Do we know where the tickets went ?
Can’t find the exact numbers anywhere except 17’000 for each competing club.

I’ve always believed 20’000 mcc and 20’000 AFL members but I could be wrong on that

Its the AFL not VFL.

The number 1 national sport administered by a national sporting body.

The next contract will need to be an open tender or it is blatantly anticompetitive. You do understand that dont you?

I know sharing is a hard concept for children to comprehend and accept but adults?

This is not the AFL ... its the VFL with friends.

Always has been.

Its a very simple concept & transparent. If you arent there PF time ... sayonara flag.
Does H&A ranking have any bearing on semi final match-ups, the answer is no. The higher ranked H&A doesn't play the lowest.

In PFs again H&A ranking means nothing.

Yet you somehow think H&A ranking then magically comes back into play for the GF.

According to your logic, who deserved to host the 2006 AFL Grand Final?

The comments about the fairness of playing finals at the MCG because it's a greater advantage for Melbourne based teams rings slightly hollow for me, as my teams home ground is not the MCG, and for some reason the AFL has deliberately decided we play very few games a year there, usually only 1 or 2 over the last decade, but it becomes our home ground in finals by default. In fact, I remember one occasion we played (maybe) Sydney in a final there and they had played quite a few games more that year at the venue than we had.

On topic, I don't really have an issue with Grand Finals not being played every year at the MCG, but it is truly all about money and corporates taking up seats, it used to be the Prelims were the peoples finals, but even that isn't necessarily the case any more. My team isn't in Grand Finals regularly, but for the 4 we've played in my lifetime I had zero chance of getting a ticket even though I've been a full member for all but the earliest of those.

The MCG is the biggest stadium and is run by the all powerful, politically connected MCC, so it gets the game by default, fair or otherwise. Don't forget the VFL tried to build an alternative venue it could own and play big games at, and how that failed because of politics. The debate is pointless unless a 150,000+ seat stadium owned by the Governor General drops out of the sky.

The Federal Parliament once met in Melbourne.

Magic, there is a set order, its transparent, its up to you where you finish, aka merit.

Collingwood and Richmond should receive the same treatment that Geelong does in being forced to play several of their 'home' games in Docklands against their will. In fact I'd go as far as to say that it is nonsensical for Melbourne (Geelong is not in Melbourne) teams to have a designated 'home' ground as both Docklands and the MCG should be considered as such and access to the MCG shared equally as much as possible.

I understand that it makes sense for clubs with bigger fan bases to get more games at the MCG which has the bigger capacity but the current disparity to that access is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.
?? Collingwood and Richmond are forced to play home games at Etihad/Marvel.

Ever since the AFL opened Etihad, Collingwood played between 4 and 2 home games there. Since GWS came in, we have played 2 home games at marvel every year, one against a Marvel tenant and one against a non-vic team.

Geelong haven't played a home game at Marvel since they finished stadium upgrade, what back in 2016.

Do some research before pushing blatant lies.

A club like Essendon who is primarily an Etihad tenant, has been shafted. They get no advantage anywhere really. They play MCG tenants at the G, Marvel tenants at Marvel and the non-vic sides are more familiar with Marvel now too.
Exactly same with Carlton. These clubs should get a genuine homeground again in the future and find some way to build an Optus Stadium type size ground in North Eastern suburbs and share it as a homeground so when play other Vic based sides when get a genuine homeground advantage and same when we play clubs from other states we play them at grounds we will get same type of homeground advantage they get at theirs. Games at Marvel are no advantage of note as so many clubs it like a home away from home.

Reasons for a MCG grand final
1. It's Tradition
2. Biggest ground
3. More money

1. In 1984 the VFL at the time wanted to increase Waverley to 100000 and Play all grand finals there. Move was blocked by the Victorian Government

2. Give you that one. In saying that the MCC shouldn't be included.

3. Higher ticket prices, and more funding from other states could make more money.

Yep, Melbourne ground rationalisation has hurt Melbourne clubs.

Hawthorn have flourished by setting up a home away from home in Tassie. The myth that an hour flight and sleeping in a hotel is a disadvantage hasn't impacted the Hawks.

Was much better watching the Pies take on teams at Vic Park, especially non-vic teams, when you had 25k Pies crammed in like sardines. Much better atmosphere compared to 35k at a 2/3 empty MCG.

Dont forget travel.

Should always be played at the MCG on the proviso that the competing teams get 30k tickets each minimum and that all teams play a minimum number of games there each year (3 would be ideal)

In 2006 who was the "highest ranked" team that qualified for the GF?

Do you base it off H&A ranking, and thus it becomes the minor premier?

Or do finals results have any influence, and the team that beat the minor premier became the higher ranked team?

Why can't you answer?
Simple- the highest ranked team in the GF after finals.
Sydney.

Went to first Eagles game at Vic Park, great day, we lost but it was one of those days. We were treated well , bit like a curiousity, hey we knew the rules.
When I went past in the train, I see what was, not what is..

Alright, I should have said 'did' instead. That still doesn't change the fact that interstate and small Vic clubs like the Bulldogs who play like just 2/3 MCG games a year if they're lucky, are not shafted and shouldn't get more access to the 'G than what they already do.

IMO no Melbourne club should be entitled to the 'G being their 'home' ground, and expect most of their home games to be played there at the expense of other Melbourne and interstate clubs.

The reality is that both Docklands and the MCG should be regarded (home grounds) as such and access to the 'G be distributed equally (besides taking into consideration commercial reasons such as the larger crowds that bigger clubs can provide) as much as possible between them.
