Let's bust out the abacus on this one-
in any given year maybe ten of a team's matches are against a side that ultimately makes the eight.
maximum of about 11 wins- beat up on the non contenders like port does and you may just do it.

In 2015 and 2016 12 wins and % gets you in.

in 2013 and 2014 it's 11 wins and %

Port are able to smash lower ranked teams, so there's the %. can they rack up victories against all non-finalists this year? I think 11 wins will do it.
