the instructions, but they appear fairly readily available from Bricklink.

Is the set still worth money with a beat up box and replacement instructions? It should be worth double what I paid for it, and I don't ever see myself committing space to it in my current space... but does the shitty box make them worth heaps less? (I did look on Bricklink for a box, but to get a box this size shipped here is going to be too hard.)

Desirable sets have value in MISB, complete, used and incomplete states, as the parts may be unique or hard to find. Obviously the better the condition, the better the price, but many buyers may only want the set for certain parts, or to part out and sell themselves.

My advice would be to check bricklink for the current prices and recent average sale prices. You may find (as with 10292) that the difference between new and used prices isn't huge - I would suggest that a new set without box and instructions is probably around the used price, as it's unlikely that a collector would be the purchaser, so the market may be smaller. Average sale for the set new is about $400 and used $280.

The Batcave?

I'm slowly building it. I hope you can get your hands on it, it's awesome.

I thought it would be frustrating because it's basically all shades of grey and I thought I'd get pieces mixed up, but each individual bag is quite small which helps with that.

It's been quite fun to build. I'm on holidays now so I'm hoping I can finish it off this week, before I start the Home Alone house, which I want to finish by Christmas.

I despise Kmart. I ordered the Mars Rover yesterday, I thought it might be a fun build for 99 bucks.

I just got Kmarts's traditional cancellation + refund notification. The cheeky pricks still have it listed on their website. (They also have the Spiderman Art listed as in stock, after it was out of stock yesterday. I'm fairly sure the same thing would happen if I tried to order it. Not that I really have anywhere to put it, it's a bit overstated for art that I'd display.)

The Yellow Lego Truck set was exclusive to K Mart and I was dreading the process, but it did actually arrive, so I can confirm they do, at least occasionally, have Lego in stock. I only order from them when desperate, as my experience generally mirrors yours. There is also a physical store quite close by, but it basically only ever has empty shelves in the Lego department. I have no idea how they stay in business.

Weirdly Target (same parent company) generally does an OK job, and has stock when they say they do. Not sure why they can't both use the same system. Has this set for $117 which is at least something of a discount.

It's an interesting set to build, but isn't really much of a display piece. I have it in my Lego space display, but if I wasn't a completionist in that genre I probably wouldn't have bought it.

You probably just talked me out of it! I probably wouldn't have done it anyway, it's not a set I know a lot about, it was one of those that only caught my interest when it hit that sub $100 mark.

Next year is looking expensive already.

Although I think I'm going to have to make some hard choices with the F1 sets. I'd be happy to have them all, but I don't have the space to display them.

Of the 4 technic models released/announced to date, I'm not even sure I can not display anything, they're the main 4 cars that you'd want.

I'd kill for the Ferrari

I'll probably just get the mini version
