Wait and see how it goes at Villa first... Gerrard's stock still seems pretty high given what he achieved in the league last season (and his Europa League record has been exceptional, too), but Rangers have really struggled to get going this season with out of form players, lacking cohesion, struggling to break teams down and just generally defensively awful - I wouldn't go by what the current table shows. The Scottish league can be a bit more forgiving if a club like Rangers aren't playing too well, but he won't have that luxury in the EPL. I'm sure Villa are looking at the bigger picture overall and maybe his ideas and tactics might transition well into Villa as a club, I guess they haven't put too much thought into how they think Gerrard has gone so far this season... Having said that, I'm gutted he is leaving, and during another crucial season as well...
Was about to write similar. Gerrard's stocks are at an all time high after stopping Celtic's ten in a row. With this season not looking so easy for him it's a smart move to take up a bigger opportunity while he can.

His cup and European record leaves a bit to be desired though.

Not sure what John Terry's coaching plan is but thought he could have been a strong option given his experience there.

Just can’t see how Gerrard is a better option than Smith. Big part of Rangers success last season was Celtic self destructed.

Bailly and Ings have missed some through injuries, Buendia probably not suited to central role but defence is leaking. Very tough job

Celtic weren't at their best last season but rangers went undefeated in the league, winning 32 of 38 games while only conceding 13 goals. That's a seriously impressive campaign even for Scottish football.

I think it's worth a punt for both parties.

Reckon a big part of Rangers' success was going undefeated. Massively impressive.

Gerrrard spotted in London.
Was for a friend's birthday apparently.

That said, very similar to Rodgers leaving Celtic for Leicester this really, probably what Gerrard is thinking also, mid table team with the potential to get into the top 6 down the line perhaps if all goes well.

If he does well, then he's probably the favourite to take over from Klopp eventually I'd imagine.

Don't see the rush for Liverpool to push Klopp out the door (unless he wants to walk away himself).

He is a Scouser Managerial Legend and has the chance to join the likes of Shankley as a LFC Immortal if he hangs around for at least another 10 years or so.

Reckon he doesn't need that long, nor does he seem likely to stay that long.

I agree that his domestic cup record is awful, but what he achieved in Europa League was amazing in my opinion. Not just a one-off season 3 years back getting us into the group stage (which every Rangers fan would've taken if offered before the start of qualifying), but he even improved on that by getting us into the Round of 16 the last two seasons... But I guess you could say losing to Malmo in the UCL qualifier this season was highly disappointing. We fell asleep for 5 minutes in each leg and Malmo punished us with all 4 of their goals in that 10 minutes (2 in each leg); our season has just never recovered...

Celtic did struggle, but Rangers had 102 points in the league going undefeated... only the 2nd time 100+ has happened in Scotland (after Celtic a few years back) I think last season was way more about how well Rangers did than how bad Celtic were. Gerrard had us playing very well.

Oh good, even Aston Villa have a better manager than United (although they didn't even need to sack Dean Smith to have that).

Haha, bit early for that - but who am I to argue? ;)

Overall, I'm skeptical on how he will go at Villa given how Rangers have performed this season.... but then again, to me, players like Goldson, Barisic, and Morelos seem like they have long given up after they weren't granted moves in the summer. Villa players will be bouyed by Gerrard's arrival and looking to impress for spots... so that alone will make a big difference.

Strong rumours linking us with Van Bronckhorst to replace Gerrard. I'd be pretty happy with that.

Interesting in Howe’s presser he touched on the Celtic interest and said it was too big a job to take on his own, meaning not having his own staff and working with assistants already there. Yet Ange did and has worked with those same assistants. Plus most of his signings have so far been quite good.

Ange is a better coach than Howe
